Ashleigh I am LIVING for your birthday month shows and movies! It’s been great. It’s your channel, it’s your birthday month, you enjoy yourself how you want. I’m here for it.
In Andersen's fairy tale, the Little Mermaid takes the knife and agrees to kill the prince. But when she tries to do it, she finds that she can't kill him, and instead, she sacrifices herself to save his life and turns into sea foam.
Doesn't turn into sea foam (as other mermaids). Becomes a daughter of air and can earn back her soul over a thousand years by visiting children and making them happy.
Watching you regress full on to a little girl singing was probably the most heart warming thing I’ve seen in a while. This is why you’re the queen of the reactors. Thank you for inviting us in to a part of your childhood.
Unfortunately no, the man on the boat that says he'll take Ariel to the castle is not the original voice of Sebastian, Samuel E. Wright. He died of prostate cancer in 2021.
Y'ALL I NEED HELP! Disney specifically made a movie FOR ASHLEIGH and it's not being recommended to her! Who here remembers THE THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA?
Before I watch the video i have to say, as a cast member in wdw I am so sad I didn't run into you on your trip down here hahah! HOWEVER I hope you had the most magical birthday trip!
That’s not the original voice of Sebastian. This Sebastian actor is Daveed Diggs. Daveed Diggs is probably most known for being in the original cast of Hamilton.
A way underrated film I haven’t seen anyone react to is Noises Off (1992) . Comedy legend Carol Burnett, John Ritter, and Christopher Reeve. I will say the first 15 minutes aren’t super exciting, and some viewers might be wondering wtf, but that’s all the set-up for the rest. I suggest doing this after Deliverance, you’ll need something happy or funny.
I didn't grow up a huge fan of the animated version of The Little Mermaid, it wasn't my thing. I did however get full body chills and a bit misty eyed when Ariel started singing Part of Your World.
A lot of people were upset that they race swapped an imaginary character and I don't understand why, this actress did a wonderful job playing Ariel. I thought overall this was a good movie and my only complaint is the songs weren't as good as the animated version. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.
In "Much Ado About Nothing", back in 1993, there was far more criticism of Keanu Reeves as Don John or Michael Keaton as Dogberry than there was of Denzel Washington as Don Pedro, the Prince. The only question should have been the performers' portrayal of their parts, but before they had the chance to exhibit their merits, they were compromised by the Disney Marketing Department's DEI/WOKENESS NARRATIVE. There's a WILD Christmas movie from 2020 called “Fatman” that has Mel Gibson as Chris Cringle and Marianne Jean-Baptiste as his wife Ruth Cringle. Ethnicity has nothing to do with any of the characters in the movie. Any one of them could have been from any background without it mattering one bit. The movie is about the STORY it tells, and it's a really FUN story.
One more comment, according to the tie-in book The Guide to Merfolk, Ursula was indeed the cause of the Sea Queen’s death. She disguised herself as the Queen, went to the surface and caused all of the chaos. By the time the real Queen surfaced to investigate the commotion she heard, the humans were enraged. One man spotted her and threw a harpoon. The Sea Queen defended Ursula and died in the process.
Ashleigh's the only other person I've seen watch this movie and like the Scuttlebutt song and she's honestly so real for that, it's such a fun addition.
I loved Daveed as Sebastian and he can do zero wrong for me. I love Scuttlebutt. But my favorite detail is they made more of a point of showing her as a siren and that her little melody (no pun intended for those who know the sequel) is a sirens song. Love it.
I really loved it too!! I loved how they gave Erics side too, it showed how good of a match they are. Eric still has his dimples too!! I was blushing lol.
I loved that they showed how much he's a collector of nerdy stuff too and just as she doesn't really know what all that 'human crap' does, he did need some instructions on what some of his treasures can do apart from just looking neat. That was my favourite addition to the story.
