Boon Gould - the only guy I've ever seen who could look like he'd never held a guitar before yet make playing one look so easy (if only). It takes a lot of talent to do that and Boon had it in spades; when the brothers left the band, something special left with them.
That's correct, when he solo'ed you'd hardly see his fingers move. He doesnt look great here, his suffering is on his sleeve. Great he could play one more time with L42. Tragic loss.
Boon looks so happy to be back on stage with his old pals Mark and Mike again one last time. You'd never guess that he suffered from depression for most of his life and would be diagnosed as bi-polar. It's such a shame what happened to him and the sudden and unespected news of his tragic early death was a huge shock to everyone. He is sorely missed. Rest in eternal peace, Boon.
Fantastic stuff indeed !, so after 25 years or so of being "absent" he calmly walks on and performs Heathrow as if he's never been away !!. One word: LEGEND !..........................
I personally reckon this is as near to a full reunion as we are ever going to get. No matter - I'm just glad somebody captured this for posterity. Bless you Keith!
Ow wow, brilliant to see Boon Gould playing with Mark and Mike again! It would have been even more awesome if Phil Gould had been there too. Great instrumental.
Boon was playing like he never left the band,..........stellar! R.I.P. Boon! This night was the closest that we ever got to an original Level 42 band line up.
Look how ALIVE & Pumped both Mike & Mark look performing with Boon! (particularly Mike). They seem very happy to be reunited again it would seem. SUCH a great Band and SUCH great chemistry & talent. Wish the original members could get back together again... Level 42 is one of my all-time favorite bands!
Tearing up watching this.....so sad that Boon suffered so much......love this band and love Boon's playing. They are an important part of my life for sure especially in the 80s!!!
What a *TREAT!!!* 💖💖💖 It's an honor to witness this onstage reunion even through video! *BOOOOOOON!!! ... BOOOOOOON!!!* 😊 Gotta' love it! *THANK YOU* for sharing this with us!🤗💖
How much more special is this now?! A really unique and awesome bit of Level 42 history captured for fans to see. Wish there were more songs with Boon playing but this is just fabulous.
Man, can you imagine is Phil would have been there, talk about epic, but I will not give up hope, I really believe the great 4 will come together at least one time. Video quality is off the charts. Happy to see Boon back and the boys having a great time. True musicians to the max.
Fantastic!! So good to see Boon again! Saw him in 1985 as a spotty teenager in Wembley - first ever live gig and was blown away by his playing! Would LOVE to see the original line up reunited, even for just one song one day....
I want to add that Boon's one solo on Ships off Retroglide is pure class. I don't play guitar but how he builds up that solo is something that most guitarists can only dream about. Along with Alan Murphy and Jakko all those players have a real depth to their playing.
When Level 42 comes back to the states bring both the Goulds brothers...Two Drummers and Two Guitars equals some serious music ! Thanks Level 42 i knew you guys would be up to this idea !
Brilliant. Was at the gig and brought back memories of ABC Brixton in early 80's. Best thing about Boon is that he is so awkward when on stage, priceless.
First of all shame on all the thumbs down voters. You have no life or taste. I’m writing this as Boon has sadly died and I wanted to simply express how much of a talent he was. Plus if anybody wants to see how effortless it can be to play. Just watch Boon doing his thing. Amazing. I’m a lifer but sadly never had the pleasure of seeing boon playing live as I missed this one. Plus how happy and psyched up mark and mike are having boon back on stage they just look so damned happy. Living it up till the sun goes down. RIP Boon Gould. One of the best.
BOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure if I hear Hiram Bullock when Boon plays or if I hear Boon Gould when Hiram played. Win Win either way. Thanks Smiley Hornet for posting this!
Last time i saw Level 42 we got to socialize with the band and yes you feel a familiar respect from these guys that they have for each other ! Love the positive vibe Level 42 has, hope to see you guys live again,Awesome to see Boon
Boon was a great musician. I don't know what he was like as a person, I never met him or saw him interviewed, but I've never heard anything negative about him. A sad loss to family, friends and fans.
Boon's right hand [pluck hand!] is minimal wrist 'pluck staccato'. I've never seen anything like it. His forearm doesn't move when he plays and creates the ultimate 'tick tock' sound for the repetitive 'Heathrow' .... and then, he unleashes his solo, which makes you understand that he is a great player and not a 'pheasant plucker'.
Well it's never a nice thing to upstage yer granddaddy is it? And this is the most smiley I've seen Boon on stage since they started to get the big gigs. It's like he's gone back to the beginning and is just having fun, great to see that. Cheers and thanks!
Boon's solo.....bouncing from mixolydian to minor pentatonic. Nice. Because Boon was always an extrovert I always think 'go on, my son!' His solo structures aren't always following an arc or cadencing where perhaps they should but that's his style. He's unique, which therefore made him interesting. Especially as he was so tight, concise and disciplined for 98% of the time then his solos were often wild like an escaped boa constrictor, let loose at last. Bless 'im. What was next btw? Heathrow then what?
At first I didn't recognize Boon (sorry)......my god, he has put on some weight since...I thought, who is this business man on stage ? But then as soon as they start playing..... MAGIC !!!!! all the great memories of long ago came back !! Thanks for posting this vid !!!!! Oh and Mark, next time also invite Phil on your birthday.... Okay....?! hahaha..
Fantastic recording Keith, thanks. Did you manage to get any of the other tracks Boon played? For For those who weren’t at Bristol; Boon played Heathrow, Sun Goes Down, Star Child, Something About You, Hot Water. Then for the encore; Mark brought Boon back out towards the end of Love Games and the Chinese Way to finish. All the band had huge grins through out the performance; it was amazing to see and hear.
A little note: Mark is mistaken, 1986 was when the original lineup played this lovely track on the European leg of World Machine tour. Close though Mark
The more I watch this the more I wonder why Nathan just didn't hand back from playing & give Boon stage, after all he was the original guitarist, would this one song have killed him not to play.
R.I.P Boon. A very sad day today 1st May 2019.
Boon Gould - the only guy I've ever seen who could look like he'd never held a guitar before yet make playing one look so easy (if only). It takes a lot of talent to do that and Boon had it in spades; when the brothers left the band, something special left with them.
Ha ha . Agreed. It does n`t help that he looks like my brother-in-law!!!

