I've made about 6 or 7 Diddley Bows so far, all using different string gauges, some electric, others acoustic. I even did demonstrations in my kids' music classes when they were in elementary and middle school. Their music teacher in elementary school was really into alternative and homemade instruments.
They really are quite addictive, aren't they? Glad to hear you've passed the knowledge on to the next generation. :)
This worked perfectly! I used wine corks instead of bolts because that's what I had around. I'm doing a. unit on blues in the schools and I love this for kids.
Thanks again.
Glad to hear your diddley bow worked out OK, and I'm really happy to know you're passing this along to another generation, that's super cool! :)
Such a great video. You inspired me to make my own. Good relaxed presentation style and really clear, simple instructions. Thanks for making this.
Thanks a lot for the lesson...on my way to build mine. I'll come back with the result, have a nice one.
Very Groovy my friend! I'm all subscribed now so I can't lose track of you. Looking forward to more content and now......I'm off to diddle my bow!
Many thanks for explaining, how to find the notes for the minor pentatonic scale! Beeing a beginner, I have a question. On my diddley bow I used a fretting template (25" scale) and marked 19 fret positions. Do the notes for the minor pentatonic scale correspond with the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 12th fret on a regular fretting template?
Yes, if the open string is the root then the minor pentatonic scale is 0-3-5-7-10-12. The major scale would be 0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12 and the minor scale would be 0-2-3-5-7-8-10-12. 🙂
Great teaching vid! I just made mine today, then I found your vid which showed me how to find notes. Hoping to play like you.
If i use the shot glass to drink from, could i possibly make an actual Bo Diddley? Cool video, Dave in Trescott Maine.
Might depend on what's in the shot glass... 😄 Glad you enjoyed the video.
I vote for very loud. You can also use a couple of dollar piezos and wire them to a jack. Very freaky sound.
Yep, I use piezos in the slide guitars at my etsy shop...

What letter string do I need ?
I usually use a low E string, but an A string will work also. Most any string will do, but I prefer the lower ones for diddley bows. Originally, people used wire from fences, screen doors or brooms.
6 sting electric guitar?
I've made one so far, here's a video with it...

Is old fence better tone wood than firewood? Hahaha, sorry, poor impulse control.
That's where folks get it wrong... it's all about light refraction... what you want is TAN wood. :)
The best video on how to build a diddley bow i've seen so far 👍
Thank You! I'm glad it was helpful. :)
