Hi fpv, this is just a beginner's guide on how to program the controller. It has a sound sensor enabling it to sync to the sound of any song as long as you play it loud enough. You can program what you want for each light to do depending on what your light can do, assign them to channels and play those channels randomly or sequentially or by using the built in mic to sync with sound.

Maybe you can help me on this, as I’m about to tear what’s left of my hair out. I can’t seem to get a response out of any light I try to connect. I’m only testing one light at a time, I’ve checked that each light is set to address 1, I’ve done a factory reset on the console, I’ve tried switching cables and I’ve tried switching terminators. But whenever I operate the slider control, the light simply does not respond. Is it possible I got a bad console out of the box?
have you tried without a terminator? i don't use those. if yes and it still does not work for you, try to borrow a different controller just to isolate if it is indeed your dmx controller at fault.
thx 4 this tutorial, really helps! So my plan is to program some chases for when there's a break in the music or a buildup to the main theme. At other moments I'm busy mixing my music so I want my fixtures just to respond to the music (they all have built in microphones). So can I change my fixtures from manual DMX mode to auto music mode using my controller? (Using an Ayra 1612 Mk II) ?
Same with the PAR leds. Assign a DMX address on the moving head, and select that channel on the controller. If you don't have the manual for your light fixture, then see what each slider does.
I ordered my first controller after having dabbled with entry level lighs in the late 90s/00s as a teen. then about 8yrs ago I collected a Chauvet scorpion GBC and 2 of the 1st generation ADJ Pocket Scans and I just bought one of those cheap full color lasers so it was certainly time for a controller. However I've spent the last 2 weeks watching tons of videos on programming and the more I watch the more intimidated i get, lol. But this is one of the easiest to understand tutorials Ive seen so far. And the fact that you go further into chases was cool. I still think I will have this video cued up on my phones when I try to put this to action. Its also hard for me using vintage lights that dont have all the features, use less channels and have zero videos on how to program them specifically. Is it more difficult to program a laser than it is scanners? Also do you know how to make scanner "mirror" each other if they dont have a built in mirror program?
@@DJDLS I was lucky that ADJ's website still has an archive page for this long discontinued fixture and I was able to download the manual and sadly it doesnt say anything about mirroring. These lights came out in '98/99 so they are quite old. One thing said they art 4 channel another that they are 7, and that claim was explained by the diagram showing what each of the 7 ch controls via the faders. But I hooked them up to the controller again last night with one set at address 1 and the other set at 5 incase they were 4ch, then address 8 in case they were 7 and address 17 since alot of tutorials said you always set the dmx address at increments of 16 but I was only able to control the fixture connected directly to the controller. When I randomly decided to set the 2nd scanner also to address 1 then it began working and it was basically just copying fixture 1 but seemed to be a fraction of a second out of sync. Also the only only time they actually move around after I chose a color and gobo and adjusted the pan/tilt is when I have the 6th fader(which controls the speed) all the way up which is it's "audio mode" even though no music was playing, but if I move it down even the slightest amount to what is supposed to be a "fast" setting they stop moving.
Thank you po for the reply@@DJDLS. I've been trying to look for a disco ball like that sa mga Lazada stores kaso wala po, kahit sa flagship store ng big dipper (coz I'm from Visayas). Does it come with a remote control po ba?

