    In 1534, Mosul, Kirkuk, Erbil, Sulaimaniya, the southwestern region of Azerbaijan, became part of the Ottoman Empire during the war between the Safavid state and the Ottoman state, and in 1926, as a result of an agreement of June 5 between Turkey and England, Mosul, Kirkuk , Erbil, the lands of Sulaymaniyah were transferred under the control of Iraq. Fantastic video. Really informative. A question around nightlife in Baghdad. Are there any bars or places to get a beer? Or is that frowned upon?

    • @SincerelyRaman
      @SincerelyRaman  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks much, glad if it could help. Do keep in mind that it has been a while since I made the video. So for any critical facts, check the latest info. I didn't drink in Baghdad as all the people I happened to make friends with happened to be Muslim, so we only drank tea and smoke shisha 😄. But there are a surprising number of liquor stores in Baghdad, and a number of bars as well. I did go out once I got to the Kurdistan region though 🙂. Loved Iraq, would visit again in a heartbeat!

    Are the hotels expensive? How did you get with the locals that were showing you around was it before your trip?

    • @SincerelyRaman
      @SincerelyRaman  2 роки тому

      In Iraq, most things are very affordable. The biggest expense will be hotels. Or if you book private drivers. I contacted locals through Facebook group Iraqi Travellers Cafe. You can join it and contact locals before you arrive !

    Thank you for the information! I have a question. Can we land at Basra and get a state visa from the airport or only from Baghdad airport?

    • @SincerelyRaman
      @SincerelyRaman  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching ! It depends on where your passport is from. Some passports can get Visa on arrival at Basra. Also these policies can change over time. So depending on your passport you'll need to confirm the latest policy. Iraq is a great place to visit though for sure.

    • @SincerelyRaman
      @SincerelyRaman  10 місяців тому

      Thanks, glad it helped ! How long you stay in each place really depends on how much time you have on your whole trip. Generally, people only do a day trip to Samara. 2 or 3 nights in Basra and 2 or 3 nights in Nasiriyah. 2 nights in Najaf. People with less time can make the stops even shorter, and people with more time can slow down and stay longer 🙂

    could you please recommend to me a hotel in Baghdad and Karbala? booking a couple of hotels would be fine or should I have already all my stay booked from the start? Thanks!

    • @SincerelyRaman
      @SincerelyRaman  2 роки тому

      All the hotels are in the map that I have linked in the video description. As for booking in advance, the main thing you should watch out for, is that the religious cities, especially Karbala and Najaf, get FULL on special dates and anniversaries, and prices can triple (still affordable though). If you know what date you are visiting Karbala and it happens to be on a special holiday/anniversary, etc, then you might want to pre-book. Otherwise, I didn't find a need to pre-book. Cheers

    Your video was really helpful.. the only thing i want to ask is how can I Travel to Mosul directly from Samarra or Baghdad and which route shall I Take

    • @SincerelyRaman
      @SincerelyRaman  День тому

      Glad the video was helpful. I made this guide 2 years ago, so some things could have changed since then! However, based on my experience, you should go to Erbil first, and then Erbil to Mosul. If you are in Baghdad or Samarra, you can ask if there is a vehicle going to Mosul. And if they say yes, just ask them if they go to Erbil first on the way. If yes, then it should be fine. But if they are not going to Erbil first and are taking a shortcut instead, then I would suggest that you first take a separate transport to Erbil, and another transport to Mosul. Again, my experience is from 2 years ago, but this is my advice based on that experience. Enjoy! It's an incredible country 🙂
