    I've made about 6 or 7 Diddley Bows so far, all using different string gauges, some electric, others acoustic. I even did demonstrations in my kids' music classes when they were in elementary and middle school. Their music teacher in elementary school was really into alternative and homemade instruments.

      They really are quite addictive, aren't they? Glad to hear you've passed the knowledge on to the next generation. :)

    This worked perfectly! I used wine corks instead of bolts because that's what I had around. I'm doing a. unit on blues in the schools and I love this for kids.
    Thanks again.

    Many thanks for explaining, how to find the notes for the minor pentatonic scale! Beeing a beginner, I have a question. On my diddley bow I used a fretting template (25" scale) and marked 19 fret positions. Do the notes for the minor pentatonic scale correspond with the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 12th fret on a regular fretting template?

    • @rayobannon
      @rayobannon 11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, if the open string is the root then the minor pentatonic scale is 0-3-5-7-10-12. The major scale would be 0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12 and the minor scale would be 0-2-3-5-7-8-10-12. 🙂

    If i use the shot glass to drink from, could i possibly make an actual Bo Diddley? Cool video, Dave in Trescott Maine.

    I vote for very loud. You can also use a couple of dollar piezos and wire them to a jack. Very freaky sound.

      Yep, I use piezos in the slide guitars at my etsy shop...

    What letter string do I need ?

    • @rayobannon
      @rayobannon 5 років тому

      I usually use a low E string, but an A string will work also. Most any string will do, but I prefer the lower ones for diddley bows. Originally, people used wire from fences, screen doors or brooms.

    Is old fence better tone wood than firewood? Hahaha, sorry, poor impulse control.

    • @rayobannon
      @rayobannon 6 років тому +1

      That's where folks get it wrong... it's all about light refraction... what you want is TAN wood. :)
