  • The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly preparing a massive, long-term offer to make UConn's Dan Hurley the next head coach. They were in reported talks with JJ Redick to take over for Darvin Ham after his firing in May. Colin Cowherd reacts to the news and warns Lakers fans on what to expect if Hurley is hired. He then discusses what is next for Redick.

  • @brob8204
    @brob8204 Місяць тому

    As crazy as it sounds, I was coming around to JJ Redick as the coach, as a Lakers fan. As I tell folks all the time, the NBA and college basketball are two completely different sports. The approach to the game is different (you don't see countless ball screens in college), the athletes in the NBA are much superior, the shooting is much superior. Heck, we just saw Dallas wipe out a 30 pt lead last night in a little over 10 minutes. That can't really happen in college. Dan Hurley is a very good coach, but so was Pitino, Carlesimo, Calipari, Billy Donovan, etc. It's hard at the next level and you don't have the luxury of trying to figure it out for 2-3 years in LA as Coach Ham just felt.

    Call me skeptical, but it sounds like a leverage play from both sides. Dan Hurley is the seventh highest-paid coach in Division I basketball at $5 million per year, half of what Kansas' Bill Self makes. An offer from the Los Angeles Lakers would force Connecticut to give him a new contract with a big raise after winning back-to-back national championships.
    Meanwhile, reports of the Lakers operating as a mom-and-pop business (namely, Jeannie Buss surrounded by Kurt and Linda Rambis along with Rob Pelinka) with LeBron James and his sports agency having a significant influence have some people questioning the Lakers' commitment to winning. Reportedly interviewing a no-nonsense, successful coach like Hurley helps establish credibility that the Lakers' head coaching job is highly attractive and draws more than J.J. Redick.

      uh... i like your sentiments but Lonzo Ball translated into AD and that paved for a 2020 NBA Title. Say what you want on that, the banner still hangs and counts. What was not smart was blowing up that championship team and listening to the cry baby star of the team to trade for westbrook. Keep in mind before injuries hurt they were dominating the suns who went on to the NBA finals. What they did in the summer of 2021 is tantamount to what they almost did in trading worthy and rambis in 86 after they lost to the rockets for Mark Aguirre and some picks. Jeannie's father and Jerry West resisted the calls to do that and they went on to win back to back.
      Vogel was the perfect coach for that team 2020-21 team and became the least equipped coach to handle westbrook lakers interation that soon came along with the pain we Lakers fans are still feeling now.

    I don't understand why you'd leave for the NBA, especially LA. That organization hasn't been run well since the 2000s, they have no draft picks, and that roster has 0 depth. Go back to UCON where you'll almost always be top dog and not have your reputation ruined.

      Lakers currently have a 1st round draft pick in this year’s draft, and three more tradeable first round picks through 2031. They also have the allure of the Los Angeles market (which produces tons of NBA players) and a championship as recent as 2020. Don’t disregard the Laker franchise.

    I will believe this rumor or "news item" only when it is official that Hurley is the next Lakers coach. Otherwise, to me this is looks more as a PR spin that the Lakers top brass are placing to fool the public they are looking into the opposite direction of what their star player wants. The spin has begun with an item the other day saying that A. Davis prefers Borrego. I would not be surprised to find out tomorrow or in a few days that discussions with Hurley "suddenly fall out" and the Lakers are then relegated to choose JJ, which I believe has already been done.
    Again, until Hurley becomes the next coach, I dont believe such discussions are serious.
