They are behaving exactly like they did with fallout 3 (buggy game with mediocre roleplay and storytelling) the only diference is that they cant create more half broken-obsolete games without people noticing it.

If you read the label it’s normal rum with colouring. So it’s cheap clear rum with added colouring to make it look more expensive and darker.

It is so ironic and poetic. I mean among those things that happened in the Fallout Universe that led to the Nuclear War were greed (corruption), lying (lack of transparency) and dismissive thinking. I mean it's all inspired by the real world, but it's damn hypocritic to produce anything Fallout related while deceiving consumers by lack of transparency just to milk money.

So I got the Nuka Dark rum delivered yesterday. After finding out last week how much of a rip-off the rum is I decided I wasn't going to accept the package when it showed up. According to their website if it's refused three times and I never pick it up I would get refunded for the cost of the rum, just not the shipping. Now sense its alcohol an adult is required to sign for the rum. It even says on the website and the packing slip that an adult signature is required upon delivery. The thing is, nobody was home to recieve it. So, I look up the tracking number and it turns out they forged my fucking signature. They even used some weird shipping company called GSO so they could get away with it. The same thing happened to my friend too. He was at work and when he got home it was sitting in front of his door. When he checked online his signature was also forged. These guys are complete scum

Shit, shit SHIT people already ordered that thing! We gotta figure out how to make the product look like THIS." - "Well, how about a plastic casing? Would set us back a few weeks, but..." - "Do that. As long as the product _looks_ like what we advertised, we'll be fine."

I'm really surprised because they don't seem apologetic in their actions at all. I understand the jokes and comparisons to other developers but this is a complete 180 for Bethesda. Its one of those situations that just does not make sense. There's such a massive disconnect.
I genuinely feel sorry for the people who have a deep interest in the game, who actively participate in the game and want to buy the additional merchandise. They want to support them, they're promised one thing and then given something that doesn't even seem to work properly. Its a bit of a let down for them.
Fallout 76, the canvas bag and nuka dark rum are particularly funny in their irony. Fallout games have loads of stories of corporate wrongdoing in terminals and holotapes. "We determined that one of the components of the product was not up to Fallout standards" honestly sounds like it could have come from a terminal in one of the games. As does "Please contact Bethesda Support to provide proof of your CE purchase. They will assist in granting your account 500 atoms'. How can you forget when one customer was told that Bethesda "didn't plan on doing anything" about the canvas bag situation! It's laughable and perfectly ironic that this all comes in the wake of a Fallout game.

@@demetriuss6101 The legality depends on advertising and consumer protection laws in individual areas. It is generally illegal to give your customers a product that is different from what was advertised/purchased.
As a person who works in production, I would place all the fault of this blunder on bethesda and not the bottling company.
In my case, I make specialized packaging for companies. For example if you want a special container shaped like a diamond, the company I work for would make that sort of thing.
And in these scenarios I can say 2 things.
1: These things *should* be planned far in advance. For example just 2 weeks ago I already started cutting special packaging for Easter.
2: In these scenario's if the Bottling company is in any way competent they would be checking everything with Bethesda. Going back to my example of the Diamond shaped packaging, if I'm given an order like that to produce we'll go through many phases of testing, shipping the product off to the customer for approval. Try out different materials, designs, test how the product fits in the packaging, test how the packaging fits when packed in a box for shipping to their plant, and everything is to be checked and approved by the company contracting us before the design is finalized and we begin proper production.
Either Bethesda waited too long to give the Bottling plant time to produce these specialized glass bottles, or just said fuck it from the get-go and ordered the rum to be placed in these bullshit plastic case-bottles.
Yeah I work in the packaging industry in a way also and I know for a fact designers get a working full scale sample before production gets the green light for shipping, display, distribution...
I love your production insight. It goes along how i would conduct business if i were to do such a thing. I would be pissed if someone in my company gave the "ok" for that crap.

That's what I thought. You may blame the manufacturer for shipping delays if you wish, but not the quality of the product. Someone at Bethesda sat down at some point, looked at the product (as it is now) and said: "Yes, that's OK, you can start mass producing and shipping these." That's not a decision the bottling company makes, that's a decision someone at Bethesda made.

I feel like Silver Screen Bottling Company had a fantastic glass bottle originally conceived for shipping, but when they were told it had to be up to Fallout standards, they had to can the glass bottle production, downgrade the product, then perform a sneaky bait and switch to ensure they had well and truly upheld the standards of Fallout. The only way they could have upheld the Fallout Standard better would be to blatantly ignore or flippantly disregard any inquiries into the delayed delivery.
Now if they really want to uphold the Fallout Standard they had damn well better off a $5 coupon redeemable on their other products as compensation for this inferior bait and switch product.

