What a great tour of Necker Island! And who doesn't love a Lemur? So damn cute. Interesting about the clog. I was doing a press sea trial in Miami this year on a Sunseeker 65 and we had the same issue. The seaweed kept clogging the filter and our captain had to clear it multiple times each day.
In order for you to get a piece that big stuck in the strainer, you most most likely have the intake thru hull without its clam shell strainer! Install the clam shell over the thru hull. Also what you need is a Victron inverter system with solar!
Hi Mr. Carter, just a little nugget from a long timer, its a good idea to keep a small bucket or container for when you pull the genny or engine raw water strainer to clean it. Put the strainer in the container immediately to avoid salt water dripping on anything. It may not seem like a lot, but over time it will cause corrosion. Thank you for the videos, I really enjoy them. My wife and I are also big fans of The Voice. Love your boat!!
Nice WS win by the Rangers. Sad for the Astros but the Rangers were pretty darn strong. How about a Y at the seacock and a Y at the strainer? ON/OFF valves at the seacock and when one clogs you can turn on the other line until clear. That’ll get the air conditioner going sooner. Good luck. Great video.
We can’t get enough of the Wandering Hillbilly. Taking Sea Dream in December to our fav islands. Jost, Barths, Anguilla, Norman. Would love to thank u in person if you are around!!
Another great vid Captain 👍 What's also becoming apparent to me is that as well as the amazing scenery and places in the BVI you portray so well, these videos are also about the people we are introduced too; you as an ever present "mein host", looking after both ship and people, but also your interesting guests, we come to know too. Kudos! Hope Jofre got back okay, he's a lej! 👏
Nice tour of Necker! I loved the episode of Iconoclasts with Desmond Tutu visiting Branson there. He was hopping up and down in one of the pools (Tutu) giggling and saying “you are rich!”
Great statement. It doesn't matter what size boat you have. As long as you get on it and enjoy it with family and friends. It is my happy place. And I like to share it. A boat is a continuous learning curve. I don't care how big, how new or old. They always have something going wrong. I get nervous when every system is working. I've had a generator issue. Kept cutting off after 20 minutes. Check sea cocks and through hulls. Turned out to be a loose reservoir tank for the antifreeze. and a loose cap. over heat and shut off. Pain for a couple days then a 5 min fix after found the problem. All part of the fun. Right? Cheers, stay cool and friendly.
The same exact thing happened to us while Chartering a Lagoon 50 three years ago. The sea weed situation continues to get bigger and longer every year. There has to be a better design for the water pick-up to reduce the change of sea weed clogging. In our case the sea weed was compressed in the tube that went from the thru- hull to the filtering system. Great video, this will help many cruisers know what to do and not have to wait for help to arrive to get their generator running . Love your videos!!1
Thank you! Hope we’ve fixed it. Thanks for watching

Many thanks! , just got back from a week in the the islands. Could not have had a better week thanks to you, MarineMax and Aquila 443. With the exception of a late night ride white knuckles ride to Coco Maya it could not have been better. Thanks to you. Hope to see you on the water some day. The van Deventers.
Great video as usual - fantastic to see you having fun - check out the emailed picture of the 4 foot of plastic that got sucked up our generator seacock in Langkawi - had to put on the scuba gear…..I’m also going to comment on your fenders mate - leave em down until you’re clear of the marina - they come in handy if “something” happens and you lose power, steerage or some nutter bangs you in close quarter manoeuvring….Have fun buddy, Cheers Swanny
Okay, now you’re starting to piss me off! Sorry for my brief moment of jealousy! Another great video and thank you. We just booked for the first three weeks of June…number 15 but who’s counting. Hope to see you there! Mark
Alan, a few weeks back we dropped by on your boat when you were just about to take your buddies out. We had just completed a charter week on an Aquila 44 and we encountered the same seaweed problem. Firstly, MarineMax instructed us to clean that cooling water filter daily and secondly, the filter, or strainer, on that 44 was/is really big. Way larger and thicker than the one on your boat. That should be an easy fix, though.
Get a south bay strainer on the bottom. That stuff will never make it to the strainer in the engine room. In fact you can take it out. Second is get a heat gun. Makes taking the hose off and back on super easy. Although you might need an inverter to use it. Good luck!
After 35 years boating (this has nothing to do with your clogged strainer), I always take the back panel off of the generator to allow better air flow.
Another Great video! My crew and I will be there next month on the: A Yachta Fun ! for another No Fear of Missing Out Adventure!! . Hope to run into you at some point!!🛥
That intake hose looks no bigger than a garden hose. With all that room in the engine bay, you would think Aquila would put a bigger strainer and larger intake hose to go with it
Allan What brand and size is your catamaran dinghy? I have been looking for one just like it and haven't been able to find one anywhere. I would appreciate your help more than you know.
Subscriber with insurance question . Who is your insurance with? We are traveling with our new boat to the US Virgin Islands and have a slip there. I’m curious to know any advice that you would give?
I don't understand why boats don't have closed cooling systems on their engines and generators. My car, and Truck does, as does my emergency generator at my cottage. Always dealing with filters, strainers, sea cocks etc.
@@thewanderinghillbilly My wife and I loved your channel. Your down to earth manner, humor. She died 2 weeks ago from heart attack at work. My dear friend...my heart goes out to you and your family. The term "life is short" is real to you...I'm so sorry for that. Get your family together and realize that dream for her... I wont use names...won't say Toronto...just tell your story. I completely understand if not. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.
Thank you for taking all of us along Alan. Cheers
"A whole different level of this doesn't suck". I love it.
Completely different level!
Fish food golf balls...why didn't I think of that one? Another great video, thanks for taking us with you!
Thanks for watching!
Congratulations on the World Series
ThBks!
I hope Aquila watches your videos to fix all the problems.
Trust me…they do!
Alan, it’s so great you can fix and maintain so much on your boat! And btw that private island looked amazing!