I feel so bad for Ashleigh. She walked into an internet battlefield and all she wanted was to have fun watching a movie. Maybe ignore the comments on this one? 😅
You singing every song is also me. LOL.. I watched the original so many times I had the dialogue memorized. I watched it the other day.. I still remember. I actually haven't watched this one, but I think after this I'm good. I don't like that they cut out the chef's song. It's one of my favorites. I don't think this one was needed, imho. She has an amazing voice, but this story is for your generation not mine. I got over that she wasn't white or had red hair, after she belted out that first book number. Talent is talent, and she was the perfect choice.

There's a 2022 Festivus musical that nobody saw called Spirited, a fantasy starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. It only ran for 1 week in a dozen theatres then went straight to streaming on Apple+ where it was totally ignored. it's a Scrooged remake with Ryan in Bill Murray's role and you get to see the HQ where the Ghosts of Christmas work, Ash would absolutely love it.
For your birthday, my present to you suggesting again you should watch "Some kind of wonderful" it stars one of Ashleigh's girl crushes Mary Stuart Masterson, and it's the ending pretty in pink should have had
Main scene that really disappointed me was under the sea. They totally took out the part that Sebastian was this musician, and none of the animals played instruments in this one even though the song itself talks about how all of these animals were playing instruments? It didn’t make any sense. Yeah there were some pretty CGI, but I just thought Sebastian as a whole was really underwhelming. His personality was just not there, maybe it was the directing, I don’t know. It was also a little odd that they made her forget that she needed to get the kiss by the end of the third day? It totally took away the ticking clock aspect on her end. I did like the addition of the chemistry between Eric and Ariel.
Ashleigh you got to watch Throw Momma From The Train (1987) Starring Danny Devito, Billy Crystal And Anne Ramsey from the goonies and I also wanna Throw in Waiting to exhale (1995) starring Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and lola Rochan because last month was women month
I loved this remake. I watched The Little Mermaid a bit growing up but it wasn’t my favorite. This remake made me love the story. I watched this in theaters. It was a magical experience
I remember watching a Little Mermaid cartoon movie when i was younger but it was the Hans Christian Andersen original story version. Let me tell you, that was traumatizing for a 9 year old to watch. Especially since i was expecting the Disney version. But I actually ended up loving that version. I'm a huge fan of the Disney adaptation but the original has a special place in my heart.
Great review! I am glad that you liked the new version. I did two. Both movies stand on their own merits. Halle Bailey was fantastic. She has an amazing voice!
I hadn't seen this before I mailed a package to you last week due to show up tomorrow. I'm glad you can enjoy both the old and new versions of the Little Mermaid. I hope you have enough room on your wall for more Mermaid stuff. My niece was a born ball of energy. My brother and sister-in-law were exhausted. I was appreciated because I could tell her about my day and put her to sleep, but otherwise nothing worked. Then they discovered that she would not move from the front of the TV if the Little Mermaid was on, so they would put it on a loop somehow and wake up hours later in the living room to find her having collapsed asleep on some pillows in front of the TV so she could be taken up to bed. Although she was smart enough to be a surgeon or scientist, she studied drama and teaching and became a top hospitality agent at Disney World. She has moved on from that job but she now makes miniature versions of Disney clothing for her daughter and takes her to shows at Disney World where the daughter is invited to parade with the adults dressed like her. So the Little Mermaid is important to me. But I have stopped following media that I used to be expert at so I haven't seen any of the new Mermaid until I saw the clips that you shared. Thanks! I hope I luck into your next live unboxing video.
Ashleigh… I need you to watch the live action Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. Cinderella is the best remake overall, despite not being a musical. Beauty and the Beast did the best job of incorporating new music that feels organic against the original soundtrack. Please, please, please watch these two.
I agree with beauty and the beast the music direction was almost perfect. I too loved the blend of new and old and the fact they used some of the unused lyrics from the original film and weaved some of the old score into the new. It's a shame they auto tuned the crap out of the actors singing?