You can buy a bottle of Castillo rum for literally 7 dollars. It's not the best rum. But I'm fairly certain Bethesda isn't going top shelf either. However that shows you how cheap it is to produce a decent product. So essentially they are charging at least 50 dollars for a piece of plastic. Maybe there's a glass shortage as well. This is ridiculous. I'm done with company.

From what I found the rum they are using contains a ton of caramel which is used to fake an aged and expensive look in cheap rum. Take with that what you will

Bethesda is solely responsible for this. Silver Screen Bottling Company would have been approached by Bethesda, they would have issued a quote with specifications for production. Bethesda would have signed off on this, and production would have then commenced. There is no chance Bethesda wasn't aware of the bottle fiasco.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet or not, but the worse thing really isn't the cheap arse plastic case the bottle is shipped in. It's the fact the Rum contains caramel. That's added to make the Rum look like it's aged and expensive. It's not. It's most likely the cheapest Rum they could source. I wouldn't pay 25$ for it.

Wrong. Mass producing such a bottle would break regulations in the bottling industry. Thats the most likely reason for what happened here with nuka dark rum. The bottling industry has strict standards
A new, custom mold to create the rocket shaped, glass bottles would have had to have been made by the bottling company. This would have been expensive to make and, most likely, impractical in the long run since this was supposed to be a limited edition item. My guess is that the bottling company was like, "Hey, Bethesda, it's gonna cost $X to make the new mold and $X for production." To which Bethesda probably said, "Yeah, we're not paying that. What else can we do?" and the bottling company said, "Well, we have a ton of regular bottles already and a mold for plastic would be way cheaper and we can just make black/white paper stickers. It would save you $X." To which Bethesda replied, "Great! Those nerds won't know the difference!", had an orgasm, and approved.
Not to mention, businesses don't advertise products to sell before cost is taken into account (cost of production being the foundation of determining what price you want to see an item for). Whatever all the options were for this product they would have had specs outlined and quotes made (most likely by more than one company) before even making the decision to proceed, let alone sell.... assuming of course anyone in the company has a lick of business sense.
On the nuka dark rum website contact page, they explicitly state that this plastic thing was 2x more expensive than if they had done it with a glass mould. Maybe they're lying? idk

This started to feel almost deliberate about 3 or 4 blunders ago, as if they are trying to completely destroy whatever good faith their player base had in them. I have no idea why they would do this but watching Bethesda and Fallout 76 right now is like watching somebody having a mental breakdown right in front of you.
I just hope Doom Eternal and Rage 2 get out ok at this point. I could care less about Starfield or ES6. But if it does come to the company failing I will miss Fallout.
I work in Fulfillment (on the IT side) and I can tell you that I'm pretty sure I know exactly what happened. Frankly, this started as a failure in administration compounded by a failure in marketing facing a fault in engineering and a lossy product.
Take the 'classic nuka-cola bottle shape'. Let us say that the fulfillment company had originally intended to fulfill the product as a custom glass bottle. Unfortunately, that bottle comes with multiple points of failure in shipping - in fact, it's quite likely that the delay was caused by outsourcing the bottle & label creation to a custom job from a certain country. While the prices are great, the quality is... less so. Or worse yet, the quality was fine, but when they received the shipment due to (classic cost cutting by said companies) the bottles arrived in a ~75% failure state. Chipped glass, broken wings, fried labels, etc.
So, now the company is scrambling to come up with an alternative, because they were already running under tight margins due to the niche nature of the product. In a moment of desperation, an engineer points out that 3d-printing can churn out facades in a short period of time - no need to spend high dollars on molds. Additionally, as they are already a bottling company, bog-standard glass booze bottles are cheap and easily sourced.
Of course, the could have had the option of re-negotiating the contract w/Bethesda, or at least definitely should have. Frankly, if I was Bethesda I'd have thrown them a loaner for getting a source along with a rider saying that all the people who pre-ordered the stuff would get full disclosure (maybe some social media unboxing vids of the busted bottles for humor!) and possible a nice box of chocolates as a 'we're sorry' gift since the delays would push them past X-mass. Of course, Bethesda treats their contractors like shit and are horrible to work with - just ask Obsidian - while demonstrating a certain blindness towards actual effective PR.
So, yeah, I could have seen this coming a mile away. It really does fit the current Fallout quality standards - a bad idea to start, plagued with engineering failures and exacerbated by a management team who doesn't think that this is really going to hurt their company that badly.
Which, if the next couple games are awesome... it might not, considering how slipshod and cheap everything involved has been. Spending comparatively little on Fallout 76's everything makes the 'losses' less of an issue... oh wait, never mind.
I forgot that the most pricey part of video-game development nowadays is advertising.

