    Might want to consider putting big rocks around the entrance to the culvert to prevent erosion with continuous heavy rainstorms

    Welcome to the neighborhood. I have known the 2 crews you have used for the water drilling and road construction for many many years. You did pick good crews. Congratulations on 10 years. I hope you come to love the area as much as I do. Born and raised here and I don't want to be anywhere else.

    Something to seriously think about: Ginsing is a plant that is highly sought after. The root is what is most commonly used. It can bring a really good price. For instance, a pound of the roots can sell for several hundred dollars, a very lucrative business for sure. "In Arkansas, Ginseng is found only in moist shaded locations in the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains and on Crowley's Ridge. This plant is very sensitive to seasonal conditions such as rain and temperature. During dry years, it often goes dormant before the harvest season begins." Arkansas Department of Agriculture

      I watched a cable program on how Ginsing is poached in areas like that, and so much so, that it is getting harder to find. Be careful and watch for poachers!!

    Happy Anniversary guys, hey can I suggest something.. I would dig ditches deep along the roads since you get a good deal of rain. You could put nice foot bridges across and of course a bigger bridge for traffic. At least it would keep your roads a tad dryer.💖💖🇦🇺
    Mel you could set the KIDS thinking how to make the stream and the culverts look pretty using what they can find on the property. Make it their projects but then have them sit talk, think and become creative. Stress it’s has to be nice so people will see as they arrive on the property.. they have to clear it with you and they have to find the things to use... keeps them involved in this journey. Good luck if you use this idea 💖💖🇦🇺

    Looking Good. I would recommend a retaining wall at least on the upstream end of the large culvert to keep it from washing out. it could be as simple as stacked bags of quikrete.

    Looks great. Try using D/E for flea and tick abatement. It's cheap and will not harm animals. Pool supply store 50lb for $20. You can apply directly on dogs/cats.

    I think you should reconsider mounting your boot scraper on your step, I don't think you will like it there. It will be in the way most of the time and you won't want it there in the dry part of the year.I have the same scrapper and I mounted it on a piece of 1/8" plate aluminum that measures 9" x 19". Then it is not stationary and you can move it when ever you want. Just mount yours to a piece of wood that is about the same dimension as mine. You want it larger than the scrapper at both ends, so you can stand on the piece of wood with one foot while you clean the other and vise a versa.

    Stoney Ridge Farmer put an after market front bucket on his 4 wheeler. You might check into it. Gary is so talented in the mechanical deparyment...
    With your terrain it could get to places that a tractor can't...
    You are hitting it hard! Love watching the progress.

    When watering a new lawn, the best way of keeping the seed moist is by lightly sprinkling the seeded area of the lawn at least two to three times a day. Care must be taken to ensure the soil doesn't dry out. The seeds could perish if they are allowed to dry once the germination process has begun.

    🎉HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 🎉. ALSO, IF YOU'RE HAVING LIGHTNING STRIKES NEARBY, UNPLUG YOUR PHONES FROM THE CHARGER SO THEY DON'T GET FRIED. AND DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD WOOD THAT IS LARGE ENOUGH FOR SPLITTING IN A BONFIRE. YOU'RE GOING TO NEED TO CUT, SPLIT & STACK IT FOR WINTER FIREWOOD. IT'S GOING TO NEED TO SEASON. IF YOU PLAN ON BUILDING LIVING QUARTERS BY WINTER, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WANT TO BURN GREEN WOOD IN YOUR STOVE/FIREPLACE. WHENEVER YOU NEED TO CUT A TREE DOWN, CONSIDER WHAT IT COULD BE USED FOR, LUMBER OR FIREWOOD. HOPE I'VE HELPED IN SOME SMALL WAY. HAVE FUN & A GREAT DAY.

    You have a blessed family. You should go into multimedia career. Filming families. Love your husband's laugh. Makes me laugh. Hard working people. Good example for young generation. The children remind me of mine when we bought our first home in the woods. Property looking great! We put 4 coverts for our creek after two storms came back to back. Best choice we made. Have a good day. We had to learn how the water flowed during storms. Planting grass is a great decision. Might need to buy some sod pieces and place on edges.

    Hay helps grass seed grow in several ways. ... The hay helps hold the newly turned soil in place, preventing erosion so the seeds stay contact with the soil. Also, it adds nutrients to the soil as it decomposes, helping feed your grass as it grows.

    • @luella2u152
      @luella2u152 3 роки тому +2

      Use straw, not hay. Fewer weed seeds. But maybe you don't really care about the weeds. My dad says the difference between weeds and desirable plants is that one you want and the other you don't and, typically, the plants you want come out of the ground easier than the weeds. lol

    One more thing on that new road; Does your contractor have a vibrating roller for the finished compaction? Track layer tractors (Cats, et al) do a wonderful job of carving and general smoothing, but do a poor job of compacting. In case you didn't know, tracklayers were invented to prevent sinking and provide traction in the soft peat soil near Stockton, CA by Benjamin Holt back around 1904. The idea being, that the more square footage you have on the ground, the less weight per square foot presses down on the soil. Oh yeah, almost forgot; recommend that you start keeping an eye on your new road the minute you start using it. Anytime you feel a bump, think like that is probably the start of a pothole. By the way, nothing I've said here or before is intended to imply anything against your contractor. They appear to being a fine job - it's just the nature of gravel roads to deteriorate if not looked after, no matter how well built. As with everything else in this world, there are tons of UA-cam videos out there to guide you.
