I had a pair of Barricades for more than 7 months. I've played in them a lot, but after only 3 months the upper started to wear down really bad. They also made a strange cheap plastic noise (they still make it today), and they weren't the comfiest shoes, but they were quick and had a ton of grip. I've bought a pair of ASICS gel-res 9 to replace them. I love your videos, they are always very interesting.
I’ve been playing in different pairs of the 2021 Barricade since they came out. Excited to switch over to these! I didn’t think the barricades could get better, glad I was wrong haha
Your review definitely got me interested in the 2023 Barricade. I am currently using the 2021 model (which I love) - ordered and just received the 2023 model last evening. Just trying the 23 model on - it didnt seem as comfy as the 21s - but perhaps I need to break it in a little.
Really liked hearing everything you had to say about the 23’s especially with the comparison of the 21’s. I started wearing barricades just last year with the 21 model and I just got the 2023 model. They feel different when just putting them on, but I’m excited to try them on hard courts. (Saved this till the end but I’m a pickleball player lol). Still a great shoe!
Had to fulfill so many warranties that they got rid of the elastic 😂. Seriously though, I trashed my 21s in 5 months. Heard stories of people breaking them after a week.
Hi Zach, great review. Awesome you got an early release pair. Hope you got a pair of Ubersonic 4.1 as well 😉 Original 21s with moulded upper didn’t work for me. Too painful. Then I tried 21s Parley version with mesh upper which looks similar to these 23s. The 21s Parley is a different shoe as well. Only 1 hour to break in and no pain
I couldn’t get passed the initial in store fit of the 21’s. Although I tried these on and the comfort level to me was night and day. The 23’ version will be the 1st barricades that I’ll finally pick up!
I really liked the 2021 version barricades bought several pair & just went through my last pair so bought the new barricade 13's I think the 2021's wrapped around my foot a little better and felt lower to the ground and had more court feel than these newer versions ; however, I always felt that my heel was too low in in the 2021's which put a strain on my calves the newer version seems to have a little lift in the heel putting me a little more on my toes. These feel very good on my feet & on the court took less than an hour of play to break these in feel very good. when I first put them on my toes were jammed and curled up against the end thought no way I would be able to play in them put after lacing them up kicking the heel back and walking around things settled in and the fit is very good toes no longer jammed. This version and 2021 version best barricades to date and best tennis shoe I have tried to date. (I have narrow feet these fit good)
Definitely peaked my interest. I really liked the 2021 model. The upper was my biggest pet peeve with the shoe. It made a weird squeak that never went away. Sometimes my little toe on my left foot felt rubbing from the material. I don’t feel that on my Vapor 11 (which I love those shoes!). The durability from the outsole was amazing. The grip was almost too good at times. As someone who doesn’t pick up my feet as much as I should, I did trip myself up on grittier hard courts. That’s more on the user than the shoe. Great review as always
hi Zach! I'm looking for wide fit and great shock absorption to preserve back pain...probably barricade is too much on the ground? any other suggestion? the most accurate video ever
Thank you for your informative videos. I have bought three pairs of shoes for my wife and I based on your recommendations/our foot type with out trying any on. Keep up the good work.
Hey Zach will you suggest me these shoes?? And if not which shoes will u suggest me. I am a pro tennis player and i play 4-5 hours a day, i am very fast so i go for comfort...i have Achilles tendonitis too and I rip the shoes in span of two months
I'd love to get an education on some of the terms that you use in your videos. Taylors bunion, dorsal, medial, 2E, snakebite, Achilles, hesi-step, forefoot striker, etc.
Thanks for another great review. Can't wait to get my hands on a pair! Barricades have been my shoe for 5+ years. Recently I noticed shoe wear on the outside of my heal on my dominant foot. This has never happened before. Any thoughts as to why this has stared?
Hi Zach! I've suffered a ruptured achilles and have always been put off by the 2021 iteration of the Barricade because of the pressure and soreness on the achilles. Would these be more suitable/would you recommend them as a solid option for someone recovering from that? Thanks!
Zach, are you getting any reports now - nearly a year after this shoe was released - that folks are having some foot and ankle issues from the Barricade 2023? I see comments popping up online: lack of medial support; foot pain; blisters; toe jamming; top of foot pain caused by the minimal tongue and thin laces; heel pain; etc. Are these anomalies, are are there actual issues with this shoe which may have led to the premature re-design later that same year? Thoughts, Zach?
hi doc, awesome review as always! was thinking of trying out a pair of the new barricades but wanted to know ur opinions first. I’m currently using nike cage 3 and was using asics solution speed ff 2 prior to that. Loved both, but more leaning towards asics. I have a medium arch and medium width feet, and I play all around the court but more aggressive on the baseline. should I stay with solution speed or should I give the new barricade a shot? thanks in advance doc!
