Love this song & the "Two Low For Zero" album & I love on the album that it leads straight into "Kiss The Bride" which I'm going to listen to right now from the same concert.
This is a better song than KISS THE BRIDE. I always wondered why Crystal wasn't picked as a single rather than Kiss the Bride. Radio played Crystal alot which supported my theory that the record companies are useless at picking singles.
It was...I picked up a 7" from a vintage store just today. B-side is 'Earn while you Learn'. interestingly it's not listed on Wikipedia as an A side, but it seemed to be a hit in Australia
At this speed it makes it seem a bit throw away. On the album however it's probably the best track, for me at least. One of my favourite Elton John songs!
Would anyone happen to have a recording of one of the other live performances of this song? It was only played live a couple times. Or is this the only known recording?
The drummer sets the tempo so blame Nigel, not Elton. Besides, he didn't go on stage drunk or high until late in the Sleeping With The Past tour 1990. Playing songs live super fast seemed to be a trend in the mid 80s. I'm also a big Rush fan and they performed almost every song in their set at double time during their 1984 tours
***** Its such a great song a damn shame its only ever been performed live just twice. Crystal was a big hit in Australia which is why Elton probably added it to the setlist.
The original Elton John Band- nothing better. Australia 1984- no better place in the world to be.
Love this song. A little fast here Elton lol. I named my first daughter Crystal. Elton is the best!
its a beautiful name!
The early 80's Elton live performances were almost always in very fast tempos, mainly due to his drug use.
Thank god for this song....i could have been named Shannon XD
Always good to go back to hear when Elton played the deep cuts. Remember him playing Lil' Frigerator at Madison Square from this tour.
He’s the best. Hands down.
i was there - first show ever. he wrecked about 4 piano stools - seem to recall one went over the piano even. what a legend !
Thank you so much for the upload. This is my favorite Elton song. I am forever grateful.
One of my fav's but the studio recording is my preference
ANY EDITION IS OUTRAGEOUSLY MIND BLOWINGLY GREATER THEN ALL RECORDED PRIOR 2 THIS
100%. This was waaaaay too fast and chaotic sounding compared to the album

Yessss Elton superb ❤️
My favourite song of his

AMEN! The melodious music is divine.
Saint should've been a hit

My favourite from too low for zero album. Melodious, creative and fun! although this live performance is a tad bit too fast.

Can anyone tell me whatever happened to Gary Clarke? Last I heard he was still in Melbourne? He must be late 50s?
Is this the concert that I taped from FM radio during a TV simalcast back in the day?
Would anyone happen to have a recording of one of the other live performances of this song? It was only played live a couple times. Or is this the only known recording?
1:28...YEAHH GET DOWN!!!!!
Love this song, but it is funny how this performance is ALMOST listenable at 0.75x speed.
That's called cocaine, my friend.
The band had no choice but to keep up.
I kinda like it at .75. Gun
My daughter's name is Chrystal and the cold hard truth is, she is a b!$#h!. It is a beautiful name, her middle name is Rose. 🥀
I love the cocaine fueled double speed performance.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

@@jamesnoble8205 check Central Park concert 😆
@@jamesnoble8205He was drunk onstage in the 70s! He clearly went onstage high before 89.

This wonderful song has only been played live twice that's it. 24th and 25th March Sydney 1984.
michael jagger Is it serious? Too bad, cause it's such an amazing performance!

Its such a great song.
Doesn't sound right. I think it was played during the whole Australian leg of this tour and maybe Hong Kong too.
I was there in Mebourne '84 when he played it, at the Sports & Entertainment Centre. So it was definitely played more than twice.
Even on this medium paced song Elton singing in sped up Coke voice. It’s still good but pretty weird 😂
1:34 photobombed
XD
Wow! No wonder Elton can't keep up with Crystal. She's WAAAAY too fast! XD
Elton with coke is 1000% better
I suppose he's allowed to alter the song.
What can 'ya do?
The album cut was a great song.
The cocaine speed that he played LIVE was....disgusting.
Absolutely ruined it. Tempo too fast!!!
