Does the Ace Pro not offer timecode? In Adobe Premiere overlay, GoPro shows the time of day, however, the Insta360 Ace Pro shows all zeros at the beginning of each clip
You are correct, no timecode, but does it at least write video in/out metadata based on the internal clock. I am not sure why they don't have it.

TBH I sent the camera back so unsure. In theory yes but whenever I hear that it rarely works. May I ask your use case. For example the pocket 3 has timestamps/code to sync w other cams same with DJI action 4

It has audio issue when using zoom feature on purevideo mode. For instance, when you are recording counting numbers and press zoom in the audio will cut off but this never happened in normal video mode. Lagging issue i notice also on purevideo mode but after format the sd cards, its gone.

I got mist inside the lens of insta ace pro after i use it for about 40 mins recording at 4k 60f
Room Temperature was constant at about 25*C

Oh wow, sounds like the seal was not done right. I would certainly let them know! To me it sounds like a factory issue not a you or environment issue.
Which action camera do you recommend for airsoft where we have high movement and low light gamesites?
So, I do think they make special cameras for airsoft but, I see lot of players with GoPros but I think the ones that are made for airsoft maybe are built into the scope ???? . I don't know a whole bunch about airsoft, but having seen some really awesome videos and the conditions you all play in, I can give you my take. I think there is a pretty cool argument for a 360 camera, just like the idea of being able to pick your angles in post with a 360. Slap it on front of your gone, and lets say some sneaks you from behind, you will actually get it on film too. A 360 degree camera could be a really cool option outside of just a plane old action camera. But if that's not your jam, I think the insta360 Ace Pro is great if only due to the low light. If you are playing in low light alot, and just want to put it in auto and let it roll (which I suggest in your changing light conditions) its a great option. I do tend to lean into the DJI Action 4 in most cases, but, for this use case, I do think the Ace would be the better option.

I came back to this great video youve made because I really wanted to ask you if you would suggest me to buy the DJI Osmo Action 4 to shoot my badminton games(not pov just like the camera in one place). Will I have any overheating issues even with stabilization off and not maxing out the fps and video quality?
I really like the DJI Osmo Action 4 so I don't think you can go wrong with it. I have never had mine overheat but I also have never shot over an hour with it and I live in a colder area. I think if you shoot lets say 4K 25/30 FPS with stability on, you will get about an hour. If you turn off stability I think you can expect about an hour and half. If you drop down to let's say 1080 I don't suspect you will have any overheating issues. Hope that helped! Cheers.
I almost feel like you might be better off with a regular camera that you can fully control instead of a pocket camera. They're all going to have their quirks. But with a full size you can avoid a lot of those issues or control them to where it's manageable
For sure, spot on. I do shoot a lot on my Sony A7C and my ZV-1, hoping to upgrade, but they they are sooooo expensive to do so...I am hoping to get into a 10 bit full frame soon but....its tall coin. I 100% agree with you but I have to say, I am loving my pocket with that log and 10 bit. But yes I miss things like zebras, peaking, aperture control for sure. The only tough thing, I am out in the bush a lot so bringing an expensive full frame is tough both on my mental health as I fear I will damage it and on my back, they weigh a lot you know. Interesting review. But what I don't get: you go on about a lot of great features and then a few (in my view rather minor) issues of the Insta and some of them purely for 8k video and you tell us how important 8k is for you. So far so good. But then your alternative is a camera that doesn't even shoot in 8k? I am confused...
Is that my fault no other action cam or hand held doesn't shoot in 8k. Am I not to own a camera bc others don't? And I don't go on and on about 8k just call them out for it being completely unusable in my use case. I mean the camera produces video quality and color that looks like 💩. Is that not enough? It's a camera that could be great and I'm not sorry for telling it how it is at all. Fanboys are so blind I love it!
@@HillPhantom I just want to understand the reasoning behind the review, to be able to understand if the issues are relevant for me. If you do not need 8k (which seems the case because the alternative camera doesn't shoot 4k), why do flaws in the insta, that basically only apply to 4k, impact your decision so much? If you would use the insta in 4k, like the alternative camera, it would not impact you at all. I mean of course you can say that if you can only use 4k the osmo is better over all, but that is what I am trying to understand. For me the osmo wouldn't provably be an alternative anyway, because I think I prefer a more rugged camera when out and about in the forrest.
@@hr3178 you are making a massive assumption . Where did I say I needed 8k? I said I would like to have it, and if you must know its so I can do movement in 4K. Do I need it, no, do I want it yes. Sorry not sorry. The flaws don't apply to 4K only, or 8K only, they apply to the entire camera. I get it you disagree, but don't discount my view bc is massively different than yours. Do a video, rebut it mate! I am struggling why you think the 8k was was a deciding factor for me, FYI, it wasn't. It was a nice to have, in fact the deciding factor was more to do with the low light ( AI sucks on it by the way as well) and the flip up screen. That's awesome p4 its not an alternative for you, it IS in my use case of which I point out as well. Would I take this snowboarding or jumping out of a HELI, no, but would I take it in addition to do things like talking heads and B rolls, yes, and I state that in my review of the p4. I get you fanboys get hung up on stuff, I don't, I am actually happy you love it, and your eyes see things differently as if we were all the same, it would be a boring world. But I am not salty bc you think the Insta has no problems, I think its great you can put up with the problems. Bc as its stands and if you have seen any of my other reviews, DJI and GoPro have issues too! I have no issue saying the P4 is my favorite pocket camera, all the while saying, its also NOT AN ACTION Camera. @@HillPhantom Yes, I might have got the wrong impression from your video and maybe drawn the wrong conclusions. I got the impression that you were very disappointed about the delay for 8k and that it was one of the main flaws you complained about. It was late when I checked your video, so I might have missed some of the other stuff or might have just got the wrong impression. But up to the point that you showed the alternative you were going for, it made all sense to me, and then it suddenly didn't anymore. ;-) Because I was under the impression, that your issue was mainly with the delay at 8k on the screen. And that didn't make sense to me anymore, when you went for a camera that didn't even do 8k. But, as you said, I might have gotten the wrong impression here or made the wrong assumption.
However, you also got the wrong impression of me, because I am not Insta fanboy at all. I don't have one. I have some really old GoPros (3 and 4) and they will need some replacement one day. So I was really interested in the Insta360 Ace Pro, because on paper it has some really nice features that I would be interested in. So sorry if you got the wrong impression, that I want to defend the Insta360 Ace Pro, because all I want is to understand your review, if it is relevant for me and my use case or not.
And I have no issue at all with you not liking the Insta360 Ace Pro. You generally learn more from the negative reviews than from the positive reviews. Of course you have to check if the issues mentioned are relevant for your use case or not and if the reviewer actually knows what he/she is talking about. I mean you seem to know a bit about this stuff. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother responding here. As you said, everyone has a different use case, so they need to find what is best for them. This is what I am trying to do by watching different reviews. E.g. for me, like for you, 8k is a nice to have, not necessarily a need. 4k would be already a huge step up and my hardware might actually have difficulties to handle even 4k. 🤪
So thank you for you response here and in no way I wanted to piss you off. I just wanted to make sense out of it, and I guess I understand you review better now. And I didn't watch your review of the P4, because as I said, it is just not an alternative for me. I am more looking into the action cam alternatives like GoPro and DJI Action 4. But of course, a lot of the points you brought up, can be relevant for me. A camera can have the best features on paper, if the image quality is not good, it is not worth it. At the end of the day, that is the main factor for a camera.

