Got out of survival mode about 3 months ago, after being on it for 15 years. My crippling anxiety is gone. I can finally say that I can live a somewhat "normal" life now. Cant tell you how good it feels. Hoping for the best for anyone that is on it. YOU GUY'S CAN GET BETTER! Its not too late.
This resonates so much. I've been feeling so dumb lately because I couldn't focus due to months of stress and anxiety. I've been in survival mode for way too long. I need a break.
Silence is critical, but I'll add a few others: 1 - low eye clutter. The less that your brain has to figure out what's around you the better. A large park/nature or clean room is ideal. 2 - related to eye clutter - reduced movement around you. Going back to the park where you have people walking compared to a high traffic location. 3 - make it a happy space. Going somewhere pretty or where people are generally happy, or creating a comfortable space will increase the message to the body it's ok.

What if you got complex ptsd former drug user and for the first time in you life you don't have to fight to exist and if your childhood was so messed up you got raised by a dog from 3 to 6 years subject to death tortur tried takling your own life 33 times and what if you never got to learn how you was as a child and there is no help from Any one you don't have fameliy or friends how do I find a life??
connecting using support groups (such as ptsd support groups) might help, therapy of course helps if you can get it. work on indulging your inner child, such as buying that video game you wanted to play as a kid but never could. do something for self-fulfillment such as volunteer work or a new hobby. I think meditation is really important too. try to find friends where you can to build up a support system. I wish the best for you
tl;dr: stress can negatively affect logical thinking and result in unhealthy coping, but mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing can help manage stress better.
Shoot I wish I could get some silence my roommate constantly has music loud and I freak out, but I know I'm in survival mode I just can't figure out how to get out of it
I have a tap dancing tyrannosaurus rex as an upstairs neighbor who pumps bad music often. Speaking to him, the building manager and local authorities and organizations did nothing. I have a disability and so am treated worse than livestock; I don't know if I'm going to make it.
I'm using this video for the inmates who are participating in my BEST SELF Be You Only Better class at Ridgeland Correctional in SC. I enjoyed how you insert clips of the bear and dogs. Any. suggestions?
