- After conducting some research on the required tools I decided to take on a front and rear differential fluid change in my 2012 Nissan Pathfinder. Overall the job was very easy and only requires about an hour to complete. The cost savings when doing this job as a DIY project over taking it to a dealership for the work is also significant.
Tools Required:

- 75W-90 synthetic oil (rear, Nissan brand recommended)

Great video. I've been toying doing this on my 09' I've never done Diffs before. Always paid to have somebody else do it but, your video makes it look pretty easy. Just have to get a pump so that I can get it up into the diffs!! :D

@@DIYNorth not terrible but not great. I don't get paid 100$ an hour. So if i cam find all of the supplies for no more than 100 I will do it myself like I've done oil changes. It would cost me 200$ plus tip of 20$ that I pay willfully to get it done by tire kingdom

That is how you put the correct amount of fluid in. Assuming the vehicle is level, you keep adding fluid until it starts to overflow the filler plug.
Great video, would like to know if same frame 2006-2012 between US and Canada. Thanks for sharing.
It is my understanding that yes the frames are the same between Canada and the US. The only difference is likely the speedometer and in Canada there are daytime running light laws so the light switch is likely different. 2012 was the final year of the body on frame design here as well.

Could you give me the exact dimensions of the 11026-4N200 washers please? I'll try to find somewhere other than the dealership. Nissan is asking $10 per washer and since I need 6, I find it exaggerated to pay $60 plus tax for 6 aluminum washers.
I can not. I would have to remove them from my vehicle.
Take your filler cap off and measure it. And or look online. Are the caps/plugs for fill and drain the same size?
what wrench is needed to remove the plug on the front and rear differentials? wrench size
It's a 10mm hex / allen key.

No nissan didn't have a branded oil for the front
9:00 this oil didn't need to be changed :)

We are now in the year 2020, almost a year after replacing the oil. Did you get any noise?
A lot of people complain about the appearance of noise after changing the oil of Difference.

Thanks for the comment. To answer your question, no I have had no noise from either the front or rear differential. I would suggest going with the specifically recommended fluids from Nissan as I have heard people mention in various forums that they often change brands, or go from non-synthetic to synthetic (or the opposite). I haven't heard anyone complain about noise after doing the fluid change, but it's entirely possible. Generally I try to stick with the dealer recommendation, particularly for this generation of Nissan Pathfinder with the known coolant and transmission fluid issues.
I have 2012 pathinder 4wd warning light flashes at 40 when coming to stop car shuts off any ideas what can be causing this?
I would probably take that to a shop for an inspection. Once they tell you what the problem is then maybe do the work yourself.
Do you have an obd 2 code reader? It might tell you why warnings are coming on.
@@DIYNorth I do all my work myself or my mechanic friend helps me out I have po335 ordered a new sensor and I have a po101 but I have a brand new Nissan maf sensor its weird I had the ecu updated at Nissan not sure why this code is back I checked harness to.
Is this the same for a 2016 Nissan pathfinder?
The general process should be the same, but I'm not sure exactly how the 2016 is set up. The 2012 is the last year of the truck frame and then they went to the cross over design so there may be some differences.
PB Blaster, not WD-40.
I've never used PB Blaster. I definitely use liquid wrench, 3 in 1, and WD-40 pretty liberally. Sometimes all of them at once.
I find PB blaster is too corrosive for general use where you do not expect to find an issue. If the bolt looks REALLY bad, I will use it, but in most cases it just seems like too many chemicals for the job.