That's a tough call, I think you would be happy with either, but better yet, if you can do it, WAIT for the next generation to come out, we should see a new camera by both DJI and GoPro this summer. If you can't wait, and you forced me to pick, I would say the GoPro 12 but really depends on the use case and what your style and tastes are....for me, I just can't get past the insta lack of 10 bit and the color profiles are not my style.

Which action camera should I buy. Insta 360 Ace Pro, Gopro 12 or DJI Osmo Action 4?
Honestly if you can wait, we should see new cameras from both GoPro and DJI this summer. If ou can't wait it really depends on use case and personal preference. For me, I prefer DJI Action 4 due to the color and sensor. I am just partial to the video DJI produces, followed by GoPro and then last place for me would be Insta360. However, in low light I think the Insta360 edges out the DJI slightly and certainly for low light stability. So really depends on what you are doing, by eyes and style I still prefer DJI tho. CHeers mate! Good luck. I am currently on the wait for the next gen cameras we should see by Aug/Sept.

Build.... that's such a good and tough question and def a matter of personal opinion. But, I will give you what I would do, from my viewpoint and opinion. If you are good with manual mode and color correction, I would go with the DJI Action 4. If you get the wireless mics, you can get two and wirelessly hook them up to the DJI Action 4. But end of day I just prefer the video it produces and its 10 bit as compared to the GoPro, Go3, or the AcePro. However, there is a VERY strong argument for the benefits of the flip of screen on the Ace Pro in ease of framing. Else, you will have to connect phone to DJI and use phone for framing. Not a big deal but, it sure is convenient to have that flip up screen. I will say mics are a bit sketchy for the ACE pro, and hooking all the bits and pieces you need to the ACE makes it a pretty bulky deal. But if you are NOT going to light the inside of the car, and you will be driving around relying on natural light, and shooting in auto mode instead of manual, I tend to lean towards the ACE. It just does a really good job in different lighting conditions. I honestly think you would be happy with either. Oddly, while I the quality of video from the DJI, that flip up screen in that scenario for me, would be very nice to have built in. But........the microphone issue you will have to work out. So if you can figure out good sound, I would prob lean, oddly, towards the ACE. Now I just got the Go3, actually today, so I will have reserve my opinion but, if you can afford it, I would get it AS WELL. It will just give a great "B" camera, you can do really cool and unique shots with, super discreet, and so far the mic built in, really isn't that bad at all. I will have a review of it soon. But, I would start with the ACE then maybe pick up the Go3. It also keeps all you cameras in the same ecosystem and color profile which is huge for post. Esp if you don't want to mess with color grading.
I have DJI Mic 1 and I am not gud with color correction and will use in auto mode : do u think I should go for ace pro???
@@HillPhantom by the way I have ZV E10 camera as well so can u make a video on your channel on how to set up one camera in the car and do an interview. Also think this is a great youtube idea lot of youtubers didn't think of
@@buildgoodbreakbad the only issue I can see with the ZV is stabilization, but you could always do this in post for sure just need to be aware of the crop. My only issue is I have never done an interview so I am not so sure I would be the best one to consult for that type of situation.

Ah man, so, what is the use case if may ask? Both have plus's and minus's and sometimes depending on use case, one is stronger than the other. For example underwater, GoPro all day, Color, go pro all day, vlogging Ace All day, low light, Ace all day.
Yeah the pocket 3 is so clean took it to Mexico and really liked it! Might have to make a video about that soon!🍵

I’m on my 3rd replacement of the ace pro. And the 3rd one have a major defect light aura mist. Sad to say but it’ll be going back. I might just get the action 4

Hmmm 🤔, I have seen those glowing reviews that don’t mention the glowing lights. I only want a camera for recording daytime motorcycle rides and roads, dirt and tarmac. So not concerned about glowing lights or the odd green flares, I need good quality footage, reliability, good battery life and ease of use. Is this the camera for me? Recommendations?
Most glowing reviews are sponsored by Insta 360, its a massive issue IMO on UA-cam right now. I can assure you I won't sell out. Sadly my recommendation you may not like. Wait. Hi. I will be honest IDK much about dash cams and have not used them in that manner. My thoughts tho is the insta might be a good way to go bc it shoots in 8K, and also has a lossless digital zoom. This way, if you needed to zoom in you could and if you shot in 8K, you could always zoom in in post if needed without it getting all grainy and blurry. Cheers!

