People, stop being ideologues; I'm Muslim, didn't vote Trump, and at end of the day I can separate my personal beliefs and politcal views from my professional decorum and intellectual understanding of science. Take this as an example, Perry Farrell supports the Israeli Defense Forces in tyrannizing Palestinian Civilians and pushing for settlements, doesn't mean Jane's Addiction didn't make great music. It is intrinsically political as science lets us shape the world around us, which in turn shapes how society works and as a result the political landscape. Society is jelly and science is the mold.

Science has no ideology guiding it. Science is completely indifferent on these matters. Science is an instrument, a method, a way of extracting information...how It impacts society is mutually exclusive from whether it's concerned with that impact. That's the ethics of science, not science itself. Thus science is apolitical. When science becomes political, it is no longer science.
Scientific results are an important input to political debate and politics at all levels influences the science that we do. Science is political not in principle, but in practice. In a vacuum it is neutral, in reality it isn't.

I can tell you why, even though I'm not a rightist.It's because during the periods they became active in science, the right were almost entirely ideologues who had anti-scientific views. The left of their time were free thinkers whose philosophy was conducive to scientific progress. Now in 2017, this has changed. The Left has become saturated with ideologues, which is anti-scientific, and although they right is also laden with ideologues, it is not as much as with the current Left, hence why there's a split within intellectual communities like science to sway towards the right, because they're seen as a lesser of the evils in the present day.
Pretend you are a minority, like a gay person, and that you believe that this new president wants to destroy you. Doesn't matter if it's true or not, just pretend you believe it's true. How would you react if you had that belief?
