A few weeks ago i shared a theory that the reason the ace footage was not being promoted is that due to the smaller sensor, any ‘out of the box’ footage held at arms length would appear objectively better, because people’s faces would actually be in focus. Thus damaging the perceived quality of the ace pro that as many have now seen, makes faces look blurry.
The shot at 4:09 confirms that core theory, with the details in your stubble looking cloudy on the ace pro, but sharp as a tack on the ace.
Thanks for finally sharing this video, the ace looks like a far better investment for anyone who wants themselves in their own videos at arms length.

Thank you for this video comparison. Could you do a comparison of the sharpness of each camera at arms length? The Ace seems sharper when holding at arms length, but hard to tell. What is your experience when editing both camera footage?
I would say that when the arm is fully extended, both shots are sharp. However, if you bend your arm and take a close-up of your face, for example, the Ace's shot will be sharper - that's just the disadvantage of larger sensors

Man I really wanted to go with a DJI Action 4 instead but after buying one and seeing they don't have an app in the play store and they force you to sideload the apk and lose your security... I have no choice but to pick between these 2 now.

The Ace now has digital zoom with the latest firmware, just like the Ace Pro, but I have not seen a video example.

I have the Ace Pro, but all of your non-Pro shots look better than the HDR Ace Pro shots in this video, in my opinion. The HDR mostly make the image overall a bit darker with unnaturally boosted saturation. The "flawed" naturalness of the Ace looks better in my opinion.
Personally, I'm actually happy with the HDR on the Ace Pro - while HDR on the Ace quickly leads to image noise - but there will be a firmware release so that you can disable HDR even at low frame rates.
Based on how the modes are laid out, I assume you can't do HDR Free form videos on the non-Pro Ace?

What does the STD mean when the camera on the right is filming?
Standard = means non HDR
8:17 The hills in the far back have a blue shade on the clouds in between, while the STD ACE looks more natural (gray/white) to me. What is more accurate? Was there really so much blue or is that because of HDR?
Hm - I think it's just the wrong white balance on the Ace Pro
I lost hope about having a comparative video long time ago, thank you man, too bad for Insta360, if they provided such videos themselves, I may added that Ace to my gear, I've switched to DJI.
But I understand, if they provided a video or a camera for testers, they wouldn't sold as much Pro as they did, seeing the few differences... Only some dudes who need the better gear would bought it, not a great deal for insta360...
there are video showing the camera len is removeable. you can seach on youtube and watch it. not sure if you missed it ?

These are answered in the video. AFAIK every action cam, ever, can take pics, even my 8 year old ones.
This is the comparison I am looking for... If the Ace Pro is currently superior right now but somehow the Ace is beating the the gopro 12 in some levels considering it's more expensive I will definitely considering the Ace because it's on sale right now in my region about $200-+ less compared to Ace Pro And gopro12

For underwater shots up to 30 metres, would you recommend ace pro or ace?
The case does note make a difference but the ace pro has better low light performance - this may help if you dive so deep

No - it has smaller sensors. The larger the sensors, the larger the out-of-focus area near the lens.
Does the ace have the same minimal focusing distance as the ace pro?
No - due to the smaller sensor on the Ace you can get closer to the lens and are still in focus

When I look at this comparison video the Ace looks significantly sharper and more clear than the Ace Pro why is that? There is really no comparison in your video here... The Ace Pro looks so bad and blurry here in comparison. That seems to go against the specs? You can really see this around 4:05 with the comparison of your face.
The Ace looks sharper in that close up shot because the sensor is way smaller. Larger sensors have less depth of field. The focus is fixed at infinity on both cameras. This means that a larger area near the lens is out of focus on the Ace Pro.

I hardly see any difference, to be honest. That speaks for the Ace, however I'd probably invest the roughly 70 Euro difference to have the AcePro.

i got all the point, and i will not buy ace or ace pro today. maybe next year, why? even the picture of both ace and ace-pro is crisp and the color is good. i wouldnt want to buy 8K with just 24fps. maybe if they release the new one with 8K 30 to 60 fps and better EIS next year, i will consider it. but, i think its better if insta360 people make small and affordable gimbal for action camera and perfecting the software in the action camera and for smartphone (iphone and android based). just my opinion :)

The Ace Pro is not the best action camera currently available. It's the best vlogging camera currently available.
the DJI Pocket 3 is the best vlogging camera by a mile but isn't a true "action" camera since it has a fragile mechanical gimbal. the Ace Pro has very real issues with blogging because at arms length the fixed focus lens does not have crisp focus leaving the subject slightly blurry and is the worst of the conventional action cams for the purpose. The DJI Action 4 also suffers a bit (not as bad) at focus at arms length. The GoPro Hero 12 is the best of the action cams because it has crisp focus at a closer arms length distance, ideal for vlogging, BUT it suffers from by far the worst low light image quality etc. No one camera is perfect.
@@canyonblue737-8 You can easily put a diopter lens on the Ace Pro to fix the focal problem.
