The RM School of Music is based here in Portsmouth. Every bandsman has to study two instruments full time for three years before passing out and going to one of the bands.
The soloist is Cpl. Sam McIndoe. She has been soloist with this band for a few years. She has served as a field medic with the Marine Corps. If you want to hear more of this guitarist I recommend Top Gun theme from their 2024 Royal Albert Hall Festival. Awesome band. Also, another recommendation is The Music of Sir Elton John. This is amazing and also featuring the guitarist and vocalist here along with one of the greatest saxophonists I’ve ever heard who retired from the band this year. Cheers.
I have to be honest, even though she can sing her voice is not what I want to hear on the song. That song is better with a guy and male deeper voice singing on it. The band is amazing though. My brother a few years back retired after 24 years as a British Sgt Mgr for the Rifles, used to be the Light Infantry
@@helencantle5010 It's all about opinion, in my opinion she sounds shite and the only reason we are listening to her is Woke identity politics telling me how amazing women are
This song was written about the Falklands War and the soldier shot is believed to be Lieutenant Lawrence shot by an Argentinian Sniper on mist covered Mt Tumbledown as the Argentinians were retreating to Port Stanley...he was shot in the head and lost a large part of his brain...his fellow soldiers saved his life as he pronounced KIA twice but managed to survive...the Brithers in Arms is not just about your fellow soldiers, its also about the soldiers they were fighting as being Brothers in Arms as the British had a great deal of respect for the opposing forces as a lot of them were conscripts, plus the Argentinian Air Force who were incredibly brave during the conflict, however although the British were out numbered 10 to 1 and the Argentinians embedded in positions , most were conscripts and lacked the training to fight a war against professional soldiers ...
You found the perfect word, captivated! Wow, they are beyond great! Never heard them before but so glad i was introduced to them here, perfect for a lazy sunday, closing down early, puts me in a calm, happy place, makes this resident curmudgeon not even want to turn out the flying monkeys today😂😂😂, thank you as always, going to give this one another listen
There are two parts to the Royal Marines: Royal Marine Commandos and the Royal Marine Band Service. Women have been able to join the RM Band Service for quite a few years now. The Bandies aren't green beret Commandos but are trained as infantry soldiers and undertake medical and logistic roles when deployed. Look closely and you will see Afghanistan medals. A band also deployed to the Falklands War for service on board the hospital ship. Up to now there have been no female RM Commandos but, with the success of a few women achieving their green beret on the All Arms Course (commando training for those already serving in other military units), it has been opened up for those few women who can achieve the fitness requirements. At least one female RM Band NCO has been posted to RMTC Lympstone for any female commando trainees (as the Bandied currently have the only female marines).
Suggestion: Instrumental version from HM Royal Marines 'I Vow To Thee My Country'. Played at the Royal Albert Hall during an Annual Remembrance Festival Event which we hold on the Saturday before the date of the WW1 Armistice (11.11.18). It's also the day before the Remembrance Sunday events all around the country and, internationally, at Whitehall, London in front of the Cenotaph. (National Monument of Mourning). Have you reacted to 'The Unknown Warrior'. It's the story of UK's unknown soldier, it has original film footage and was put together by HM Royal Marines, who play the music. Great
Just for those who may not know in times of conflict or war the RM band service are not the Royal Marines Commandos, they are the PR, if you like of the Royal Marines in toto. However they are trained in a combat role as Field Medics, stretcher bearers amongst other duties unless they have completed the All Arms Commando Course and are entitled to wear the coveted Green Beret, which in that case they may be tasked for other duties in theatre. I am qualified to say so that our 'Royals' really are the best in the world.
Utterly different genre but check out the vid if this lass singing 'I vow to thee my country'; to begin with there's her and a drummer on a mist covered hillside then they're joined by a male singer.

🇬🇧❤️🇬🇧 thank you for your service many respects from 🇬🇧
You need to see him playing the Top Gun theme and her duet of “the Sound of Silence”. Great reaction.

Along with the Top Gun Anthem I would recommend Maiden Legacy from the same show, it’s mind blowing
@@overthewebbI think she has a fantastic voice and there is a male solo too so they obviously considered her voice best for this piece

They have their own UA-cam channel where you find plenty of differant videos

She's Royal. May not be a Green Beret (completed the Commando Course), but likely to be a fully Trained Field Medic. She serves her Brothers in Arms.
Indeed mate.
And Sisters in Arms
@@ORDEROFTHEKNIGHTSTEMPLAR13 Apologies. I had no idea that there were Sisters serving in the Royal Marine Commandos?
@@goodandbadtimes No problem bro but you got me thinking now if there are women Iin the RM COMMANDOS ??

No, thank you. I’ll check it out.
I have watched it so many times now. Its a great mix of true film from 1920 and the RM band of musicians.

Try the Sound of Silence which they did to highlight mental health in serving and veterans
I'd love to hear/see Knopfler's reaction...
Me too. I think he'd be very impressed, perhaps even honoured by their rendition of his work.
Their so good can do anything
Her 'other' instrument is a Drum Set!
Seeing these guys in concert in Dec- CANNOT WAIT!! This ex Jenny will be in heaven! 🤟
Sam is amazing.
There's another one (the sound of silence)
It would be better to watch if you had the picture bigger and yourself smaller.
Do you like drums? If so, almost any demonstration by the RM drum corps.
Do flight of the silver birds from two steps from hell
Who are they??
Didn't really like the GLADIATOR HANS ZZIMMER video...
