@TheTacticalHillbilly , I studied a little about the Confederacy with my history teacher in school here in Brazil. I had heard that it strongly supported slavery, and even its supporters at the time were in favor of a pro-slavery state. Was your third great-grandfather in favor of it? Are you as well?
@@PedroPlinioFernandes I'm not fully answering for him but I'd like to say that In the USA the confederate war was very much about two separate issues, the issue of confederation and states rights over the federal government and slavery. The north used the question of slavery a lot for their propaganda to support their cause, before and after the war, which worked quite well for them actually. I strongly support state rights but not the idiotic practice of slavery. These people that immigrated to Brazil did indeed have slaves, most of them at least whereas most Southerners were just poor farmers that couldn't afford to even have one let stand what even their position on the matter was. But those that immigrated to Brazil were mostly slave owners and in subsequent generations most of them became so intermixed that the majority of their decedents now are part slave owner and part slave or just mixed in general. Not all of them are mixed but they don't really make a distinction there they want to keep their heritage and traditions alive and don't really make a distinction on some people being a bit more mixed then others. Hahaha there’s a fair chance. And yeah I had a friend look the video over after I was done with translations but my friend didn’t care that much and said some parts weren’t very clear. Thanks for the info
Yeah I tried to make it a bit easier to understand with the way I edited it but it’s still easy for people that have already made up their mind to watch half the video and take his words out of context.
Im native to Santa Barbara, born and raised and moved to Americana as soon as i got the chance. Speaking honestly with you: most natives dont care or really dont know about that confederate story, even those who may have confederate ancestry (my gf is like 1/8 confederate ancestry and dont care a bit). Actually, like in most of the state of São Paulo, the more proud and bragging community of immigrants are the italians, even in SBO and nearby towns they hold italian festivals to this day. Always curious to see how SBO get all the fame about the confederate story even tho the city next to it is called Americana and actually had the confederate flag in its city flags for decades hahahahha (Americana is actually a really nice city that i love very much, boomer that you didnt get to visit). That said, what you thought about the city itself? The admnistration has been trying to bring more relevance to SBO recently and has had quite a sucess with a yearly rock festival that they have over at the old sugar refinery plant, i myself like SBO a lot and think it is really an example of a São Paulo interior town
A palavra " interior " não tem o significado que tem no Brasil, amigo. Procure saber a forma correta de dizer que uma cidade é do "campo", dizer interior está totalmente incorreto... não te digo porque prefiro que você vá atrás.

Woke blacks in Brazil cancelled the "Festa Confederada" (Confederate Celebration) which was the only reason anyone ever came to Santa Bárbara d'Oeste. The city has lost millions in tax revenue, hundreds of small businesses which used to supply the celebration with everything from paper plates to meat to audio equipment have lost business and taken a major financial hit since the cancellation.
Perhaps 30 years ago it was mostly known for the Festa Confederada, but nowadays SBO is a main destination in the statet cultural agenda with many festivals like Rock Fest (which had like half a million people attending this year i guess) and Festa das Nações.
Até hoje não entendi pq a conta do racismo se sobre aí sobre os confederados, sendo que a história correta é clara quando descreve que quem era a favor da escravidão era a união
I am Brazilian, and I have respect for the confederates. Their flag means fight for freedom and independence. In my state of RS, we also tried to separate from the mainland, but we couldn`t, despite of our efforts. It is morally WRONG to force a region to be part of something they do not want to, most of the times forcing that so that the "mainland" can rob that region with heavy taxes and other government interests. Secession should be undeniable.

if you look it up there are black and white photos of Jimmy Carter standing next to the Confederate monument there in 1972
Yeah I’ve seen them, kind of mind blowing
When he met children speaking with Southern accent, he thought it was staged.
Yes your right

Yeah I got a similar sense from the people I’d talked to. Most don’t care. I don’t know what you mean with SBO

O mais interessante nesse video foi saber que o Joel Santana se tornou guia turístico.
Eu sou brasileiro e nao sabia q existia esse lugar 😱😱😱👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Interesting. Based.
Brazil has all the countries on once.
Não tem nenhum problema com pessoas negras no Brasil.
Eu sei

Mas isso é diferente do que ouvi
Qual o motivo de VC precisar estar se justificando?.

Well in this case he did it to try to minimize political controversy and so on. A bit of a different thing
Interessante 🇧🇷

That much of a financial hit? that sounds surprising to me.
It seemed like just a small portion of the population of the entire city
