One of the best stipulations to let the wiley veteran go over the younger wrestler but because of the sheer brutality still makes the young guy look so strong. This was one of the best matches I've seen in awhile.

This match could’ve main evented in any promotion, in any era. CM Punk and MJF are my two favorite talkers in the world of pro wrestling right now and they never disappoint in the ring.

Time for some thoughts:
- The look on the fans faces after MJF trolled them by switching the theme songs: Priceless
- Punk coming out to Miseria Cantare was awesome. The visuals were fantastic and it really adds to the atmosphere. It got great reviews from what i've seen. I would absolutely consider switching to this theme song, If I was Punk. Especially if future creative leads to where I think it's gonna go, Which would be wild as f*ck.
- I completely disagree with the criticism of the thumbtack spot from Cornette. It wasn't using thumbtacks for the sake of using thumbtacks. It was very deliberate in adding tension for the viewers. Psychology 101. Now should thumbtacks be used for every single hardcore/gimmick match. Absolutely not. I wouldn't make that a habit. Use it specifically for big time feuds only. It worked so good with this one because it's one of the last things you would imagine being in a CM Punk or MJF match. (If your a casual)
- Great ring psychology. Refreshing to see as well. Especially when there is a contingent in the industry that could be in the ring with the grim reaper and I swear, They probably wouldn't even sell their own death.
- The Wardlow spot was great. "Ooops"
- All together, This was a fantastic match. Loved it. The highlight of the PPV in my opinion and that says something considering I believe this is the best PPV AEW has put together from top to bottom. Kingston & Jericho and Mox & Danielson, Were right up there as the best matches of the night, On a card that was filled with great matches.
Now with that said. I'm gonna get back to spamming the top comments with AEW angles & creative ideas.
Fs not any era
@@lracseroom8286 your clueless if you think otherwise. I wish WWE could have a match as good as this. I still watch and hope for them and they keep producing shit. This match was excellent
Punk did what Jericho thought he was doing in AEW all these years in less time. Getting younger talent over. He was able to get both MJF and Wardlow to the next level in this feud.
They won't b to the next level until they at least get a title shot.. Mjf has been in the same spot since he's been their. Cole's been there less time already got a title shot
@Jaime A. Nah, in this promotion next level should be being the world champion. Mjf has basically lost to each older ex wwe guy in the end regardless of beating them more. Wardlow hasn’t been pushed. Getting some squash matches with some being competitive isn’t exactly being pushed. Being built ok. But aew still has trouble booking big guys long term. He’ll be lost after mjf is finished with him I guarantee you that
Didn't Jericho help get Sammy G, Santana and Ortiz over?? In the same way he's going to get 2point0 and Daniel Garcia more over?
@@rockstarmofo9249 Sammy maybe but Santana and Ortiz not yet. S&O joined Inner Circle and basically became obedient minions stuck in Jericho's feuds, sure they've had title opportunities but never actually go anywhere with it. I'd say at most Jericho lazer focused on Sammy until he knew he could be on his own and is just now (at the start of the Kingston feud) focusing on S&O.
In short, S&O got themselves over while Jericho showered Sammy with spotlight and support.
@@Daxter-hl7dw The Inner Circle was the platform that S&O used to get over. Without the association with Jericho, they'd be just another tag team lost in the shuffle.
At least being in the Inner Circle gave them some cache as they were lost in the shuffle. There was no reason to pay special attention to them otherwise

This is how brilliant Pro wrestling storyline is told backed with brilliant fighting and angle where the emerging baby face Wardlow is turned into full baby face. That's how professional wrestling business should be presented. Punk made MJF look like a million bucks. The feud between wardlow and MJF will be fantastic.
CM Punk's best quality always has been his mind. He is very intelligent and knows exactly what he's doing in terms of psychology.
Thats true... Not to say that he's not a great worker because he is... but he's always been better with his mind and the mic than anything else. He's just got a way of taking even things that are ridiculous, and making them feel real and right.

Other than just the general quality of the feud and match in general, the best thing about it to me is that it made not just one but two stars. MJF was always right at the precipice into greatness, and this feud put him past the threshold. And in the meantime, Wardlow is set up to become a huge babyface star with however his feud with MJF is going to go.