hi thank you for this video! i have quick questions. 1) there are only 8 faders, from what i understood, each corresponds to 2 channels and you control what channels with the two arrow shaped buttons on top. in that case, how would you control channels 1 and 14 at the same time? is it even possible? 2) I understant thate there are 12 buttons controlling fixtures on the left side. if each button controls 16 channels, that would only equal to 12x16=192 channels. Am I missing some or is it not a DMX 512? 3) lastly, if one fixture only needs 6 channels instead of 16, does that mean that 1,2,3,4,5,6 are occupied in button 1 and that all from 7to16 are left empty? Can't we make it so that the second fixture occupies channels 7 to 16 instead (to not waste channels lol). Hopefully you'll have time to answer this, but if not, thanks anyways for an already really helpful video :)
1) you can control them as you program your sequences as you will have to have fast hands to be able to shift from page A to page B just to access channels from each page if you are playing it live. 2) the 512 could be for branding purposes only :D 3) i think the fader assignments are dependent on the fixture and the controller is just there to read them :)
Just want to ask something about the fixtures... So counting (address) would be Fix1=1... Fix2=17... Fix3=33... Fix4=49.. Right? Can I use the numbers from 2-16? Example... I have two groups of fixtures... the 1st group has 2 lights... and the 2nd group has 2 lights also... Can I set like this..... Group1Fix1=1.... Group1Fix2=2... Group2Fix1= 17... and Group2Fix2=18???
for Group1Fix1=1 then Group1Fix2=2, i'm assuming this fixture only has one mode, maybe a haze machine for example just to turn it on or off? then Group1Fix2=2 has 16 modes or parameters that is why you assigned Group2Fix1= to address 17? then yes you can i think. as i did the same to my haze machine, assigned it to button 12 and gave it the address after adding all the addresses assigned to buttons 1 thru 11.
@@DJDLS I'm not getting it clearly.. Im not an expert... Uhm.. let me change my question... If I have 3 fixtures, can I assign those three to 001? I mean the address of those three are the same?
All the par leds up top have the same addresses but assigned to buttons 1 to 4 on the dmx so you can control them at once or individually. So all are assigned 001 on the back of each light. Next are the mini moving heads, assigned addresses are both 017 and set to buttons 5 and 6 on the dmx.
Yes, you just have to figure out how many channels your moving light has and what each channel does. Check your light fixture manual or if you don't have one then just test each slider and see what it does.
@@DJDLS thanks , yes it doesn't have the manual ...I bought them from second hand shop. Do you know how to check or treat moving light that has not been used for along time?
hi, i'm assuming when you referred to the table, you meant the dmx controller on my table right? yes you can, but since the dmx controller only has one output, you can only control that one fixture. if you wish to add more fixtures, you would need to loop out from your first light the next one. hope this helps, cheers!
What sort of industry instructions or standards are there for the type of functions you can control - how do you know/can find out what effects the "faders" control before even purchasing lights? What im really asking is that have a 4 beam laser, 4 individual beams. Is there anyway of knowing what can be controlled, or i just have to buy a controller and find out. Its motorized with red, green, bluex yellow lasers. Thanks...
if your light fixture came with a manual, there should be information there that will tell you what channels can be controlled (if there are any). the lights in my example, being really cheap ones, did not come with a manual so i just had to do trial and error to figure out what channels are controllable. i also have a cheap red/green laser and it allows me to control only the on/off for both colors and the shape of the patterns it can make. i have one light fixture that do not have any controllable channels at all. so before buying a fixture, ask the seller for more information or search online if there is a manual you can read and download before buying the light. cheers!
@@AndysKitchen it still worked but the channels were offset. Maybe that's why the same par lights had different slider assignments 🙂 thanks for pointing that out.

But you are not getting proper channel functionality of the 3rd par across all 6 sliders that are supposed to control it unless it is set to 33.. 01, 17, 33, 49, 65, 81, 97, 113 ect

@@DJDLS I’ll give that a whirl. Thanks.
thx 4 this tutorial, really helps!
Yes you can. Set the controller up at arms length so it would be easy to press anytime you need it 👍
How do you use this DMX mixer with the U-King Dj moving head lights
Same with the PAR leds. Assign a DMX address on the moving head, and select that channel on the controller. If you don't have the manual for your light fixture, then see what each slider does.
If I have two bean moving heads what channel do I put them on to make them work? functions work just no light turns on
It depends on how many channels your moving heads have. You can assign both to 001 so you can troubleshoot using the sliders to see what they do.
@@DJDLS thanks I got the light to turn on. One more question how do I go through the gobos using it?
Am new to using it
that i am not sure, i have not used a fixture with gobos yet. @@joshrodrigues5310
Thanks!
Scannera usually have a mirror setting on them.
Thank you a lot
Thank you for the very clear tutorial po. Can I ask where did you purchase or order your disco ball po?
Glad it helped you. Got mine from Raon, Quiapo. Brand is Big Dipper.
Thank you po for the reply@@DJDLS. I've been trying to look for a disco ball like that sa mga Lazada stores kaso wala po, kahit sa flagship store ng big dipper (coz I'm from Visayas). Does it come with a remote control po ba?
@@ludylynalmine5545 yung sa akin walang remote na kasama.
Tnx po for the info@@DJDLS . Sayang lang po kasi it seems like out of stock na yung item sa big dipper store. I would prefer it over the ones with remote control.
@@ludylynalmine5545 yes big dipper dapat. Mas maliwanag at siguradong makokontrol ng dmx.
This controller states it can be controlled by midi imput. But there is not midi imput port on the controller. How does that work?
I have not explored that possibility yet. Maybe the Chauvet branded unit does have a midi port.
Does this controller have a build-in microphone?
yes for playing back sequences to the beat of your music :)

