It just sounds right with Stan. The right feel n groove. The guy who came after was technically good but too straight. I don't even know, what Stan does but somehow its right. He plays for the song creating iconic parts that are so integral. Very Ringo in that respect
Great to see Mike and Stan together again doing those wonderful old Heartbreaker tunes. Funny they play these songs back to back since Listen to her heart clearly grew out of Whole lot better, the classic Byrds song that Petty and his band later covered. They both use exactly the same A chord riff.

Saw them in Seattle last evening, great show. They did not play these songs though. A few Heartbreaker songs, some Dirty Knobs songs and some covers. Stan sang his Heartbreaker's cover of Psychotic Reaction!
Looks like I will die without getting to see them play live so thanks for sharing. Love those boys like my own. Benmont is a friend so maybe he can scoop up a couple tix yet.
I don't think Tom "dropped" Stan. My understanding is that they had some disagreements that probably started when Tom did his first solo album which eventually led to Stan leaving the band. They obviously had a fall-out, but I believe Stan is the one who made the decision to leave the band. And honestly, it was probably a good decision on his part as he has become a very successful music producer. From Wikipedia (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers): "Lynch left the group in 1994. His last gig with the Heartbreakers was on October 2, 1994, at the Bridge School Benefit Concert in Mountain View, California. It was immediately following this gig that Lynch left the band due to musical and personal differences with Petty."
Tom gives his take in the Wildflowers documentary. My impression was that Tom wanted to go in some other musical directions and Stan really wanted to stay with their established sound. I know they’d had disagreements for years. I think it was inevitable and for the best but I do love Stan’s drumming and it’s great to hear those old drum fills again.

Saw them at glen helen. You could tell Mike was mad with the crowd/involvement therefore of. Until the end of the set of course. Wish they had a longer set then. It really kicked ass.
I really don't know why stevie nicks never grabbed onto the Heartbreakers and collaborated an album with them. They have performed several times together over the decades.
Campbell & Lynch are legends…cool to see them up there together again! 👏

Yep, they were pretty seriously influenced by The Byrds, and this song is one of the better examples.

Stan didn't like the direction of the music - then Wild Flowers came out and all of the rest of the amazing albums..
