Great video. I own a 2006 9-3 2.8 liter Aero convertible. I replaced the battery with a new GM AGM battery when I purchased the car three years ago. Soon after the battery replacement, I noticed the car kept having strange intermittent and unpredictable electrical problems such as CIM module faults, cruise control failures, headlight malfunctions, power side mirror problems, trip odometer reset button would not function, even rough transmission shifting. Two weeks ago the battery died and I decide to replace it with an OEM lead acid battery of the exact amperage rating as listed in the owners manual. The first test drive after the battery replacement was shocking. Everything that was malfunctioning before, now worked beautifully! I could not believe the difference the correct battery could make. It was like a brand new car. Even the transmission shifting was as smooth as glass. The battery that failed was a GM battery (garbage) and the new battery was an Interstate brand battery. The 9-3 seems to hate anything General Motors and I don't blame it one bit. I learned my lesson, when replacing parts, stick to the SAAB specifications. Cheers.

Yes agree! Because of high under-bonnet temps battery’s on my 2.0 Aero 282bhp goes through batteries every 3 years or so - use next up output battery ( Exide ) excellent batteries

Excellent video - informative and thorough. A bit of nostalgia for me. Although it's close to two years since I traded in my 08 9-3 SC I still dearly miss SAAB. 27 years of driving SAAB cars changes a person (especially when the car saves you from life threatening injuries in an accident). Thank you and god Jul! (BTW loved the Christmas candles) :)

Other problems worth noting is the 2007 2.0 engine has a high incidence of failed intake valves. Rear tail light lenses break apart from the housings, windshield wiper motor ground causes wiper malfunction, T8 ECU failure due to heat.

Since 1980 I've always had Saabs. I purchased a 12 month old a 2011 9-3 Ttdi2. I was the proud owner of this car for 9 years and was a difficult decision to let it go. It was a beautiful looking car and never let me down. Personally it became difficult to drive with a heavy clutch and the pedals being too close together. The only car that attracted my attention was a 9-5 ng . This to me is Saabs most sexiest model it just oozes class. I'm now the owner of a low mileage 9-5 ng Tid auto vector. Is it as good as the 93? My instinct says no. The model feels as though it was rushed through development but the designers have designed into the model the spirit of Saab and it feels that once again I'm sat in the 99/900

    Nice video :)
1.8i was not available from the beginning, but a bit later. Also 2.2 diesel got left out :-P
Apart from CIM, also key reader (ISM I believe) may get wrong. Often also door locks go bad, and interior fan, which is damaged by water over the time, that's entering the car via holes in cabin filter housing. Rear lights connectors are also one nightmare sometimes :-/ but that's mostly it, when it comes for electronics, apart from Trionic 8 ECU that suffers from heat.

Have a 2005 9.3 Aero convertible - have over last six years refurbished it - lucky 🍀 as has no rust - when I bought it took liners out and treated with Waxoyl
Car has Maptune 3 inch exhaust , Bilstein shocks , black diamond drilled and grooved disks
Over six years car needed new clutch at 98k , new timing chains at 102 k ( did water pump at same time )
Problems since ownership - ABS pump - got used £15, air con compressor £200, front seat belt £150
Car does about 25 mpg - very stylish and safe
Parts very cheap - front brake hoses £20 each , calliper £50
Brilliant car ! More reliable that Toyota Avensis I have - parts very easy to get

    • @guitarlover302
      @guitarlover302 Рік тому +1

@@TechCars Thank you for reply - get lots of parts from UK company Parts for Saabs who have excellent alternatives to original Saab parts sourced in Sweden 🇸🇪
Important to find a Saab specialist who knows these cars - lucky to have in UK near me RTJ Autos approved Saab centre - many obscure faults can only be solved by people who work on Saabs every day - Saab specialist will also have access to Tec 2
I religiously change oil every six months regardless of mileage - change coolant every three years , brake fluid every two , gearbox oil every 50 k - on Aero drop links seem to need replacing every six months or so ? Had problem with rough idle on starting - surging and dying down - fault code showed throttle body - still persisted after change - the ‘ Cobra’ pipe that runs from turbo to air filter has concertina type folds - one had split - ( identified by smoke test )
The 9.3 is immensely strong and if fitted with top mount brace bar in convertible rattle free
Don’t be tempted to use silicone type protectants on roof - over time stiffens fabric and wrecks rams - found Autoglym soft top cleaner and protector excellent
Very good cars let down by some truly dreadful GM plastics in interior - buttons wear dreadfully - had my instrument panel carbon wrapped - same as door pulls and other interior panels - body wise standing up very well compared to other 05 cars who are seeing paint blistering - my advise is to buy best you can afford with full service history - make sure right fluids are used - transmission is specialist fluid as is power steering - good luck 🤞

I can confirm that there is slight difference in fuel consumption between the turbox and the TiD (150 HP).
I commute to work 5 days a week, 210 km a day in total. No highways.
Turbox needs to visit the fuel pump twice a week.
And that with a egg under the pedal. I will make a try to visit the fuel pump 3 times in a week. 😁
The TiD only visits the gasstation once a week.
The TiD is no fun, as the turbox.
Both are SportCombi, black and with manual gearbox.