How can you adjust the light intensity in automatic mode?
i dont think you can. you have to program it then run your sequence.
What wireless communicator did you use for the first light connection?

The original manual for this product has to be one of the worst I've ever seen... thanks for a great walkthrough!

can you use this controller for moving heads?
yes
hi thank you for this video! i have quick questions.
2) the 512 could be for branding purposes only :D
3) i think the fader assignments are dependent on the fixture and the controller is just there to read them :)
@@DJDLS thank you so much for your answer :)
Pretty rough with those sliders...wow......good video though
That's a stress test right there too man 😂 thanks for watching! ❤️🙂
@@darny12 yes you can, best if those are the same fixtures, like 4 par leds maybe. Check out my lights demo video on the link below
ua-cam.com/video/1mONoQ0Ms0E/v-deo.html
All the par leds up top have the same addresses but assigned to buttons 1 to 4 on the dmx so you can control them at once or individually. So all are assigned 001 on the back of each light. Next are the mini moving heads, assigned addresses are both 017 and set to buttons 5 and 6 on the dmx.
How to connect sound
Mine does not have a sound input, just a built-in mic.
Is there a way to save a scene to a fader instead of a button?
i don't think it's possible here
@@DJDLS thanks for the response!
Can dmx set with moving light?
Yes, you just have to figure out how many channels your moving light has and what each channel does. Check your light fixture manual or if you don't have one then just test each slider and see what it does.
@@DJDLS thanks , yes it doesn't have the manual ...I bought them from second hand shop. Do you know how to check or treat moving light that has not been used for along time?

Hi ! I have a question, can we control a light with a DMX cable connected to the table and goes direcly to the light?
hi, i'm assuming when you referred to the table, you meant the dmx controller on my table right? yes you can, but since the dmx controller only has one output, you can only control that one fixture. if you wish to add more fixtures, you would need to loop out from your first light the next one. hope this helps, cheers!
DJ DLS thankkk you!! :)))
How can i install moving heads?
Assign a dmx address and connect them via dmx cable. check the channel assignments from your moving heads manual.
Sir pwede isang wireless atena lang?
dalawa yun, transmitter saka receiver. yung receiver pwedeng isa lang papunta sa t-stand mo tapos series mo ng dmx cables the rest of your fixtures.
ibig sabihan mula sa dmx controller isang transmitter tapos sa ilaw isang transmitter din?

What sort of industry instructions or standards are there for the type of functions you can control - how do you know/can find out what effects the "faders" control before even purchasing lights? What im really asking is that have a 4 beam laser, 4 individual beams. Is there anyway of knowing what can be controlled, or i just have to buy a controller and find out. Its motorized with red, green, bluex yellow lasers. Thanks...
if your light fixture came with a manual, there should be information there that will tell you what channels can be controlled (if there are any). the lights in my example, being really cheap ones, did not come with a manual so i just had to do trial and error to figure out what channels are controllable. i also have a cheap red/green laser and it allows me to control only the on/off for both colors and the shape of the patterns it can make. i have one light fixture that do not have any controllable channels at all. so before buying a fixture, ask the seller for more information or search online if there is a manual you can read and download before buying the light. cheers!
But 17 + 16 = 33 not 34 how dose your par work:D

@@DJDLS but it should not work if you set it to the wrong address - my experience
