How often does a legendary lead singer like Bruce Dickinson leave a band, return, and be willing to sing the songs recorded in his absence? True class (and respect for the songs).
The fact that Bruce sings a lot of songs from Blaze´s era is the proof that this debate "who´s better" is ridiculous. Both are fantastic singers with different characteristics. Great for us to have more songs from different vibes to listen. Up the Irons!

i have heard blaze sing that song and he ain't as good as everyone thinks he could be on that song. That song may have been written around the time he was in the band (VXI sessions) but that doesn't mean it was written for him to sing on.
Having spent the night watching through some live footage from the X Factour and the Virtual XI tour, and now landing here.. I gotta say, even though the Blaze tours were nice to watch you can really see how much more fun and energy Adrian Smith and Bruce brought to the band. Completely different atmospheres. Too bad they don't play more songs from the X Factor and Virtual, would have loved to hear Futureal, Blood on the Worlds Hands, The Aftermath or even Fortunes of War these days. Tunes they'll probably NEVER play again, so to all of you who caught them during that era: congratz!

I always got the sense he was hired to do music like that album and then Maiden realized that at their core they wanted to make more typical Maidenesque music like Virtual XI and Brave New World.
Blaze was in his prime back in the mid to late 90's. Bruce was in his prime in the early to mid 80's. Bruce in the 90's no longer had the range he once had and by his return to Maiden he had developed a middle-aged hoarse voice that sounds like a different guy except when he's hitting lower notes; he was not even trying hard anymore. So in my opinion Bruce would absolutely not have made Virtual XI better; Blaze's masculine and powerful voice was perfect for the hard hitting songs like Lightning Strikes Twice.

Agreed. I don’t have anything against Janick since he was there to keep the band together when Adrian left, but at the end of the day Murray and Adrian were a killer symbiotic combo. There is a clear difference in the quality of music after Adrian left. It’s no surprise that when he came back that the quality improved, even though a lot of people attribute that to Bruce, which is valid but not really the whole picture.