@@solowheels6837 awesome. So I tend lean into the ACEPro just because I think the flip of screen is very valuable for vloggers. I think if I had to personally pick between the two for that use case, I believe I would go with the ACEPro
@@solowheels6837 I like DJI action 4 bc of the D log and the ability to use the DJI mic 2. It make is really easy to use. One of the drawback of the Ace is you have to get an adaptor to make a mic work. I like the action 4 but I did have some small issue with that camera as well with lots of micro jitters. It's still prob my favorite looking action camera. End of day none are perfect. I think if you are ok with the way the Insta360 Ace Pro looks and you are not into color grading its a good choice still. If you want to color grade and you want a compact vlogging set up I would got with the DJI Action 4. For me, it would come down to the AcePro and the DJI, I would pass on the GoPro personally. The flip up screen is super compelling for vlogging though, I just don't really like how you have to attach the mic to the AcePro.
What settings did you use?
Tried lots of different setting but manly just auto letting camera do the work.
DJI action 4 or Insts360 Ace pro? I want to make smooth instagram videos for capturing nature videos and shoot videos of the places i goto
If you are good with going manual, and color grading by shooting in DLOG with the DJI, IMO, is the way to go. However, if you want to keep it in auto, and not worry about color grading, I would say Insta 360 Ace Pro knowing you use case. The low light is really good with the ACE, and you can match it with the DJI but you have to go into manual exposure mode, shot in DLOG, and then color correct in post. Both have comparable stability so I think the smoothness will be good with either, with the exception of low light stability in the ACE pro is better than the DJI. If you in low light, I would consider are you going to be still or moving? If moving, the ACE is better. But, overall I would still personally go with the DJI.
Noticed the back focusing right off the bat. Color science is way off and the mist I noticed recently, literally the same thing that happens w the pocket 3 w the wide angle.

Thanks for the watch and comment. I just got back from a trip testing the Pocket and some filters. I too though from what I saw on the wide angle lens for the pocket the quality seemed to dip. I have not tried that wide angle do to that at all, but now I must! Appreciate tip, F the SHills brother.

What I find ironic is that at least 75% from what I have seen of those who actually spent their money on their devices, complain about the same things we do.
The poor quality footage, the issues with delays, build quality (list goes on and on). Sadly people are sheep, they don’t wait for the actual reviews to come out and they blind buy.
I’m a photographer so quality for me is at the upmost importance. Novelties like Ai making me a cartoon is cool but that’s like 23 on my list lol. And just think, the rumor mill is saying that they want to charge a monthly fee for the ai. Not sure if it’s true or if there are updates on that but nope!

Could not agree more. But, alas we have folks like you and a hanful of others who aren't fanboi's rather just want to believe companies will do right by us. I called out their bull shit after the X2/x3 and the false advertising that is 5.*k video which isn't explained it's only in the globe not formatted video. They weren't happy and blamed it on people not reading.

Im planning to buy the ACE PRO but I still do have my ONE RS but the core broke😢 I want to film football videos like POV videos and to film badminton videos(non pov ones) I need some guiding about this if I should still save up for the ACE PRO or just buy the ONE RS core or other cams instead???
Tough call, I haven't used the ONE RS and don't know a whole bunch about it, but I do like the idea of POV shots using a 360 camera, its just going to give you a bunch more options is post as in to reframe it how you want. I prefer the DJI Action 4 over the insta ACEPRO but, that just person preference as I like the colors with DJI product a bit better. I think you will be happy with either but I really do think for what you trying to do, the ONE RS might be a good way to go.
@@HillPhantom It's an honor to get a reply from you that instantly😊 From my experience Im actually not a really big fan of the 360 module of the ONE RS I actually sold it for the reason that I dont really edit that good when it comes to 360 footage but still ONE RS is a one of a kind most versatile cam I've seen til today. I mostly use the 4K BOOSTED lens and for me the quality is superb for a lego like camera living in a tropical country overheating isnt even a problem for the ONE RS and thats a big advantage.
@@user-rz7io1ch4q oh Sir, I am just a regular person, but thank you mate! I am really interested in the ONE RS and I wish I could help more, just not experience with it. Honestly when it comes to action cams, I like DJI, but, its just personal preference. What are you most comfortable with. I like insta's software better than DJI and GoPro, and if you are not that great at editing the AI edits from INSTA are really really good! I just have the Pocket 3, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE, and DJI drones, and a Sony Full frame. All of them shoot in log so it helps with the edit. But....I also use the insta360 X3 and the insta360 Go 3. The flip up screen and low light of the Ace Pro, make it a really compelling option especially if you not great at editing, INSATA has the best build in editor IMO. Cheers!

@@HillPhantom I sure am considering the DJI A4 in my list and debate of what to buy but I do think comparing the Insta360 ONE RS Boosted 4K Edition to the newest lineup of Gopro and DJI the RS wont be able to compete with those big boys.
Does it freeze? A4 is solid and if ace pro is at least reliable. Anything is better than a GoPro.
Honestly no freezing at all in my three weeks with it, while my GoPro prob froze um 10 times during that period. In that regard, and many others, its solid.

Good video and have just done a review myself having got the camera to try. Key for me was the sudden ISO changes whilst filming. Not overly impressed with the camera and have told Insta this and returning it. Currently been using the Osmo Action 4 for the last 5-6 months for the majority of my filmmaking and is pretty good. But also not without its issues. Actually thinking about going back to GoPro in particular the Hero12 now it has had the new firmware update.