Doc, great video as usual. I have the 2021 version, and I lke it because don’t have that lateral rubber that usually tennis shoes has and make presion in the lateral part of my foot, but 2023 version has a rubber in the lateral part, that rubber make more snug the feeling of the shoes in comparisson with 2021 version? Thanks.
its a bit odd that this barricade has thicker cushioning and yet on the bounce test Uber 4.1 has better bounce height. is it cause light strike cushion has better bounce ?
The previous edition dug into my inside ankle bone, and the inner sock style liner made it feel like there was a pebble stuck in my arch. Did this version change those areas of the shoe?
Is there a way to reduce the heel drop from 15mm to closer to 8mm ? Running footstrikes feel a bit clunky compared to my running shoes (8mm heel drop). I like everything else about the shoe. Thanks!
Zach I watched your reviews on ASICS tennis shoes but I think that basketball shoes also could be reviewed. As a question it will sound like: You have videos about tennis ASICS shoes but not basketball shoes, why so?
Only one problem with these shoes. I have already demolished 5 pairs of 2021 model barricades. The outsole wears down to soft foam in three months. This is very fast considering that I play tennis no more than 8 hours a week. Otherwise, excellent shoes ... but damn expensive to take new ones every three months.
I have a pair similar to these and I can't get a good fit with the offset lacing. I don't have wide feet but the shoe is just way tighter than the standard. Also I am not a fan of the outrigger lacing as they tend to break. I wish they would go back to the traditional lacing.
Hey Zach, I was needing help in finding a Vapor pro alternative. Obviously many stores are no longer selling them so I was trying to research something similar. I thought the gel res 9 or these barricades fit the bill but I’m not sure
Hey Zach, miss you here in the S Hills! So I'm looking for a new shoe to replace my old Solecourt Boosts. I've got flat feet, some achilles pain and pretty annoying hallux rigidus. Have tried on the Torneos and Raptors, but both of them have a front eyelet that pushes down on my hallux lump. The SCBs were really soft in that area. Would this be a good shoe for someone with my wonky feet and/or would you be able to recommend some others to try on? Thanks!
can you recommend a good replacement insole for the barricades? I keep wearing out the insoles in the ball of my foot area. I don't really have any experience with replacement insoles so I'm not sure what the best option to extend the lifespan of my shoes is
Great review Zach! I’m getting back into tennis after a very long hiatus and have really enjoyed your many shoe reviews. I am currently using my 11 year old Nike court ballistec 2.3s but the tread is almost completely gone. What shoe would you recommend that is similar to this? Your review of this shoe sounds similar to them. I’m also thinking the ASICS gel resolution 9, as I love my ASICS running shoes. Leaning away from the new Nikes as I find they fit weird. Thoughts?? Thanks!!
Doc, do you know what is the best shoe for forefoot runners for basketball? I use my forefoot alot and sometimes it hurts on my inner forefoot, sometimes especially doing lateral movement. Im using precision 6 and kyrie flytrap 6 but it hurts most on the flytrap 6.
I am a recreational level player and I had a hole develop under the big toe under 8 weeks. I average 5 hours of play per week. Tried to make a warranty claim and @adidas said that was normal wear and tear. From a shoe that had a 6 month outsole warranty to toast in 2 with no resolution. Sad
Zach, the 2021 barricades were unwearable for me as my heel just slipped right out. How does the heel fit in comparison with this new version? Thanks for your great videos as always.
these or the cybersonics? tennis point is running some really good sales right now. i do want a more durable shoe and the barricades seem to be it, but also want to have a more light-weight feel... decisions, decisions
@@FootDoctorZach Would not the bounce height test numbers for this tennis shoe and others like it suggest that they would provide sufficient impact protection for playing basketball? I am looking for an shoe that I can use for both tennis and basketball. Any suggestions?
Zach, do you think that wearing the Barricade 2023 had anything to do and either causing or aggravating my Freiberg disease in my feet? Is there enough forefoot padding and enough room in the toe box for somebody who suffers from this issue? I don’t want to place the blame on the shoe if that’s not the issue. I did not seem to have any pain or discomfort in my balls of my feet prior to wearing this shoe as far as I can recall. What’s your opinion?
@@FootDoctorZach I never considered this when I purchased them as it was not an issue then. Now it certainly is. Would the Lacoste AGLT 23 be any better if I wanted to try to stay with something stable and quick, or am I dreaming? I’ve had to stop wearing the 21s because they dug into my achilles tendon something awful. Wary about getting the 23s, or in fact any Adidas tennis shoe.
