We bought this shed at the beginning of July. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxe81Bz076USDt6sYU1rDcNa2LwCIKADgB It’s built now and just needs painting. The instructions were clear and concise. All the parts were there and in excellent condition.

The first half of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

Part of the beauty of this video is you showed all the steps in enough detail so a novice could understand, you didn't have unnecessary talk or background noise and you made it fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your talents.

Came back to say I followed this video and made my own concrete slab, and it came out great. I have to say this was one of the most physically demanding jobs I have ever done. Each bag of cement is crazy heavy. But totally worth it!

I would have boxed out the pipework, then back fill with gravel level with the cement once it was dry. Only because I've had many issues with replacing old pipes in the house I own. It's easier to scoop gravel then break concrete.

  • @CougarLand
    @CougarLand 8 років тому +1

Did you water that gravel just before you put the concrete on? I'm not sure what the purpose of the tapcon screws are because they won't be enough to hold it to the other structure, and with just some gravel underneath, you want that thing to be able to heave up and down anyway from frost without breaking.

Nice work but those blue tapcons don't serve any purpose. As soon as the slab shifts even just a little they'll snap. Obviously you won't notice it but there's no point screwing those into the existing foundation. If you really need to tie the concrete slab to an existing foundation then it requires more than just tapcon screws.

I believe Jim was referring to the old slab as in the foundation he put the blue Tapcom screws into....not thebricks... and as far as a finish the man should have edged the slab while the concrete was still green.. also a broomed finish would have been better than no rounded edges and an in-uniformed broomed brush finish....

      The video is good
      The finish is shit
And the tapcons and lack of expansion are confusing
Although the pad will serve it's purpose he really should have edged it. As someone could hurt themselves on that sharp edge especially considering the heigth of the sod he laid there.
And I doubt he's going the grind down the edge

Excellent video, not to long, very informative, no music, narrative, or excessive kids or pets.

I first thought, "He messed up. The concrete should not be that high, it will rot the siding." Then I read in the description that the new concrete is the foundation for a planned extension to the building. Now I feel better. By the way, many places that sell bagged concrete mix also rent concrete mixers. Nice job, as always. Cheers.

What's with the adding screws to the other foundation. Is it an anchor point to prevent settling?

    • @pogiguy0533

It is suppose to keep it from settling down from the foundation. However, most would recommend using rebar as it is a thicker and will not snap off as these blue screws will probably do. The weight of the concrete will be way to much on them.

I usually dump it over the forms when i hand-mix. Perhaps he didn't want to splash on the building. I usually hang plastic sheeting to keep walls from getting back-splashed.