I understand GPro has a log profile now but I still think its 8 bit if I recall? Sounds like we need a quiver mate, GoPro good for this instance, DJI for this, Insta for that lol. I have to say I love my Pocket 3 bruv, but I wouldn't dare use it as a true action camera.

I have a Hero 10, and I was considering buying the Ace Pro. All the reviews I saw were saying that it is good in low light. However, the first thing I noticed was that the video quality of the Ace Pro is not on par with the GoPro, although it is brighter in low light. I think I just have to wait to see if GoPro will release a software update to fix the low light issues so I can buy the Hero 12 instead.
I think that is a solid choice for sure! Especially with GP log profile !

I was sold on the Insta360 Pro, but, I'll think I'll go for the DJI Pocket 3 and wait for the Insta360 Pro camera to get a little better like adding 10-bit color and fixing the close up focusing issues. The 8K delay of the Iinsta360 Pro does not bother me but I'd love to see an 8K at 60fprs for example and 4K at 240fps.

Finally a review that seems genuine. However, i am a bit confused as to what i should buy. I plan on car camping, and i want to record video during the day and some at night. Id like the camera to be somewhat portable and mountable inside my car, outside my car, and on my body. Id also like the option of adding an external mic (preferably wireless), what do you suggest?
Hey warrior thanks for you kind comment. So much of this is personal preference. My opinion if I was going to buy something it would be the Pocket 3, but if that is not rugged enough I would go for the DJI Action 4. However, the Action 5 should come out this summer, that's what I am waiting on. But if you need one now, Pocket 3 is incredible and the DJI Action 4 is IMO the best action camera option right now. But it all comes down to what you like, we all see differently. Also, if you color grade, 10 bit vs the 8 bit of the insta is night and day. Hope that help a bit mate.
@HillPhantom thanks for your reply, I am seriously considering the insta360 because a bit of my footage is also going to be taken during the peak hours of the morning and into the late evening. So looking at how well the insta360 captures lowlight is seriously swaying me, however the price, and what seems to be a lackluster amount of options for a Bluetooth mic connection for the 360, is swaying me towards the action 4. Is it true that the insta360 doesn't support Bluetooth or USB c wireless mic connectivity?
@@warriorlight793 hey and I think that's a great use case for sure. I would only say, not to muddy waters but, DJI in log, is pretty awesome in low light as well. But I think if you want to pull out and shoot, OR, you are moving a bit, INSTA is a clear winner for low light with movement, its rather impressive! I know its pretty much no go with bluetooth but USC c, I have heard folks are getting them to work. I bought the adaptor and used a rode mic so I can't say with certainty a straight USB c mic will work, but I do know, some have gotten them to work. I lean towards DJI, but if im honest for low ligh fishing in my case, I would really like to have the Insta for that, just pull it out and shoot, the DJI will take a bit of fiddling which in the moment, not so great you know. Once I win the lotto I will have both lol. Cheers mate.

I have the Insta360 ONE RS with both 4K Boost and 1-Inch Leica lens. With FlowState stability on, it always has a delay on the screen, how much delay depends on the setting you can choose yourself (low/mid/high). So that's nothing special actually. When doing action stuff, mount it on a car (me), motor/helmet, selfiestick during skiing, nobody cares about that delay. And for vlogging there are so many better options...
The bright light flares actually look terrible, that would be a dealbreaker to me. Have you made sure you cleaned the lens?
Hi. Yea lens was clear. Delay is ok for that for sure but once you turn the camera toward another doing action sports or try to film ANYTHING other than POV, it's a no go. Odd, I don't have a delay on most of my other action cameras to include the GoPro 9 which is four years old, but I get it only 4K. I think the biggest thing is they didn't expose this or mention it at all. Par for them though with Insta360 shady ways. I disagree I think vlogging on an action camera today is perfectly acceptable and many many do it. Cheers!

While I only shoot in 4k or 5.3k so for my use case, if it happens to me, it's not a big deal, however you have me curious on this. I'm not a gambling man, but I would bet Insta will come out swinging with upcoming firmware updates. You nailed it though, we all have different use cases and expectations in terms of what are the big hot buttons in each camera we get. That said great review... you do you cool dude! ha ha ha

Still on GP7 because it works, been WANTING this to be "the one", will be waiting for something better, even though the GP7 is crap comparatively, it's not broken...... if this was 10 bit as you mentioned, I might have tried.... the DJI action 5 probably going to kill it, because DJI looks to be on a mission.....

@@HillPhantom insta360 makes great products, however, they all seem to be missing a few things here and there that totally ruin it, and I think I learned my lesson and waited for this one to settle. I recall speaking with them to see if they will issue firmware fixes for previous items, and they kind of brushed it off like an established brand..... some devices have great potential, but lacking the "it" factor that DJI provides in droves like the pocket 3, which is not a perfect device, but sure as heck a lot more polished. The old saying goes, if you're going to do it, do it right.
@@CharlieVN yea I have used insta cameras for year, I actually loved the Go and Go2, the x through the x3. But as I get more into this and the camera thing, I have just changed a bit as I can no longer stand the color the insta's produce. But I adore so many things about them as well, the go series, though I wish we had 4K in the Go3, that form factor and how it works I LOVE LOVE LOVE. I think form factor they are the leader as well. And don't get me started on their software, it dominates anything DJI or GoPro has, I actually wish they would do more with there templates for stories but overall I Think they have the best software hands down. Perhaps just I am changing, as I learn more and more, and I fall in love with 10 bit and log. Im no hater, I am rooting for the insta but, I agree, I am having a love affair with the Pocket 3 right now, and I must admit, I did order the Action 4 as I couldn't wait for the 5 and had to spend some money before the 1st lol. But keeping in that ecosystem, DJI drone, DJI action camera, DJI Pocket, and then my Sony with in S-Log line up well and makes color grading and such so much easier.

