- 🥳Let’s celebrate the great Pierre COCHEREAU together!🎹
-
Organ professors, concert organists, and enthusiasts from around the globe have sent us intriguing improvisations and pieces as a tribute to the renowned organist of Notre Dame, in Paris; all of these pieces are in fact stricly related to the great master thanks to them having had an influence on his work or being influenced by his work.

Theo van Wyk (SA) - Morne van der Westhuyzen "Krishna's dance with Mayura".
Organ details and location: Rieger; University of Pretoria Chapel (SA).

Professor van Wyk has kindly attached an interesting text about the piece he performed: Cochereau's improvisational style, marked by spontaneity and structural creativity, may have been indirectly influenced by a broad spectrum of musical traditions, including those with sophisticated rhythmic frameworks. His improvisations often showcased a variety of rhythmic motifs, syncopations, and dynamic contrasts that resonate with the spirit of rhythmic exploration seen in Hindu music. The piece was the 1st prize winner of the 2022 Stefans Grové National Composition Competition. The Southern African Church and Concert Organists Society sponsored the prize.

Always an honour to my work performed by such amazing musicians.
Stunning performance, Theo!
Congratulations Theo.
Another marvellous performance
Theodore van Wyk is the epitome of humble meets artistic genius. He is selfless in his approach to music education and his dispensation of music knowledge. He will cross the Sahara, climb everest if needs be to ensure that Africa and her young organists culture are represented in all conversations near and far private or on the global stage. He may be Theo to you or Professor to some but to me he is a hero. A musician par excellence. Well done Prof
What a wonderful tribute - and no understatement: bravo!
Magtig!
Rhythmically pulsating with life and harmonically exuberant, a composition that is both compelling and affirming: bravo, maestro, with your captivating performance! A magnificent tribute to the great PC!
