Excellent review, thank you very much! I once asked the guy at the Sinn Store in Frankfurt (gotta check it out in case you visit Germany!) why the silicone strap is about as expensive as the bracelet and he told me it's the clasp, which, as you point out in your video, is more sophisticated than the one of the bracelet. I own a Sinn U1000, which is the chrono of Sinn's U series (discontinued, an over-engineered BIG chunk of submarine steel, I love it). Just last week, I had the silicone strap replaced. They replace just the two silicone parts, and these are 'only' 70 Euro (still expensive, but, you know...). So apparently yes, it's the clasp.
So so so well done. You didn’t spend the entire video measuring the watch, instead you walked through elements of the watch, and gave your thoughts. Thank you.
Great review. The “ back play “ in the bezel is indeed a design feature to clear salt crystals and silt . This was explained to me when collecting a UX . Finally a manufacturer actually thought about “ what if someone actually uses this as a working watch ? “ ;)
Thanks Eric! It’s going to be hard to consider most other watches as “tools” despite their features and ratings now haha. There’s so much actual engineering that they’ve done with the watch itself. The movement may be run of the mill but it’s practical and functional to not waste money and resources reworking a utilitarian movement.
I recently purchased the U50-Full T version on bracelet three weeks ago and I gotta say that it's better than I expected. Mine has the updated Sellita SW300-2 with a new larger and powerful mainspring barrel which increases the power reserve to 56+ hours, it is a top grade movement and tightly regulated for accuracy. Under the loupe I see crisp and sharp printing on the dial with zero error and super clean with no debris to be found! My example has zero play and the the bezel action is great. He U50 is a wonderful pro diver/tool watch with e excellent tight tolerances.
Great show my friend! Have just bought one of these beauties!! Tegemented bezel, case and clasp on the terrific silicone strap!!! It’s an absolute STUNNER!!!
Thanks mate! Massive congrats on your new acquisition :) such a fantastic one at that as well. Awesome that you went for the silicone, that’s my preferred choice as well. Cheers🍻
Thanks for the thorough review! The standard (non-black) bezel with the bright red Sinn strap is my favorite look for this watch, and what I plan to buy. So, glad you wore it like that throughout the video.
Excellent review! I own the U50 and it has become my daily wear. It ticks all the boxes! This is a real tool watch and stands apart from all of the current dive watches on the market.
Got mine a week ago. Fantastic watch all the way. I personally don't mind the "inferior" clasp on the bracelet, tho I do own a few lower priced watches with slightly better clasps. The U50 is a must have tool watch!
I have 6.1inch wrists, will I be able to size the bracelet for my wrist? I can't find this information anywhere online. Amazing review by the way, the best watch review I've ever seen. I like your in-depth approach and how you show your own personal experience.
Thanks mate. Regarding sizing the bracelet, I can't recall well enough about how many links can be removed. I'm fairly certain it should work as your wrist is of seemingly ordinary proportions. However, I guess best option would be to ask Sinn directly, either through instagram as a dm or comment.
Loved your comment on “long dead if…” British sense of humor. Awesome review - with acute realism. Anyone have experience with non-metal red band & its comfort in tropical climate?
Great review! I love the Sinn U50 great looking and functional piece! Just subscribed! Saw you on my buddy Miguel's podcast recently! Keep up the great work with your channel!
That's a very nice review, that mirrors my impressions and experience of the watch (U50T with bracelet + silicone + tegimented clasp). My only knock on the deployant clasp coming with the silicone strap is not its length but is thickness. It's probably very good when employed on the U1, which has a significantly thicker case, ast it counterbalances it visually. But the U50 case being so thin, having such a thick clasp creates a lack of balance. Plus, it makes it harder to fit under a cuff.
Thanks Johnny! I see how the thickness could be unfavourable. I never tried to fit this piece under a cuff so didn't notice that. Regarding the weight, I didn't feel that to influence the balance but I guess that depends entirely on how tight you wear the strap and whether there's a lot of traction between your wrist and the band.
@@StandardTime The balance I was referring to is strictly visual, nothing to do with the weight. It's just odd to have a thin cased sports watch, but then looking from the side the clasp is so thick comparatively.
I bought a U1 (black on the silicone strap) used with box & papers 2 years old: $1,900.00 I work with motorcycles & I don't have to concern myself with scratching it. And I live by the beach, I can take a quick run to the ocean & not remove it. It's a Hulk of a watch though. I think I could break a car window with it if I had to. The strap was thick as a car tire. I replaced it with an after market silicone that is a little slimmer.