A lot of the disney remakes that have come out in the last 10 years or so I think people are being way too overly critical and are hating just to hate. Like my favorite disney movies are Aladdin and Jungle Book and I loved the live actions of those movies. The only I feel did drop the ball was Lion King
This reaction is TOP tier! I am a 90s kid, and elder millennial if you would, and I am LIVING for this!!!!! TLM is my FAVORITE Disney movie!! This making it come to "LIFE" just uh, made my little innner child heart so happy!
I liked Eric's song, and his whole character development. They really found a way to book-end Ariel and Eric's longings to be a part of each other's worlds. I thought that was great. I liked Ariel's new song- the one she sings only in her head. That was a good one. Scuttle's song I was not a fan of. Not terrible, but not great. For me, it didn't fit with the rest: it was too Lin Manuel Miranda, and not enough Ashman / Menken. Don't get me wrong; I love Miranda's work! But it wasn't stylistically consistent with the established musical style of all of the other songs. It stood out, 'sall I'm saying. And it really didn't move the plot at all, or explain anyone's inner feelings, or anything. As exposition of the situation, two lines of dialogue could have done the same thing. So.. not the best, IMHO. Again- not terrible; I did not hate it! But I didn't love it. Sebastian and Flounder and Scuttle being "photorealistic" CGI animals was off-putting, for me. I know that that's what Disney was going for in this latest live action remake: totally live action, totally photorealistic where actual live action is impossible. But they're already talking; the real life believability is already being stretched. Meh; not great, not terrible, just sort of slightly uncomfortable. I felt the same way about the "live action" Lion King. Their choice to make all of the animals as photo-realistic as possible took away from the anthropomorphic human connection. Honestly, I felt more attached to the animals in "The Incredible Journey" (1963) that were literally live animals that didn't even talk (but for voice-overs). So.. that's my opinion on that. Overall: Loved it. I loved this movie. There is literally no movie I love that I do not also have some criticisms. Star Wars, Monty Python, Danny Kaye, all of my favorites are not 1000% perfect; they all have their minor flaws, but I love them all the more. I'm not going to put this one quite up there with my favorites of all time, no. But I really did love it quite a lot. I've seen it more than once, would see it again. Halle Bailey was phenomenal; absolutely phenomenal. What a great find, casting-wise. Helluva good movie. Made me laugh, made me cry, made me dance, had a whole lotta heart. 10/10.
The amount of butt hurt people had over Ariel is crazy to me. edit: If the character isn't an actual person or if their heritage/culture isn't a main theme of the film. Why does anyone care?
@@tanelviil9149 he means: - that people got angry that triton now has different and mix colored daughters. ariel got a bit backlash as beeing not white like in the original too - but this had to be predicted by disney if you change the main role. - the men are reduced to simps who cant speak on their own and ariel is her own hero - she needs no man ( woke influence) this sums it up more or less. *on my own i dont like that triton has differen color daughters too - bc that mean he is a polygamist and fucks all around the ocean - for me thats not a good fatherfigure. *i love the portrait of ursula - this was a perfect choice of actor - edit: more like the best actor in the movie
no it isn't. The creators based her on a number of creatures, mainly an OCTOPUS. The voice actress said she was a squid, but the voice actress didn't create her. Ron Clements based her on an Octopus. 2 less legs to make the animation easier and more simple.
Please add these movies to your list: Thrillers: Stir of Echoes, The Good son, Cube Cowboy movies: The Quick and the dead, Maverick Musical: Hairspray Action Thriller: Deathproof, Natural Born Killers, LGBTQ themed : Professor Marston and the wonder women and Victor/Victoria
It just didn't land for me. Just different small aspects, like making the songs a little more poppy and the like. Not to mention, the idea of live action remakes of the animated movies is just wrong to me, because the animated versions are already good--instead it would be good if they try to make something new. But, as a trans woman, the Little Mermaid has always spoken to me in a particular way, since Ariel goes to great lengths to join a community she was told she could never be a part of. Funnily, when Mulan came out I didn't have the same reaction (though I assume trans men may have actually gotten something out of that one). As with every video of yours, I recommend the movie Imagine Me & You, as well as Zsazsa Zaturnnah.