Yea, at longer than 15 inches mine was very blurry, QC at insta is suspect, but to be fair, it is at DJI as well. I too think it was a huge mistake launching this while it was still half baked. I mean if you want to vlog on this, you 18 accessors and have things hanging off of it. Its just too much for me.
Thanks for your honest review. I have the Ace Pro and I love several of the new features (flip screen, low light, much better photos - 36MB in 16:9 ratio). However I have been disappointed in the Video quality in 4K. Im not interested in 8K, but I was expecting premium quality in 4K/30. When using H265 Codec, I found the video quality inferior many times, forcing me to revert to the old faithful H264. Also, the 'Lossless' x2 Zoom - isn't lossless. I found the video quality drops to something between 2.7K and 1080 FHD resolution. I understand the theory of a 8K sensor, cropping in double, to maintain 4K resolution, however I don't believe this when I compare the results. I would be very interested if others also found the same when using H265 and x2 zoom. Hope to hear back from other Users. Thanks.

What else should i consider? I was about to purchase one. Mainly for traveling and doing hyperlapse and time-lapse. Maybe mounting one in an engine bay or wheel well. I figured its the best action camera at the moment. My gopeo 6 gets about 6min of charge. 😆
You can do alot in six minutes lol...jk jk that sucks. So its all personal opinion but I have to say I still like the DJI Actin 4, but having that said I do believe we will see a new action cam from DJI (the action 5) this summer. IF you can wait man, I would, I am, for the next generation action cameras. I will admit I am a bit of a DJI fan boy, I just like the color and 10 bit over 8 bit, its NOT without its own issues but I do think the image/video quality out of the DJI is top, followed by GoPro, then the Insta. Just my 2 cents tho ....

But have you installed the update that addresses the issue? I have almost no latency in 4k60. Only with 120fps i have about 0.5s latency.
Also about the "overexposure": Have you turned off max iso on the GoPro? Otherwise it will not go higher with the iso than your limit is set to. I think this is the main difference here why the GoPro exposes differently. Cameras usually tend to overexpose when it is dark. On better real cameras you have different modes for that if you are not shooting in manual.
@@derTommy how does any delay make shooting better mate? half a second, second, two seconds, all horrible. It makes it unusable off a tripod for me and in fact dangerous for what I do. But hey if you are willing to put up with it, and it does not bother you, have at it. This is just one of like 10 reason I am returning this trash can.

@@derTommy Hi Tommy. Yes all updated, and the max threshold where set the same on the GoPro and Ace. I had a auto iso, and max iso of 1600 on both for those shots. But I do understand the senors are not the same and appeatures are different as well so it makes sense why the insta is letting more light in. I just don't think the camera, with its HDR and internal processing is yet making the correct decisions on indoor light personally. I mean pop a ND filter on your golden, just don't think you should have to indoors and sadly no ND filters for this camera yet I have seen. I don't see any latency on this camera only in 8K with stability on. Take stability off, no delay, which is fine if you want to stablize in post but you will get the crop but crop at 8K isn't bad if you are on a 4K timeline. If I liked the image this camera creates, I could look past the 8K delay issue for sure. Just not my taste unfortanly.

Aww too bad dude, I actually took my camera and went to my pot lights in my house to recorded them, I'm not getting the same results as you, hmm... weird. I did pot lights, shaded lights and huge fluorescent lights, the only type of light that came close to what you're getting are these crazy 8000 LED fan lights for workshops but not bad like what you're getting. As for the 8K I have noticed the lag when using stabilizer, I think this 8K is way early in the game and will be fixed. But I'm going to argue this, I would rather have something then nothing from it's competitors. Funny you brought up the close focusing issue, because you're a fan of that Conspiracy Camera guy, you did see his follow up video with the DJI A4 right? he had a close up filter on the DJI that's why it was more clearer then Ace Pro lol not sure why he did that. Apparently this is due to the large sensor size of both of these cameras, so both DJI A4 and the Ace Pro has the same focus length lol I'm keeping mine mainly because of that low light feature, that's a big one for me. I tested the a gimbal on it tonight and it actually looks even better if you can believe that, I'll post the video tomorrow. Might want to hold off on the Pocket 3, check out Roo's latest review on the Pocket 3, new problem that you might want to consider ;) Good luck with the Pocket 3 man.
Man super glad your loving it! The light issue I've noticed with others but it's very encouraging you could not reproduce the results. Maybe I just got a lemon. I saw Roos review, ended up getting pocket 3 last evening, so far I love it. But yes super delicate but I'm not going to slam that screen like most. Like Roo I gentle flip lol. But I hear you, when I hold it it reminds me of my grandma's delicate tea cups my big hands could never hold lol. I think it's just folks eyes and styles. Heck long as we are all out there exploring and filming I love it! No hate on the insta just not for me and I fully mean I look forward to their fixes in future. Maybe even I'm a year buy it again. For now though gonna wait on a new action cam. No.way I could use the pocket as an action cam tho ....

All the issues you mentioned are true, but i am not getting that light issue you first mentioned. I just tried it at a bunch of different lights in my house but didnt get that. Was it maybe a specific setting you used? I used 4K 30 and 60 with Wide and Dewarp for my test, didnt see this issue 🤷
Yea I have heard that as well from others, I think my camera was just a lemon. It was 4k 30 auto settings for that shot on DeWarp.

On the other hand i think Insta is being smartasses and are keeping a bunch of features off the camera on purpose. As soon GP or DJI comes up with the next best, Insta will be like "oh look, this firmware update brings you dlog and 10bit and and and". That wouldnt surprise me at all...