How touching to see & hear today! RIP SIR BOON!!!!
what a player he is !!! underrated ARTIST
Boon was playing like he never left the band,..........stellar! R.I.P. Boon!
This night was the closest that we ever got to an original Level 42 band line up.
I was standing right there
Look how ALIVE & Pumped both Mike & Mark look performing with Boon! (particularly Mike). They seem very happy to be reunited again it would seem. SUCH a great Band and SUCH great chemistry & talent. Boon....Mr L42 you will always be alive in my heart....My mind....and my CD collection RIP My man
Good to see him playing with Level 42. :)

He always seemed a reluctant guitarist in the limelight. Rest easy Boon, no more suffering.
god bless you all of level 42 and your fans boon i was there that night great to see you now god bless you boon deeply missed
I am so glad this happened. RIP Boon.
Fantastic!! So good to see Boon again! Saw him in 1985 as a spotty teenager in Wembley - first ever live gig and was blown away by his playing! Would LOVE to see the original line up reunited, even for just one song one day....
Foundational to the huge L42 catalogue is this man - Boon Gould - great lyricist + guitarist and delighted to see a lifelong friend of Mark&Mike!
I want to add that Boon's one solo on Ships off Retroglide is pure class. I don't play guitar but how he builds up that solo is something that most guitarists can only dream about. Along with Alan Murphy and Jakko all those players have a real depth to their playing.
I was there, a fantastic night, especially the acoustic set
When Level 42 comes back to the states bring both the Goulds brothers...Two Drummers and Two Guitars equals some serious music ! Thanks Level 42 i knew you guys would be up to this idea !
Boon just blew Nathan right off the stage... wish I'd have been there, too damn awesome! :D
Saw this band many times in my teens, such a big influence, rest well in beats Boon xx
Such a fine and brilliant moment of the band's history, and what a lucky audience!
RIP Boon.
A brilliant composer and musician.
The soundtrack to my youth.
Was gutted when he and Phil left the band all those years ago. This brings the 80s flooding back
Thanks so much for posting this, the old magic back! Have loved Level 42 since the 80's. Can't beat the original line up, SUPERB!
Was nice to see him smiling - was clearly enjoying the moment. RIP Boon.

Pure class, Boon plays so effortlessly.
A touching reunion, such a great performance
Brilliant. Was at the gig and brought back memories of ABC Brixton in early 80's. Best thing about Boon is that he is so awkward when on stage, priceless.

BOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure if I hear Hiram Bullock when Boon plays or if I hear Boon Gould when Hiram played. Win Win either way. Thanks Smiley Hornet for posting this!
What I hear is a guy who didn't stop playing when he left the band and that's reaĺly really cool.
Bloody hell, Boon. You killed it here mate. Gawd bless ya x
I always held out just a little hope that Boon, Phil, Mike & Mark would write and play together again. Alas, its not to be. R.I.P. Boon.
BAM! And that's how you do it people! So fantastic. Still got it boys. xo
So sad. Boon commented suicide a few years later. He suffered from depression most of his life. Great to see him back with the band 👏

Absolutely L42s best number. Classic
Boon was a great musician.
I don't know what he was like as a person, I never met him or saw him interviewed, but I've never heard anything negative about him.
A sad loss to family, friends and fans.
AHH Boon, rolling back the years. God bless.
Epic night! What on earth did we do so right to deserve last nights gig?!? No words x
One of the best sax breaks i've heard from Sean F !
3 out of 4 ain't bad, now we'll definitely never see all 4 together again. Too young at 64, all strength to his family at this time.
RIP Boon. Godspeed X
R.I.P. Boon ❤
More please of Boon with Level 42
it's funny that Boon used to be the tall very skinny one in the band, well he has certainly put on some stones since then :)
Boon's right hand [pluck hand!] is minimal wrist 'pluck staccato'. I've never seen anything like it. His forearm doesn't move when he plays and creates the ultimate 'tick tock' sound for the repetitive 'Heathrow' .... and then, he unleashes his solo, which makes you understand that he is a great player and not a 'pheasant plucker'.
the best band ever.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this. Lovely to see. RIP Boon.
