  • Join us as we explore the Blaker Mill, a functioning 1790s water-powered mill. Joe Obidzinski, WVU Jackson's Mill History and Heritage Program Coordinator, will lead us into the fascinating process of gristmilling, explaining how massive stones and water power work together to grind corn and wheat.
Learn about the intricate patterns carved into the stones and their roles in producing consistent grinds. Discover smaller versions of gristmills, such as the hand-cranked mill and the ancient mortar and pestle and find out how you can try milling at home.