This match was beautiful. The thumbtack spot was questionable (it was literally hurting the ref) but other than that…. This was a great, bloody match. Made MJF a main event star and CM Punk a threat. @@spiritplanes2453 nah, that Jericho was super hindering. And what? If anything, it showed that Punk can still do a high caliber match. He was and will always be a main event star
The thumbtacks is something I'd expect in some backyard wrestling match...not this... it's like they can't be creative enough with the dog collar itself so they go with the tacks...tacky and uncreative
Agree on all points.
Ever since Punk returned, he has done his best work. He was great before, in WWE, but this has been Punk showing all his talents like never before. Great job!
A lot of guys are doing their best in AEW. Daniel Bryan is having his greatest run right now as well.
@@jasonkraatz9574 true, though Punk wrestling at this level is another level of amazing given the 7 year break from the business, whereas everyone recognises Danielson as arguably the greatest wrestler in the world (IMO it's either him or Okada), that being said it's a testament to Danielsons ability that he has started in AEW at such a high level. This match reminded me a lot of the Raven vs Punk from ROH, best feud of that era in my opinion
Yes it’s even had the same referee
They pulled a lot from that feud in telling this story. The quote about a monster, which Punk mentioned on Rampage....he said the same thing during his feud with Raven. There were a lot of throwbacks from what I have read.
That punk vs raven was just in TNA too
1:00 A Fire Inside (AFI) used to be a punk band, before this time that they're discussing. Their first several years were punk rock, then they transitioned to the emo rock that Brian mentions (they got pretty huge at the Hot Topics parade). Go listen to their album Black Sails On The Sunset, if you want to hear their best one they ever made.
I prefer the emo era days of Phoenix and Sing the sorrow. But their punk stuff is punk at the best imo.
I was never a big fan of AFI for a variety of reasons, but Black Sails is actually a really solid album from start to finish.
This was an incredible match from start to finish.
I think Danielson and Punk are setting a tone and it looks like Jericho is starting to match it too. The shows have definitely been steadily trending upwards quality wise
I got chills during Punk's entrance. Brilliant first use of the ROH purchase
I had never watch Punk in ROH stuff. Was introduced to him in WWE.
But that entrance gave me chills too. I've watched it probably 50x. I had never heard the AFI song either or even liked AFI. But now I've got that song on repeat lol.
*AFI being mentioned by Jim & Brian was something I never thought we'd ever hear them discuss, but here we are!! Also I've never heard their music described as well as Brian just did here. \m/*
I've had the song stuck in my head all week. It really brought me back in time. Now that I think of it, his is the THIRD time CM Punk has reinvigorated my love for pro wrestling. What a damn hero.
Definitely should become his theme song going forward.

I'd love to hear Jim do a review of the All Hallows EP or Black Sails in 2 minutes or less.
I respect Jim's opinion, and I was balls deep watching this match. So good, but when I saw MJF grab the black silk bag, it's the visual cue "It's Thumbtacks". I thought, "Ooo do we need this?" I even thought "Corny's gonna go apeshit". However they won me over that neither man WANTED to take the fall on the tacks, they were pain, not a silly gimmick. They wanted to avoid them. So when the spot followed through, it was earned, and MJF's sell was top notch.

All due respect to Hangman Page but come on. After MJF/Punk you can see the difference between a world champion and a midcarder.
Not quite the same but the position Page is in reminds me of situation Punk was in. Being the champion while Rock and Cena were feuding.

@JMan If someone has you hanging off the side ledge of a building, By your ankles, and onlookers down below see this. Will they - A) Feel tension because someone MAY potentially be dropped to their death or - B) Say "Hanging someone by their ankles over the side of a building has been whored out & played out. I won't fall for that. I don't believe you." and proceed to walk away. There is elements of psychology in every thing you do, on a daily basis. Like the voice telling you that "I'm wrong" is called "Your ego"
Yes. There certainly is psychology to that moment and the use of thumbtacks in that match. Now has thumbtacks, light tubes, etc. Been whored out? I would actually disagree with that as well, Because NOTHING of the sort has EVER went on mainstream television until the past year. ECW didn't even use light tubes if my memory recalls, That was a CZW creation and CZW is hardly a mainstream wrestling company. So this makes me think in line that you actually go specifically LOOKING for those types of matches because thats the only way you will find them. Hence: How would you know that they are played out if they aren't mainstream.
So we are in complete disagreement when it comes to your descriptions & definitions. Do I think that thumbtacks should be used sparingly at best. Yes. Is there psychology in the use of them. Yes.
I agree with you. If there ever was a match where the thumbtacks were justified, this was it. We should be more open-minded when it comes to this stuff - MJF is a cocky, sadistic little prick, and this is a blood feud. He doesn't just want to beat Punk, he wants to hurt him as much as possible. Of course he's gonna use thumbtacks.
Punk just proved why he always was underrated, He made amazin fued with MJF, To add to his collection
The tacks were just kind of meh for me, but I have to agree with Jim on one thing that GTS on the tacks was silly. The GTS is supposed to knock you out I don't care if you land on a bunch of tacks you aren't supposed to have that kind of a reaction. Everything else was great.
This was brilliant. The chain was huge but it worked out. Everything meant something in this match just take those 2 punches MJF gave CM Punk to make him bleed it was done perfectly, head was busted wide open. The wrestling back & forth was great with selling, like where he hurt his knee on the stairs came into where Punk later collapses, I knew Jim would hate the tumb tacks hahahahaha okay it was unnecessary but I know they did it for a section of the audience but it is stupid & needless in a match of this quality. I liked that Wardlow betrayed MJF here it was great & it allows for us to get a Wardlow vs MJF feud soon too. CM Punk getting spit on & smashing MJF in the head with the ring was perfect for the finish 123 & we can sit back & say yep that was very good.
Sing the Sorrow is the AFI record. Great songs and really interesting dark guitar sound.
Jeff Hardy is All Elite!
He's also broken down and washed up.
this was the best match for me for this entire 5 hours of AEW Revolution matches including the Buy-In and I totally agree that this should at least be at the main event spot of all the match cards or before Adam Cole vs Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Champion match cos no other matches could follow that match after that
Harley Race actually taught Punk how to blade, so it's no wonder he's a magician at it. I saw him straight up punch poke his head towards the hard cam during MJF's punches. Awesome stuff.
I Def noticed the blade spot wasn't really hard to miss
trying to explain AFI to Jim is incredible
I think the thumbtacks added great value to the match. Made it more violent, more brutal.
I say again, the entire purpose of the Dog collar match is to accentuate how dangerous, painful and punishing the dog collar and chain are as an entity. The point is that you shouldn't need any other weapon.