I'm sure it is thicker on the U1. And when I stated ''I don't have to worry about scratching it' I was referring to the tegmented steel (and I have the fully black coated mode. I forget what they cal their process) I'm more concerned with scrathing the motorcycles :))
I need it so bad! I could order the u50 SDR (black bezel) right now... or wait several month for the grey normal version. What now? Both are great.... Such a dilemma
Haha, that's certainly your specific choice to make :) I guess watching a bunch of videos and comparing the two back and forth is not quite enough eh ;) If I planned to wear it on the bracelet I would go with the grey bezel. On the strap, I'd do black :)
Great review... I really want to get the U50 but think it'll be too small for my 8" wrist. I really want a 'thinner' U1... not a smaller case per'say. The reason I sold my 16570 Explorer II Polar... it was just a bit too small for my wrist. Loved it, but not for me.
Thanks Eric! Yeah the U50 would feel a tad small on an 8” wrist. Makes sense that you sold the 16570 as well, that might’ve been quite small on your wrist!
Thanks mate! I haven’t experienced the U50 S but I would assume it to be some of the toughest coating available on a watch because this kind of tech is where Sinn does outstandingly well. The tegiment coating on this piece did not scratch at all in the 1 month that I wore it daily including active sports.
Nice review, I would love one. I came across the U1 many years ago, I downloaded a picture and had it on my study area... I am seriously considering one of the Sinn watches. UX, U1 or U50 I would like to know what is it temperature range. Some, U2, T1 and U212 function down to-45 and to + 80... I work outside, also my hobbies are walking, trekking and studding ecology. In the past, I used two Seiko diverse and they have lasted 8-10 years
Great review, hope you're alright, been a while since you uploaded... finally on summer, finished the year with A A B, but I was 2 marks say from AAA... So close :P
Bro someone thought you bad. The U1 has the same price as the U50 There is a TEGIMENT option for both of the models, and if you choose that option with both models again u get the same price. The only difference is in size the U50 is a lot smaller the U1, and it is not as water resistant. So yea if your buying for your kids or have a extremely small wrist get the U50, if you have a normal wrist get the U1. If you want a bigger many watch but want more comfort get the T1 it is lighter because its made of TITANIUM and it molds to the hand better. The U1 is a tool wach its supposed to be a big fat wach that never brakes! If you like the Sinn design but want something more dress worthy get the 556i its also cheaper and has a nice display case back.
I’m not sure about now, but when the video was made it was as I explained. Watch was sent in directly by Sinn from their headquarters in Frankfurt and that’s also where the information was clarified.
@@StandardTime Current factory prices with metal bracelets: U1= 2190€ U50= 2190€ UX= 2190€ U1 TEGIMENT= 2540€ U50 TEGIMENT= 2540€ UX TEGIMENT= 2540€ T1= 3010€ U212= 2650€ U2= 2590€ U2 TEGIMENT= 2940€ TEGIMENT is a process that makes the metal hard as ceramic and almost unscratchable. This term in the wach name means that the entire wach and bracelet have received this treatment, and are therefore more expensive then the standard version. But I suppose the prices stay the same for all the 3 standard models: U1, U50 and UX so that it’s easier to decide and so that no wach looks like its superior to the other. I also think that they made that so that a person with a small wrist doesn’t need to pick the big wach because its more expensive and later regret his choice. And that someone who likes the UX model doesn’t feel like he made an inferior choice because he didn’t pick an automatic or he bought a cheaper wach. “If you need to know what the date is underwater, you are long dead” well said lol also I never understood the need for a date complication on a dive watch.
It’s so damn good at everything it does. You hear tool watch thrown around a lot but I don’t think I’ve ever seen that being more relatable than with this piece.
I have had 2 love them but the roto on both is loud and scratchy sounding. The AR coating on the outside looks nice until you scratch it then it looks like crap. In my opinion why make a bulletproof watch and put an AR coating on the outside.
That’s just the Sellita movement. Unfortunately it can’t be mitigated :( I’m personally quite careful with my watches and I’ve got one with dual sided AR and I haven’t scratched it over the last 4 years luckily. So I guess it depends on person to person and how much of a tool you use it as.

Great review! Are there any micro-adjust holes on the clasp of the rubber strap?
Thanks Mark! Yeah there are three micro-adjust holes on the clasp from what I recall.

Right because 99% of dive watches don’t go diving. Unless you count desk diving where a date window is handy.
Why it costs more?
- new case production dimensions
- more popular that U1
It’s the first one ☝️. The discrepancy is too small to realistically account for profit I think.