You wanna see a really weird and f-ed up film "inspired by" the little mermaid fairy tale? A Polish film: "The Lure" (2015). Super weird. Graphic nudity; get ready with the censor bars and editing. But quite entertaining! The setting and characters are *completely* different! But it for sure pulls elements of the original tale that Disney was not going to touch! Worth a watch, for anyone who's interested. NOT for children!! Adults only!!!
In the original story, in order to become a human, Ariel must sacrifice her tongue. When she gets legs each step is like walking on the blade of a knife.
I have a photo of my now-34-year-old nephew watching our tape of the animated Little Mermaid when he was about two. He is sitting in the little rocking chair that had been ours when me and my sibs were young, leaning forward, just mesmerized. The power of Disney!
I find this the meh version, not bad but not good. I think my only complaint was how muted the colors were. The movie was too dark to be a tropical location. But because this movie relied so heavily on CGI, bright color would make it more unrealistic than it already is. I am one of the few who loved Sebastian and Flounder in this movie, they were still kinda cute and adorable. Fun fact, Lin-Manuel Miranda is such a huge Little Mermaid fan that he name one of his son after Sebastian.
Well . . . if you want a deep voice to do some of the parts, try listening to Voiceplay's cover of "The Little Mermaid". I think they have just what you are looking for.
Love your reactions! As far as a series for Wednesdays, you should try reacting to THE Vampire Diaries. I believe it's right up your alley. Lots of folks also love watching reactions to it.
I don’t know if this one is better or the first one, but it is always a treat when a movie, song or something else makes an adult remember what it is like to be a child, with all your innocent excitement your reaction was a true joy. ❤
Melissa McCarthy is what made this movie for me. I liked the movie but the rewrite to make Ariel a more self sufficient character (although a nice touch) kind of made Prince Eric a boring 'who gives a derrn' character. By the way, King Triton is played by Javier Bardem who you may remember as Stilgar in "Dune" parts 1 & 2, Anton Chigurh in "No Country for Old Men, and Captain Salazar in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales". The man is just plain talented.
So i know in this story they made it where Ariel forgets she needs a kiss to win the bet. The thing that doesnt make sense is that her allies and the song at @33:40 literally talk about "kissing the girl". How can she forget thats what her main goal is, mid song? Do mermaids even know what a kiss is? How are they so knowledgable about the world out of the water, and yet dont know so many more common sense things? The story makes alot more questions with these new rules they brought to the remake
1 where's the bright red hair if we're comparing it to the animated version. 2 The Little Mermaid was white because the story was written by H C Anderson who was Danish, it's a Danish fairy tale. I don't see Disney turning main characters that were originally black into white people. And to be clear I'd also be upset if they turned Tiana into a different "race". She's an iconic strong black woman & she should remain that way. 3 It really doesn't matter who plays Ariel or how good of an actor they are, Disney's version of thd Little Mermaid is garbage compared to the original story. Never been a big Little Mermaid fan then when I got older & read the original story again I was like this is way better then the movie.
Since you liked the extra songs and slight change of character emphasis, I must recommend the live remake of Aladdin with Will Smith as the Genie. It also has extra songs - especially for Jasmin, and the 'Prince Ali' number is Epic!
the jasmine song was so disappointing. Aladdin is the only successful male prince character and they basically relegated him in the movie. What a sad day when I saw them weaken Aladddin when he is the only one repping the men on the prince/princesses scale
@@robhax jasmine always had depth. I can't speak too much as I'm not someone who enjoys spoiling especially on a react channel comment section but she was one of the most popular princesses already. Giving her girl boss anthem did not help the movie
@@nin29nin This remake is racist. Ariel is supposed to be a white ginger. Disney ruined Ariel, Snow White, Peter Pan, and a long list of other things because of their left-wing politics.

