      Star Wars Risk is a reimplementation of Queen's Gambit. It's a little simpler and the setting is different but the mechanisms are super similar.

      Yeah, my list would easily have Rebellion as #1, but Queen's Gambit is a cool one to have high on the list, as well. For me, the theme actually hurts Queen's Gambit a bit; it's hard to get as excited about the big battle in Episode I. (At least it wasn't about Episode II, which was the worst of the series.) ;-)

    Thanks for the video. WOTC Star Wars Minis and FF Star Wars LCG are two of my favorites that you did not mention. (Thanks for recommending Queen's Gambit to me back when we were in Korea. Love it.) Also, as a kid, I used to play Hasbro "Battle at the Sarlaac Pit" game. Really loved it as a kid - haven't revisited it as an adult to see if it is still good. I will have to do that sometime.
    Edit: Just saw a gameplay video on the Sarlaac Pit Game - I remember it now - way to simplistic for adults, but great for kids and looks fantastic!

    My favorite is Star Wars LCG, I hope it makes the list. If I know Tom I bet Star Wars Destiny is #10 which is sad since it's better than Dicemasters, which has probably always been in his top 5 since it came out.

    Star Wars Risk is one of the best games I've ever played. Completely blew me away. The Risk name shouldn't even be associated with it. It plays nothing like it. It's much faster and far more enjoyable.

    My list would be 1) starwars rebellion 2) the queens gambit 3) imperial assault 4) star wars tcg (decipher) 5) battle for endor (west end games, solitaire) 6) xwing miniatures 7) star wars risk 8) outer rim 9) armada 10) star wars lcg 11) star wars legion 12) star wars destiny 13) star wars battle (west end games, loved how the skirmish battle system incorporated nicely into the starwars D6 rpg system) 14) wotc star wars minis. Star wars tcg really deserves a high spot on the list the later expansion sets greatly improved gameplay making every card in the game useful with lots of different possible strategies to win. This game let player skill shine through; the card deck as resource manipulation was a very unique mechanic and led to tense end games where you would count every remaining card in the deck as to have enough resources to act and had to set up combos to recycle cards back into the deck. I feel its a pity they havent yet published similar games to the queens gambit; several battles would suite very nicely for this mechanic of several mni-battles happening at the same time; the battle for hoth/the end battle of rogue one/the end battle of return of the jedi would all fit nicely. Star wars risk was a good attempt but the scope and impact of the side battles is too small on the main battle.

    I have to concur, while I don't love Episode 1, I do love Queen's Gambit. Given the ease of play, the pacing, and the amount of fun I've had with it I would put it at the top of the list too. I haven't played rebellion, but given the increased complexity it has over Queen's gambit, even if I loved it I'd probably have to put it second because it would be that much harder for me to get to the table.

    Haven't played "Queen's Gambit"... always hear it's similar to SW: Risk (because of the three way battle) but Rebellion is easily one of the best games I have played. 3 and 4 player version is gimmicky but the two player is amazing, such an epic game! Great list. Cheers

    • @johsenior1535

      Queens gambit is similar but way better, the side battles there are just as important as the main battle while in risk most attention goes to the main battle

My top three Star Wars games are; 3)Star Wars Family Feud, you don't need to be a fan to play. 2)Star Wars Destiny 1)X-Wing miniature game. I do have some old Attacktix in a tote box. I'm waiting until my nephews get older to play with them.

    Has anyone here played Risk: Star Wars Original Trilogy Edition from 2006, published by Hasbro/Parker Bros? I could be wrong, but I don't the The Dice Tower has ever made any content concerning that game. I've got it, played it a few times. It's alright. Very Risk-like, as opposed to the newer Star Wars Risk, with some pretty cool extra mechanics that make it Star Warsy.

    Miniatures Battles is something to be considered highly and is severely underappreciated and Star Warriors should also be seriously considered. These are sorta the older and more detailed, more heavy brothers to Legion and X-Wing respectively, and can be integrated with the WEG Star Wars: The RPG! I'd also bring up Battle for Hoth and I really think you should keep Sabacc from Crisis on Cloud City, another WEG addition, as up there. It is a competitor with card classics like Poker and Blackjack to me, which it sorta combines along with its own spin.
    I'd put Rebellion above Queen's Gambit, though I've only gotten to play it virtually recently.
    I'd put Miniatures Battles (WEG) at the top just because of how much grit you can put into it and alter it and modify which it encourages and really engages with the players, but it's damn close with Rebellion. If I was to wrap in Star Warriors and the RPG though then WEG easily takes it with just how well put together its system is as a whole. One of the most expansive RPG systems ever developed.

    • @williamwilting
      @williamwilting 6 років тому

      I wouldn't be able to guess Zee's list, allthough I think he'd go for Star Wars Destiny, Star Wars LCG or Star Wars Empire vs Rebellion (the card game) for his higher spots.
      Sam's nr. 1 is Rebellion, without a moment of doubt. He'd include Star Wars Carcassonne on his list as well, I'm sure of it, but I don't know on which spot (3 to 5, I think). Nr. 2 is Imperial Assault, I think. I have to admit that he's done a Top 5 of this, but back then Rebellion and Carcassonne weren't released yet.

    • @jimalexander687
      @jimalexander687 6 років тому +2

      Indeed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it will be hard respecting Tom's after his choosing a kid's game with darts for his top 10 and omitting the LCG entirely.
      And Destiny is one of my favorite games, period. I gave it up after a few months, not because it wasn't a good game, but because I didn't have the time and/or money for another life style game (like Dice Master's), particularly when I lacked any friends who were into the game.
      If I had even one friend who was into it, I would've stayed the course. Excellent game, but too costly in both time and money for just occasional, casual play.

    I know Tom loves Queen's Gambit, but there is no way it would be #1. And though I also liked the Decipher CCG, you have to include Star Wars: The Card Game too.
    My top 10:
    10- Queen's Gambit
    9- Epic Duels
    8- Star Wars Risk
    7- Decipher CCG
    6- Star Wars: The Card Game
    5- Armada
    4- Destiny
    3- X-Wing
    2- Imperial Assault
    1- Rebellion

      Star Wars Risk has several mechanisms in common, but it is a must faster simpler game. The connectivity between the areas of battle is reduced, and instead of 4 areas of battle it is simplified to 3. Similar yes but not a really the same game with a different theme slapped on.

      The new trilogy is very far from "great".
      7 was average at best and 8 was downright terrible with lore shattering non sense and awful sub plots, characters, arcs, editing, pacing, narrative, and the list goes on...
      Rogue One was a good movie though !
      Solo on the other hand is the most cynical cash grab I've seen in a loooong time... Faceplam for days in the (oddly [?] empty) theater !
      The prequels were nice though (episode 1 wasn't great but it had its moments), but they came out more than 10 years ago so they were not included in my "nowadays".

      @johsenior1535 3 роки тому

      @@TorIverWilhelmsen if you love sci fi action in general, then yes they are ok, but if you like the star wars over-arching story and theme then they are worthless. The opening scene in 8 where poe is playing a kids wordgame with general hux is downright silly, not to mention the unrealistic fight where poe takes out all canons all by himself, and the non-sensical use of slow dropping bombs to take out ships in a highspeed space battle! i have seen better b-movies! Not once in the trilogy did the first order come over as a menacing threat, they are more akin to north korea, making lots of fuss but never a real threat