Completely agree. On it
As always a great video of the BVI. And again be safe and have fun in life.
Thanks, will do!
I didn’t care if the Rangers won, Sir . But Your team beat the Astros , so I was definitely HAPPY ! Congratulations also ! ! !
Right?!?!? Thanks for watching
Like always refreshing videos. Thanks for sharing
Glad you like them!
Alan you have a good story telling voice Always great video thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it

Great video! Jelly over you going to Necker! Would love to see that some day. Congrats on all of your accomplishments of late! 🎉❤😂
Thanks so much!! And thanks for watching
Congrats on your Rangers btw!
Thanks!
You can get a flusher cap for that strainer and hook your hose to it to backflush it. You can use this same cap to flush your ACs out.
Thank you!
Always enjoy your videos! Can’t wait to return to the BVI’s

That is correct. The experience of boating is only half about the location. The other half is friendship. Thanks for noticing!
Awesome video again!
Thanks again!

Thanks swanny! Plastic?!? Crazy
Is there no screen on the water side of the through hull to block a lot of that?
Keep living the Dream! ❤
Thank you!

Pro tip buy a spare basket for your sea strainer so you can swap it out and clean the other later
Nice tip!
Wow Necker Island is gorgeous! Dare I ask how you get a VIP tour? Hopefully Aquila comes up with a better solution for you. Congrats to the Rangers!
Got the invite thru personal friends. Very special. Thanks for watching

Hells yes!

Thanks for stopping by! And yes, getting it enlarged
Come visit us in Grand Cayman sometime.
Aquila really needs to rework those intakes by molded in sea chests and 2" hose diameter. They also should have a reverse flush capability.
Agree! Love your name!!!
Get a south bay strainer on the bottom. That stuff will never make it to the strainer in the engine room. In fact you can take it out. Second is get a heat gun. Makes taking the hose off and back on super easy. Although you might need an inverter to use it.

Can you elaborate please?
After 35 years boating (this has nothing to do with your clogged strainer), I always take the back panel off of the generator to allow better air flow.
HVe been thinking about that. Sounds good
I have to say I think your bracelets are great is there a particular significance to each one?
Not really. I have my kids names on one and the wife. The other are just decorative. Lol. Thanks for watching

Love your videos, do you have a strainer on the outside of the gen. Intake thru-hull? That would solve the seaweed issue.
I agree. Thanks for watching
Are you wearing a wrist band for nausea? If so, I'd love your opinion. Just bought our first boat and was planning to purchase a couple bands. Cheers!
Fortunately I don’t get seasick. But I’d not think many get sick in the BVI. Your captain should look after you in that regard. Thanks for watching
That intake hose looks no bigger than a garden hose. With all that room in the engine bay, you would think Aquila would put a bigger strainer and larger intake hose to go with it
I agree
Allan

It’s an Aquila tender. Made by them. Thanks for watching!

All over the place. I’ll try and look it up. Thanks for watching
How about them Rangers!!
Yes!!

Edward William Marine Insurance. Happy to pass on my brokers name too
Thank you ! I look forward to hopefully meeting you out on the water !
I would be interested in your brokers name or contact. I emailed them over the weekend and I’m waiting to hear back.
great vid, but Tortoise not turtle, lol