RIP Louis Gossett Jr. ; legendary actor.
Please watch Iron Eagle or Enemy Mine in remembrance.
Iron Eagle on the Channel
thank you I'll watch that.
Enemy Mine! Definitely! I even recommend Officer and a Gentleman.
@@awkwardashleigh are you jewish ?
@@sumthingwikked4257I mean his performance in Officer and a Gentleman literally made history.
A lot of the disney remakes that have come out in the last 10 years or so I think people are being way too overly critical and are hating just to hate. Like my favorite disney movies are Aladdin and Jungle Book and I loved the live actions of those movies. The only I feel did drop the ball was Lion King
Javier Bardem should only play characters with hair flowing in the water LOL
34:12 I think it's a lung.
This reaction is TOP tier! I am a 90s kid, and elder millennial if you would, and I am LIVING for this!!!!! TLM is my FAVORITE Disney movie!! This making it come to "LIFE" just uh, made my little innner child heart so happy!
31:41-31:52 I loved that Scuttle moment 😆
Why does anyone care?
what do you mean ?
It bombed internationally. Majority of the money it made was domestic, which wasn’t much in comparison to its budget and marketing costs.
@@tanelviil9149 he means:
- that people got angry that triton now has different and mix colored daughters. ariel got a bit backlash as beeing not white like in the original too - but this had to be predicted by disney if you change the main role.
- the men are reduced to simps who cant speak on their own and ariel is her own hero - she needs no man ( woke influence)
this sums it up more or less.
*on my own i dont like that triton has differen color daughters too - bc that mean he is a polygamist and fucks all around the ocean - for me thats not a good fatherfigure.
*i love the portrait of ursula - this was a perfect choice of actor - edit: more like the best actor in the movie
Awwww, someone butt hurt that the lead isn't a white person? @Exocrime
I hated all the changes but who cares, many like it. The original is still there for me.
Most people don't realize that this version of Ursula is an octopus but the cartoon version is a squid.
no it isn't. The creators based her on a number of creatures, mainly an OCTOPUS. The voice actress said she was a squid, but the voice actress didn't create her. Ron Clements based her on an Octopus. 2 less legs to make the animation easier and more simple.
Please add these movies to your list:
Thrillers: Stir of Echoes, The Good son, Cube
Cowboy movies: The Quick and the dead, Maverick
Musical: Hairspray
Action Thriller: Deathproof, Natural Born Killers,
LGBTQ themed : Professor Marston and the wonder women and Victor/Victoria
I recommend the movie City Slickers with Billy Crystal. I think you’d really like it.
Oh my god yes I’ve been wanting her to watch it for so long!!
I wish disney would stop the live action remakes they are all terrible compared to the animated versions.
that is because long ago you had talented people who loved their work at Disney, these days you just have morons.
I enjoyed many of them. Maybe don't watch them if you don't care for them?
You wanna see a really weird and f-ed up film "inspired by" the little mermaid fairy tale? A Polish film: "The Lure" (2015). Super weird. Graphic nudity; get ready with the censor bars and editing. But quite entertaining! The setting and characters are *completely* different! But it for sure pulls elements of the original tale that Disney was not going to touch! Worth a watch, for anyone who's interested. NOT for children!! Adults only!!!
The original cartoon is far superior.
8:12 the breed of the bird to one that dives into the water (granted they exaggerate how long)…delaying her going to the surface.
A Northern Gannet
In the original story, in order to become a human, Ariel must sacrifice her tongue. When she gets legs each step is like walking on the blade of a knife.
Apparently, her tail was also sliced in half to become her legs but I've never read the fairytale in full myself.
As a 90s kid i loved watching some of the classics on vhs this one i owned too
Ashleigh, I had a wonderful time watching you have a good time. Thank you. 😀
2:25 - So....who's gonna tell Ashleigh it's Friday?