I think I am have pretty much decided to move to the DJI ecosystem seeing as I have thier drones and the pocket now. I think putting them all in D Log will just make it easier in post. I am super worried about GoPro as a company, I am not even sure they will be around in the next 2 years if they don't step up thier game to compete with both DJI and insta. I did hear one UA-camr, who is way more a camera scientist than I am, say something about why the could not do 10 bit with this camera due to the AI chip. IDK, he seems very knowledgeable, so unsure if that is true or not. I still use my Insta x3 for snowboarding I kinda wish DJI would come out with a small 360 camera.

A couple of months later and our prediction came partially true. After the last 2 or 3 firmware updates the camera got so much better. Many features were indeed unlocked (different hdr modes, zoom modes, exposure and sharpness modes and some more stuff) and many bugs were fixed. I think Insta maybe shot themselves in the foot a bit by releasing the camera too soon and paying too many youtubers for reviews, it gave the camera a bit of a negative aura to it. That aside though ive been using the camera for nearly 4 months now (or 5?) and had zero issues with it. I do campervan, mountain bike and motorcycle videos with it, with the occasional vlog and landscape videos/photography, and until now it has worked flawlessly everywhere. After the firmware updates i can finally and surely recommend this little camera to everyone looking into it
Excellent points again. That lens flare was shocking! Far too many reviewers on UA-cam are sponsored and biased these days and many consumer brands are releasing unfinished products with features that don't work well just to put it on the spec sheet. I have had that last issue with GoPro, especially the Hero 12. I posted many videos of its reliability issues since all the hardcore GoPro fans didn't want the world to know. Thankfully, most of those issues were fixed but it still isn't perfect. As good as a GoPro will ever get though and now for the most part I am finally happy with it. I did change the settings though since the video quality out of the box didn't look good to me. Once I did that and realized the limitations of action cameras I am pretty happy with it but there are definitely things GoPro needs to fix. The Hero 12 is finally almost the perfect action camera. Since my first impressions with it were so bad though, it isn't used as much as my others but I'm slowly starting to use it more.
Man that is great to know, I wrote off GoPro years ago, but I am starting to warm up to the idea I may need to give them another shot! It's also good they actually provided a fix instead of well, just tying to take down folks exposing errors like some other companies. THank you for letting me know, this makes me want to take a look at the 12!
@@HillPhantom The Hero 10 is a good budget option too. I got it brand new on Amazon for $230 in the e commerce packaging and out of the box it is more reliable. The video quality is just as good as the 12 and stabilization is almost identical.

I saw some light issues that looked exactly like your results on my GoPro hero 11 black. I cleaned the lens and they went away. 🤷♂️
Yea good call, I thought the same, smug, or grease maybe, so I did clean the lens. To be fair it was on auto settings and I think it just tends to over expose and they need to work on how it processes light in auto, which I assume they will address with an update. The 8k delay issue seems extremely sane from a technical perspective. A lot of people have full blown PCs/laptops that cannot realtime stabilize 8k video. Of course this little camera wouldn’t be able to. I think it is an unfortunate hardware design shortcoming as they could’ve given you a preview without stabilizing, but record stabilized with proper internal data bus and buffer memory design. No one is going to notice a 2 second save delay. I think the framing issue is somewhat not too big because these are very wide angle lenses so precision on a shot isn’t 100% critical and the situation mentions crops anyways; so crop.
The light aura issue does seem pretty serious. Maybe only not so big of a problem if it only happens in low light. This is bad because this supposedly a “low light capable” action camera, but I find all action camera not up to the task.
Yea. I guess my take is, why launch something ( 8K) just for a headline if its not ready (IMO of course). The 2 second delay isn't about the viewer for me at least, its about movement whilst using the camera. If you have every, tracked anyone, hard deal, if a delay on uneven ground or worse, a cliff.
in one year, DJI will release the action 5 with the same 1-inch sensor used in Pocket 3...I'm taking now the P3 and as action cam I will wait for action 5. Ace pro is nice but it shows a too heavy over processed look...

Thank you, I do experience issues as well, especially storage errors on the app, despite my phone having ample space, also I put an ND filter, could have been the wrong one,(I used a polarized lens) I'm still learning, but the video footage was useless, all white .
Aloha! Just subbed! I love your dog and hat! That sounds like it overexposing. If I may ask what ND filter number did you put on, and what where you settings, where you in manual? If its all white that typically mean you just need to step up on the ND filter say from a 16 to a 32, or for me in full sun a 128.

@@ChewysRides so if its not in manual and its in auto, then you certainly just be seeing white. Perhaps try to factory reset and then do it again. Question was it white looking in the flip up screen when you were filming or did it look normal?

I returned mine too. The image quality was just bad compared to my other cameras. Nothing looked sharp or detailed and at night I got those strong halos around lights. For my channel, this camera is unusable.

I believe the sensor is the same size as other similar products, thus expecting 'real' 8K out of this camera could let you down. 8K from a full frame camera is drastically different than this. 4K on this camera is good. You could use 8K when you want to 2x zoom on the go. So, imho, 8K is something good to have. It should not be the main selling point of the product. Light flare is also common, especially in HDR situations. For me, it is not a major flaw. I believe it's still a good product
All great points. But with much respect, you are overlooking why many of us want 8K and that is to shoot for and edit in 4K. If it lags on an action scene, that is not good. This will give us the ability to do a lot in post with movement for example and zooms in a 4k timeline. I agree its not the main selling point but is a point they rest on when selling it. My issue with HDR is its forced in all the popular FPS's. For me, that's again not great for post work. But the biggest issue for me, is the color and the lack of 10 bit. I understand my use case is different than the average user but there are many of us out here that want a compact that can produce professional results. I think it can for sure, but within confines. That's fair as I ended up returning the Insta but not fully correct as I ended up with the DJI Pocket 3 and Action 4 which IMO both dominate Gpro. Will say using GoPro software I personally prefer insta's software way over GPro and DJI software is prob the worst in regards to editing but I don't use those I use other editing packages so for me that's a non issue. But all for what ever works for others! I'm hoping GoPro steps up as I fear they won't be around in a few years if they don't.
@@HillPhantom yes, I'm the end whatever works, I still think the GoPro footage is better than the action4, and if you use GoPro labs firmware it's even better, you can up the bit rate to 200, disable noise reduction, switch to an even flatter profile(which even widens the gap between over the action4) you can set the 180 rule to be automatic so you don't have to worry about that... and much more. I like using davinci resolve so these settings make it so much nicer to color grade.