Listen to this bs response I got after my complaint which was sent to a Silverscreen Bottling Company rep quoting the COO.
"The packaging was a design that was months in the making and we went to great lengths to insure that no corners were cut. It cost over 2X what it would have if we would have simply cast a glass mold. We went through many prototypes, In all we had four different iterations of the design, two of which were glass exteriors. We determined that a glass bottle alone would not have been dramatic enough for the look we wanted. We wanted something big and bold. The dimensions are 13”x 6” and really good looking. It is roughly 60% larger than a standard 750 ml bottle and It will stand out on any bar. While we sincerely apologize for the delay, ultimately we are so proud of this product. Not just the presentation, but the rum inside the bottle as well. Just wait till you see it in person, I’m not sure the images do it justice. If you don’t agree when you receive yours please let me know and I will take care of you ."

I do apologize for harsh criticism to something you can't control but "big and bold" is not the appropriate choice of words for a plastic bottle design from which I've seen is flawed in every way all the way down to how it pours. Can I please just cancel my order even for a refund? Or do I have to receive the product to return it as stated in the email. I didn't pay 80$ for a plastic product (implying that 20$ will be deducted from shipping) and it is unfair that your marketing team made no effort to let us know that this is a plastic product until the bottling process began.

Believe it or not glass is really fucking expensive when you have to make custom orders like this. Why do you think custom glass vases, small or large, cost so much? Don't forget that this is a bottling company and not a glass forging or blowing company so they can't make the bottles themselves.

Nah. Bethesda knew. I used to work in product design for a bottling company. Special orders only begins production after both parties agree on the final product. We always offered unique designed bottles but costs blow through the roof and only big companies would accept this kind of deals. Most of them go for the traditional bottle catalog and pretty much just pay for a label. As someone that worked on that market I can say that Bethesda did not got for the cheaper option and went for the dollar above the average to get the plastic casing. As for the rum quality, I'm not familiar with Silver Screen but is rare for a bottle company to use the cheapest alcohol for custom orders. I'm going to order one, if the rum is a decent quality I might even say that it was a "fairish" deal. If not, I would agree with you for 80 dlls you can get a ton of good quality alcohol
A special order of custom glass bottles won't be cheap. When they found out how expensive it would cost, some smartass probably had the bright idea of slapping on a plastic casing instead. "The fans won't notice the difference!!!". It's most likely a case of "hey, it's cool idea for a collector's item!", but they didn't do the research beforehand to get an estimate of the production cost.

Doing a little extra legwork, I got in touch with a liquor company that ordered a bunch of these and initially put it on their website for preorders. Long story shortish, their demo bottle was the same PoS plastic snap cover, and they were extremely disappointed in the rum to boot, noting it's awful, cheap and flavored like coconut. For what they paid, they cancelled the order outright as they couldn't possibly charge more on top of their rate and ever expect to hold themselves accountable. Even a cursory glance at any image they used other than a full frontal shot, you can totally tell the seam was edited out. If that doesn't scream bait and switch or false advertising, I don't know what the hell else qualifies.
Like I said to another commentor on another video, they (Bethesda) licensed their name/invention on the tie-in and took the money. They sure as hell ought to get or keep themselves in the loop, but as I'm sure we're all aware, I doubt they can spare a body for more PR exposure.

@@hecc7906 I would argue that they did. What their customer base identifies as Nuka Cola is a drink bottled in that rocket-themed glass. The item makes a glass sound effect on contact with surfaces. Rum must be bottled in glass. The image showed the familiar bottle. This implies that the drink will be in a glass bottle shaped like the one pictured in the advertisement. You CANNOT argue otherwise. This scheme would not be a scam if the advertisement said something like "packed in a Nuka-Cola themed case" or "a replica of the Nuka-Cola game item".
@@Blackcloud288 Definitely this. I looked over the website and every bit of information about the Nuka Dark Rum and not once do they mention or show that the bottle you're seeing is a plastic shell housing the real bottle and not once do they show the real cheaply made bottles.

Bethesda had to approve the design. It is also likely that they were presented with multiple concept bottles so they would see the finished product and they specifically chose that bottle to mass produce. A person in a management position (most likely in advertising or the department in charge of merchandise) chose to push out that product.
I would aim a guess and say that the person responsible for the canvas bag fiasco is the same idiot in charge of this bottle, because the campaigns vs. Final product is very similar. I'm thinking that the dingleberry thought they would earn a promotion by increasing profits vs the projected profits, and it really backfired on them. I wouldn't be surprised if they lost their job or at the very least were taken from a leadership role.
