as far as age for electric net fence I would want them to be around 3 to 4 weeks old before I introduced it. One of the best and most helpful books for meat goats and goat health is Meat Goat Production Handbook 2nd Edition . I would consider it a must. Its put together by Langston University American Institute for Goat Research.....right here in Oklahoma.
My experience with 25+ years has been no. My education says there has to be a possibility. I would get an explanation from the manufacturer of the energizer you’re wanting to use before purchasing it and so you can better understand it.
Good video and great info. I found some 300+ varieties of Knipix pliers, but none of them looked like the pair you have. Do you know the model number? Thanks, Dennis
Hey Dennis! Yes there are a ton of them. This is the one I use. Knipex 71 32 200 Comfort Grip High Leverage CoBolt Cutter with Notch and Spring I copied that description off of Amazon. It looks like they're only $47 now. Jackpot!! Thanks for watching.
Hey Brett, Good instructional video. Makes complete sense. I've put up some similar fence around some large pens in the past - mostly for calves. And I've put up a fair amount of barbed wire fence over mostly flat and rolling terrain, but I'll be putting up this quality goat fence over a terrain that is mostly hilly and steep in places. Any suggestions for me? Also, I did see the model number of the Knipex wire cutters.
Yes when you go from hill top to hill top. Don't over tighten the wire. I usually tightened it until the fence was about 5 feet off the ground at the low point. Then I drove a pipe, pulled the fence down with my stretch bar and skid steer and wired it to the pipe. The grapple clips are a must for me when you're attaching the fence to your end braces.
@@addisonranch Okay, what about the position of the T-posts? Should they be perpendicular to the ground or put in vertically? I've had people tell me both ways. It seems to make more sense that they would be perpendicular, especially on steep terrain, so they would line up with the 48" goat fence. Thanks, Dennis
@@addisonranch Okay, Thanks. I've got probably 2,500 lineal feet of fence to install and nearly all of it will be on hilly to steep on rocky (soil) terrain.
Have you used high tensile Bekaert field fence? It is high tensile like your Stay Tuff. I agree fixed knot is superior but I can get high tensile 47" field fence interest-free for 48 months for $210 for a 330' roll.
What kind of warranty is on the wire? Never mind I just realized your talking about Field Fence. I would HIGHLY discourage ever using that. If your heart is set on it I’ve of got several rolls of the same type fence by Sheffield that I would sell cheaper than that😳😳

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't field fence just describe the pattern of the wire? Your fix knot is probably a high tensile fixed knot field fence?
I’m not 100% sure of the specific names. I think they all fall under “net wire”. They’ve always been referred to like I said in the video. Which is how I’ve referred to them for 21 years. That doesn’t mean I’m right😂😂 however it does mean it will keep me from getting confused when I’m talking about them😂😂😂. Thanks for the comment.😁
I think fixed knot and field fence are both called “net fence” but I will never use field fence again. I would probably use barb wire before field fence but fixed knot is the best.
@@addisonranch Ok thanks....I'm trying to figure out if something like Red Brand woven wire for sheep and goats the same as field fence or is it fixed knot .....regardless thanks for this video it's a massive help to a Beginner

OK, thank you so much! How do I find out how many joules I need for my length of fence? Also, do I need to use that huge metal pole for bracing? I don’t have heavy machinery like you do. Hey Andrea, The brace is totally dependent on the type of fence. If you're looking at an electric fence you can totally use a tree for the brace. The tree will grow around the wire you tie to the tree so it will need to be retied based on that. Joules for the fence is a hard one. I would figure out how many feet of wire you will be electrifying and start there. Then get in touch with someone like Kencove Fencing and tell them what your doing, how many feet of wire and potential brush. NEVER under power your fence for goats.