If I only had one (think there is an argument for a 360 camera eventually mainly for your B roll) I honestly would lean into the DJI Action 4. It has superior color and video quality overall. And I think better low light if you are ok shooting in log and doing some color grading in post. You can just control the noise a bit more with the DJI then letting the AI work on the insta360. If you just want to leave it in auto mode, the ACEPro has a slight edge over DJI in regards to low light. But in day light, dusk, morning...... all day DJI. If I was you homie, I would purchase the DJI Action 4.
Not to throw a wrench in it, but the other option is the Pocket 3 for that kind of work. There are a few moto heads/vloggers who I think they say they are rollers??? Anyway if you search it up it can give you a good idea of what using a Pocket would look like as well. But it's a bit more expensive as well and delicate, but its even better in low light and day light as it has a 1 inch sensor. Cheers mate!

Is it worth it, I just am not sure, I am in same position, I have the x3, and am so on the fence if I will upgrade. I guess you missed the entire first part huh? :). I am not at ALL disingenous when I say, if this is for you, and you like it, I am amped for you. Maybe you missed the other part about how everyone eyes and styles are different. Perhaps you missed the part about how imporant your use case is to the decision. In fact I stated I am jelous as I wished it was more in my taste. Then go on to gush on the postives. But yea, im not a "disingenous" person in the last mate. But yes if a family or friend asked I would not recommend this product based on my opinions and the faults I point to after the postives. In fact I would argue that is being the opposite of disingenous. If I say, I love x, y, z you should get it, but really feel they shoudn't, or kept the faults or true opinion away from them, wouldnt you think that is a better definition of that word? I got to keep it real. As much as I LOVED many things about it, there were a few things I could not look past. BTW my use case is also fishing, I mentioned I decided to wait on replacing my older GoPro :), for that use case.

I'm kind of pissed that I bought this camera after all those sell-out videos. I'm getting nasty lens flare at night like this Green Dot from headlights and street lamps. I ride a motorcycle while I film. I can also pretty much get very similar quality night video out of my GoPro Hero 11 the only difference is I have to stabilize the video in post from the GoPro. I can tell you %100 every Gopro vs Ace video I watched for low light testing nobody set the gopro settings for low light video. They just used basic out the box settings. If Gopro made a preset with optimal settings for low light that could auto adjust in a small and specific range they would have a "pure video" mode. I will say the Ace Pro crushes it with the low light stabilization but the effect can be had in the Quick app.
All solid points. And I agree with you. At the end of the day the low light on all these cams still looks too noisy and the Pro while it stabilized well, I can't focus worth a lick in low light close up. Too much hype to many sellout. I am shocked at all the folks I respected, come to find out they are just shillers to corporations
I am in the same boat with insta 360 flow. It is not working great with my Galaxy S22.. the service desk is saying there is no issue, I just need to change focal length (Idk what I can change when I am already using 1x) or my ohone 😂. All thoses youtubers were saying flow and Ace are so amazing.... I am glad that I didnt buy Ace and flow together 😂

I just got mine. I am having an issue with the LOW stabilisation mode. The shot jumps at the end of a movement. Really disappointed. And yes, the Rave Reviews, it seems were all just rubbish. Thanks for your video!

2:09 - There's a difference between an product promotional video after embargo lifts and an actual review. Many reviewers doesn't shy away from negative reviews, in fact Insta360 encourages to ask for feedback from consumers and product reviewers
2:27 - the lens is not even able to focus! LMAO. In comparison, GoPro Hero 12 minimum focus distance is 12 inches. Ace Pro is 15.6 inches.
3:16 have you wiped the lens with microfiber cloth? Smudges are mostly like oil-based from your hands. Regular cloth will not do justice in cleaning it.
3:39 having to record an 8K resolution that is stabilized is a feat of its own. Of course there should be a delay. Meanwhile, my GoPro 12 is overheating and shutting down at 4K 30.
4:30 are you implying you're using an action camera function like a normal camera? It's an action camera for a reason, the stabilization is there so regular folks won't have to do complicated tasks like stabilization in post. The flip-up screen isn't for monitoring your shots, its for one-time reference when you frame your shots so that you can mount your camera and point to your scene correctly.
Insta does not care about feedback, fully disagree. For sure it has a really bad focus issue. No smudges. 8k is a gimmick still stadly IMO. They should have focused on other areas instead of 8K. Yea GoPro is way behind but I had not heard of overheating, interesting. I love the "are you using the camera like a normal camera" I think you can and should use the camera however you would like. I fully disagree the flip up screen isnt for monitoring shots, this is the exact reason for the screen IMO. Appreciate the comments and watch! Cheers!

Let me tell you about another downside of this camera: when I do scuba diving with my Ace Pro, the photos are MUCH worse than even my GoPro 11. The color is way off, it’s blurry, a lot of the photos have some weird white lines all over them… it’s bad.

