I have old barbed wire and woven wire around most of my property now and I'm thinking of replacing it with one strand of barbed wire or non-electric high tensile wire at the bottom where it will touch the grass and four strands of electric high tensile wire above that. I haven't seen anyone do that yet, but from what I read so far, it seems the 12.5ga high tensile wire will last longer than barbed wire and is easier to install.

What kind of goats do you have?

Pallets are so great aren’t they?? They have been great for us!
I think if we would have put in wood posts and attached our pallets to them they would have held up better. But I’m so glad we’ve been able to use them up till now!
Good point about the horns.
Horns can really cause problems! In some cases they are necessary but in our confinement, it makes much more sense to have our goats without horns.

We have woven wire with t posts for our goats. It looks the same as you showed, kinda scrunched up from sticking their heads through it, and gets imbedded in the soil. Overall it's worked pretty well for us though! I agree with the wood board fencing as the ideal option, someday I'd like to install the same 😄
Our woven wire has been great for us too 😊 but yes, the wood would be optimal!

Thanks for sharing some great options, Delci! Fencing is so important and really should be one of the first planned and implemented portions of a homestead. We have gone with a combination of chain link fencing and 4 panel supported with welded wire. So far so good but we’ll see how it holds up over the long haul. Know that your videos are greatly appreciated!! 🙂

Howdy ma'am, that was some useful tips since I'm starting wto expand my goat number,right now i have the Canadian dwarfs ,planning to add our native country breed...will be starting work with 5 feet high cement poles n chain link 2 inches.

We spray under fence lines and have no problems with weeds/grass shorting out electric. We spray twice a year, once in the spring and again late summer. We have ten acres with goats and cattle in a five pasture rotation. We use field fence on the exterior fences and electric for cross fencing. A strand or two of barbed wire on top of the field fence will prevent cattle from rubbing. My goat working pens are panels and 4x4 with a box made of pallets.
What size squares did your woven wire fence have? 4x4 or 6x6?
If you are planning to have kids, can you always leave the bucks with the does
Put electric fence wire at chest to head level will keep them away from fences I had cedar rail fences worked great with my nubians
Cyclone wire 6 foot tall and electric fencing works a treat
We have like 1,5 meter High fence and our goats could still clim over IT and squeze under IT so we had tried electric fence witch dident work either so now we have the normal fence with several strands off electric fence both at the same place and that is the only thing that seemes to work
That’s so good you found out what works! Goats surely are persistent in their desire to get out if they want to!
Just curious why you don’t have any stumps etc to jump on for boredom?
They do.
They have a stand attached to the barn.
A stand in the middle they sleep and jump on.
They have 4 tires that are upright at different heights.
They have the roof of the new feeder I built.
They have a handful of tires laying down.
And the old feeder upside down.
Will goats with horns get stuck in 4x4 woven wire fence squares?
It’s hard to say. The size of goat to begin with might make the difference but it seems like goats can weasel their way into a lot of situations that we wonder how they got there 😆
Would chain link fence work?
Yes! That’s a great option! Definitely one that could be added to the list 😊
that is why I am cementing the poles and adding a very small hole fencing. I am also thinking to add a chicken wire cieling so that they cant get out . I always keep my buck with my girls until the last month of their pregnancy. I see no real need to separate the buck.

I would say at least 4 feet or higher 😊 🐐
I got goats. They can jump. Make it 6 feet and dont get a fence with large holes. the smaller te holes the better. Goats are great escape artists. Dont underestimate them. The support poles should be cemented in the ground for extra strength. My buck can stand up 5. 7 and he weight 200 lb easy. The ladt thing you need is a goat loose in the mountains or a neighborhood. Trust me, you can be looking for them for hours if you don't train them to go to pasture on exact same spots. Build your fencing right the first time

Your looking at the American country girl, currently in high demand and a rare breed.
Most of girls nowadays are city girls of high maintenance, lots of issues, poor quality, typically not good for anything serious in my experience.
@@oscarbear7498 this gave me a good laugh.😂 In a sense, quite true, although I think the country girl is on the comeback!😉
