The lady without makeup I have so much respect for her. I rarely wear makeup either, and I have to say I hate that there are people who wouldn't hire a woman all because she hasn't clogged her pours with foundation

This sounds depressing but the way I view it is this is a very looks obsessed society and women especially are expected to look a certain way. The woman saying she wouldn’t give an opportunity to a woman who doesn’t wear makeup is a shallow human being. Taking care of yourself is not slopping makeup on their face, it is being clean and put together.

I can understand it in situations where you would have to meet a higher up (like a politican or council) it helps because they are judgemental and it’s always men. You could use the argument for fluent English. Putting a person that barely speaks any English at customer service in a pharmacy is silly, so imagine somebody trying to sell you a product and not taking care of themselves or try to present themselves in a better way. I think when the woman said she wouldn’t hire someone who wasn’t wearing make up, there’s particular women she was talking about. Older women have talked down to younger women from their 20’s-40’s. Now THAT should be a topic

I went to work once without makeup and was told to put some on. I was pressured into wearing makeup, I didn’t wear it until I was 21 because I started work in premium retail. I like makeup, but I don’t feel like I need it to be comfortable and I don’t feel like I should be judged if I don’t wear it. Men judge you FOR wearing it because they think you’re being fake or trying to hide something. You can’t win.

I don’t bother with makeup everyday. My eyes are very sensitive and they water when I wear eye makeup and it’s uncomfortable. I do, however, keep up with a skin care routine, hygiene, my hair, and my clothes.
I don’t think women need to wear makeup to “look like they put in effort” and “care about how they present themselves.” I do that just fine without it.
That said, I do wear makeup sometimes. When I want to. But makeup is uncomfortable for me so I’d rather not most of the time. I don’t really think I need it to look nice or professional.

As a working woman I'd say I should have realised sooner than I did that my male colleagues did not have to spend time or money on worrying about, or doing things to, their hair or skin. So I've taught myself to worry less about my looks as long as I am focused on my attitude and abilities. I have also seen that people respond well to a confident and happy person irrespective of makeup.
Not saying one shouldn't. But we wear it if we want to - not becuase we feel pressured because we might miss out on professional opportunities. Lucky to be in a field where my looks don't matter that much.

I think gen z is going in the right direction with this. People either wear makeup because it’s a hobby of theirs, or they don’t wear it cause it doesn’t interest them. Not as many gen z girls wear makeup “just cause.”

What does investigating fraud have to do with makeup or needing to be made up? I don’t get this woman’s argument. If she were in the beauty industry, I could understand not wanting to hire someone who doesn’t wear makeup, but you can still be a professional woman and dress nicely and bathe and have good hygiene, and not wear make up and still look presentable. Next she’s gonna say that she wouldn’t hire someone who slightly overweight because that means that they don’t take care of themselves or better yet (because this applies here in the states and had led to Crown Act legislation)… are we going to force Black women to straighten their hair to look professional? We truly do have a long ways to go in terms of equalizing the sexes. Make up can be creative and can be fun, but it’s also oppressive: let’s not overlook that.

I've been working without make up on for 10 years from 25-35 and nobody ever asked me to put make up on. I've worked in retail, for my local council and self employed as a photographer / videographer. Perhaps it's because none of my jobs relied too much on what I looked like, but I did once have a manager tell me to dress better (his wife wore suits and was hyper feminine) - luckily now I work in libraries and get compliments about my outfits, skin, hair, etc. all the time, and literally barely do anything 😂 Yes, I'm that annoying person who seems to not have to try. But I think it's also attractive when you do what is you and don't give a f**k. I always felt like make up was a mask and looked weird on me, rather than enhancing or being fun. But that's just me.
Tbh I have very good skin naturally and rarely get spots. But I do think one of the reasons I look 25, instead of 35 is because I didnt smudge myself with make up, as well as get wasted every weekend of my youth, or smoke, etc.
Sorry, but I feel bad for women who think they need make up to be a better version of themself. They are still underneath it all.

Alicia Keys is pretty enough to pull that off but even she went back to it I noticed. Many women don't feel they are pretty enough to do that. I live in Florida and 3/4 of the year would sweat it off Plus I'm old now ( 60 ) so I just self- tan and use koolaide stain here and there for week-long coloration. Some have said get that goop off your face ( older ladies, jealous ones, and in Churches sometimes ) and so others have said: "why don't you gussy up sometimes?" Mascara ( No matter the kind I've tried ) gives me Raccoon eyes and makes me feel like a streetwalker. But I see both sides of this argument. Most of the ladies I know feel better wearing it most of the time.

Yeah, my mum says she doesn’t wear makeup but she wears eyeliner every day lol. She brags about being naturally beautiful. Just because someone wears makeup doesn’t mean their naturally beautiful. It’s a personal choice. Some girls feel put together with makeup on and feel naked. Equally, I think if you don’t want to wear it you should feel pressured to. My sister doesn’t usually wear it because she likes to bare faced but she said the other day that she liked how she did her makeup recently and it makes her want to wear it more often.

Can a woman succeed make-up free? The diversity of peoples' lifestyles, jobs and cultures is such in 2023 that there are some women out there who will have "got the job" without wearing foundation, lipstick, mascara, etc. Plus the choice is a personal choice of the individual, I choose to wear some make-up every day it's a confidence booster and I make GRWM videos and some beauty content. No offence to the lady who is make-up free in this interview, but some contour, natural looking foundation and a bit of blusher would make a person appear to look less anaemic under the harsh TV studio lights.