@@HillPhantom and the crazy thing, I'm still debating between the Insta360 and the GoPro. The insta software is just a lot more convenient to use. On holiday If I want to post a quick Instagram post from the phone, then it's a lot easier on the Ace Pro, you don't need to transfer the whole file or files to the phone but then on the GoPro you have 8:7 ratio so the video will be better when you post it on Instagram. So hard to choose one.
by viewing others videos i was like sold to use the Ace Pro for Real Estate video Walk throughs but then you showed me how it responds to lights. so this is a no for me. thank you for poiinting this out

Pocket3 sits at home forever, GoPro is always without power, Action3 is okay but not good in lowlight. Ace Pro is the clear winner on all points….. and Focus is fine if you dont need your face in the hole frame😆

But jealous you like it bc other than the picture it produces I love the form factor.

First, I agree with you concerning all the reviews that were done with influencers who got free cameras. None of those reviews were honest. You can also tell that they were told to compare against the GoPro Hero which has sucked for years so there is no comparison.
Your logic is flawed... you stated "but if I'm going to have a a 2 second delay, with stability on, and I'm trying to do any type of moving shot, I'm just going to have to know that what I'm seeing on the LCD is delayed..." First, this is an action camera. It's meant to be used when you are doing action (running, biking, hiking, climbing... action=movement. If your doing action you should not be looking at the LCD screen! Next, if you are shooting someone doing action, shut off stability because you don't need it. You can also add stability control in post with Insta360 Studio if you need to.
I also tested looking at the recessed lights with my Ace pro and can't duplicate it. Try messing with the settings. Also, again, THIS IS AN ACTION CAMERA. It's not meant for shooting inside even though the low light shooting is much better than the One RS and all other action cameras.
Finally, I've noticed the same thing with the background foreground focus. If I'm shooting action (I make mountain bike videos), when I'm shooting around sunset, the camera will switch back and forth trying to figure out where to focus but mainly stays on the light which is where the sunset is. This the way the low light AI was trained to do though. This can be adjusted with settings too.
With all due respect how you shoot and the sports you do are vastly different than mine. I agree pov but I also film others, vlog whilest doing action sports, and shoot b roll. I have had zero issues doing this with other action cameras. And don't get it twisted, this is also being marketed as a vlogging set up so full send disagree this is a chest or head mount only rig. The light issue I stated all auto setting like 99 percent of folks shoot and it horrible. So while I value your one trick poney approach for your needs it does not fit for many of us who mix sports with b roll and talking heads. No salt but your use case doesn't even need a flip up screen. And also full send disagree action cams are meant to be outside only. The camera imo is trash, but...all for it if you are way into it. Everyone has different styles and needs this falls short of every action camera I have owned...sorry not sorry but still amped you found it right for you. :).
Insta360 just pushed a new firmware update or atleast I updated it today and so far I am not getting this lights issue. Funny enough I tried it just before watching your video. May it's the unit you have received

Some of these comments are comical. Also, from basic users that have no real standards when it comes to video from something that is supposed to be the NEXT JUMP in technology.
1. The color science sucks.
2. The HDR being on all the time? Stupid.. I guess they are addressing it but alas it should have never been forced.
3. 8k is a gimmick. Give me straight 8k, I don't want the zoom unless I am doing it in post. Allow me to do what I need to do with raw 10bit 8k files.
4. I have yet to see Leica saying they actually designed the lenses. It could be out there, but I have not seen it. From other "youtubers" its been said that Leica helped them address how to do the lenses and get the stuff to do it but did not design. IF THEY DID design the lens, they failed miserably.
5. Fanbois.. they are just that.
6. No GPS. (fangirls will argue the Gopro doesn't have it) but the actually does and the 12 did nothing but omit the feature which is why I didnt buy that trash either.
7. Noise in this camera, tearing, etc... are all evident if you actually watch the videos on a larger screen. Way worse then any of later gen gopros I own and DESTROYED by the pocket 3 footage I have. (Different camera)? Maybe.. But they stated it was the best thing out in their live (prerecorded) release video they had us all go to and watch.
8. EVERY reviewer for the first 2 weeks were bought and paid for. Some actually I used to respect. I have unsubscribed from their channels unless they were actually critical of the blatant things. Battery door sucks, lens not being user replaceable etc...
9. No one gives a shit about a flippy camera that uses it for action. The last thing I need is another thing to break!
10. The funniest thing of all.. If you read the directions it sais you shouldn't take this in the water diving etc.. as it could introduce water into the camera etc.. lol.. It's a @#$% action camera!
The AI? Just stupid.. and the fact they may charge for it? WORSE...
I can't wait till the X4 comes out with 6k resolution and people schillllllll the shit out of that too. Even at 8k we are just now going to be at 4k reframed video which is what we should have received in the ace pro.

This is not a vlogging camera. It's an action camera. A very good action/vacation camera doing what it supposed to be doing - beeing replacement for a smartphone in certain situations. It's should record only in sunny outdoors environment, and give pleasing, straight from camera video with pleasing colors.And it does exactly that's - better than competition.
If you expect something more from an action camera, you don't know what an action camera is for.

Yea I think the 360 has some real issues, hopefully the sort them out via upgrades. All that smart in that camera and it can't deal with indoor lighting. Not good IMO.

Thank you. You saved me from buying this junk. The focus is a huge turn off for me I've seen many reviews on this camera and almost every video has that same bad focus on peoples faces and objects that are the main subject of the video.

I needed a new action cam. Skiing holiday you see, in fact I am still on it (the ski holiday). Bought this thing a couple of weeks before I left, obviously acquainted myself with it before I set off, how it works, best settings etc....
Well b#ggah me. The red 'start filming' button only works around 5% (or even less) of the time, so you can have a lovely time observing what you might have filmed as you watch those lived moments disappear... On those odd occasions when it does start to record, try switching it off when you want to pause.... No such luck. You have to push the 'shut down/switch off' button to stop recording.
When it records, it is very good. But if you cannot control the absolute basics, what is the point?