Hans Christian Andersen is tuning in his grave for this dishonour.
You're real Stupid because Hans didn't write this version. Know your facts before you post Stupid shit 😊
No he isn’t. Get over it you racist prick
Indira is indeed from Bridgerton! I haven’t seen it yet, but so many people were freaking out over her being in this movie, how could I not know?? Lol
17:53 the fact is that prince Eric didn’t sing in the original version of the little mermaid 🧜🏻♀️
Well . . . if you want a deep voice to do some of the parts, try listening to Voiceplay's cover of "The Little Mermaid". I think they have just what you are looking for.
I think she'd absolutly love the Kingdome Hearts games
Love your reactions! As far as a series for Wednesdays, you should try reacting to THE Vampire Diaries. I believe it's right up your alley. Lots of folks also love watching reactions to it.
The actress with the ringlet hair , she played a paramedic in casualty which is a uk medical soap drama
I don’t know if this one is better or the first one, but it is always a treat when a movie, song or something else makes an adult remember what it is like to be a child, with all your innocent excitement your reaction was a true joy. ❤
Probably one of the best live-action Disney movies, save for Jungle Book
Must react to the movie "WILD THINGS" with Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Kevin Bacon, Denise Richards. It has a huge star cast. Great movie, I promise!!
The weather changing fast scared you? .................... And .......... you've lived in Tennessee, how long?
...... you mad?
"Tearing up that poopdeack" SENT me! You are hilarious lmao
At the 1357 mark Ashleigh says why doesn't she no the importance of CPR. CPR wasn't invented until like the 1900s way before this movie is set.
Since you liked the extra songs and slight change of character emphasis, I must recommend the live remake of Aladdin with Will Smith as the Genie. It also has extra songs - especially for Jasmin, and the 'Prince Ali' number is Epic!
I never understood why that movie got so much hate, I enjoyed it.
@@marybrown6128it was better than I expected, frankly
the jasmine song was so disappointing. Aladdin is the only successful male prince character and they basically relegated him in the movie. What a sad day when I saw them weaken Aladddin when he is the only one repping the men on the prince/princesses scale
@snappapop3277 giving Jasmine A song and a little depth is not relegating Aladdin in a movie he's pretty dominant in
@@robhax jasmine always had depth. I can't speak too much as I'm not someone who enjoys spoiling especially on a react channel comment section but she was one of the most popular princesses already. Giving her girl boss anthem did not help the movie
I don’t know I kinda like the original
OH I LOVE THE ORIGINAL
You can like both it's not an either or😊
@@nin29nin this has nothing to do with race. all I’m saying is I like the original better?
@@nin29nin This remake is racist. Ariel is supposed to be a white ginger. Disney ruined Ariel, Snow White, Peter Pan, and a long list of other things because of their left-wing politics.

Hey Hey there Ashleigh. Don't remember the year, but my mother-in-laws best friend was an original mouseketeer. The entire clan wound up with park passes for the park in Orlando. A big old thirtysomething fan of Tigger got to shake hands and get a picture with him. 😂😂Love your reactions. Hope your birthday was a good day. Have a good weekend. ❤
The dresses were disappointing. I think they were trying to make things more realistic but like she's a MERMAID . . . GIVE ME THE SPARKLY DRESS!!!
But Ariel is white .
Too bad
Yall still crying about this shit? Lmao get over it. Its done already you cant do nothing about.

If a mermaid has no tears how did Jack get mermaid tears for the fountain of youth?
Tears don't fall out of their eyes underwater so obviously he had to have captured one and pulled her land. Then bored her to tears with his drunk babbling.
There some things missing from the original. Especially Chef Louie
Since M. Emmet Walsh passed away recent, people would probably recommend you do Blood Simple to pay tribute to him while I personally recommend Wild Wild West 1999. Haha.
Funny how you just saw him recently in both Knives Out and Christmas with the Kranks though. Haha.