Miseria Cantare from Sing the Sorrow by AFI (initials for "A Fire Inside") which was a punk rock band prior to releasing that album.
I had a promo CD for it playing in my car not long ago; so, that song was instantly familiar, I just wasn't sure if it was from professional wrestling or not.
The thumbtack spot was unnecessary, good match tho

When they broke out the thumbtacks i could hear Jim sigh from across the pond.
I get the feeling Brian knew the name of the AFI song, he just was unsure of how to pronounce 'Miseria Cantare'...
I honestly thought that Jim would have hated this match. I thought he would like 85% of the match until the thumbtacks came out. I could see him saying “they put a hat, on a hat. And him turn off the PPV, glad to hear that he enjoyed it! Definitely match of the evening and another star making performance from MJF.
It was definitely a hat on a hat. Too much. Kinda gross and doesn’t encourage a re-watch.

Agreed.
If Tony was smart. He'd let punk book AEW. Not sure if punk is up for it but he can really keep the show consistent and with higher quality. He can at least do some quality control on all the segments.
Punk becoming one of Cornys favorite wrestlers speaks volumes about Punk. There's a reason so many old school guys respected him
Corny looks like Bono in the artwork haha
It's great to hear Corny so excited about a wrestling match... and an AEW match, to boot. I hope they learn from this feud. More, please.
I think Cornette by saying Cm Punk has the magic touch was referring to how he bladed in the match. See if you can catch it when you rewatch the match.
I don't always agree with Cornnette, but this time he's right about the thumb tacks not being necessary. Other then that great finish & good way of leading into the Wardlow feud.
Yeah. The tacks were totally unnecessary.
AFI being mentioned on Jim Cornette’s podcast just made my day 😎😎😎

He had an interview where he talked about getting color. He knows so many of the old school tricks.
Very quick wasn’t sure if he did it at first until the blood came along
@@tonyjackson4078 gonna check that out
If the thumbtack spot wasn’t so over done and used in every aew and shindy show ever it would’ve been great
The crowd was literally singing his theme song
I was also complaining about use of the thumbtacks in a chain match. No need
Whoever drew the thumbnail is a genius LOL!
I literally said "Oh max no. Put the bag back, no. Not now. Ah fuck."
AFI is my all-time favorite band and to see them become so relevant in wrestling circles recently is truly surreal.
How many legends that you “respect” and “love” have used thumbtacks, Jim?
I love when MJF gets on the mic during a match and talks trash, Punks "Eat shit Max" response was amazing lol
This has been the best feud in wrestling and I loved Punk coming out to his ROH theme and old attire. It made sense from the very beginning of the feud MJF was calling him PG Punk and wanting the old him. Good storytelling and good match
Had MJF said in a promo that:
He had that picture with Punk tacked onto his wall and after Punk abandoned him, he would spend hours on those bad days jabbing that thumbtack over and over again into Punk's head hoping that by some miracle or voodoo that Punk would feel it.
It would've made that thumbtack spot make sense. Anything can be used in wrestling, but it has to be built to.
