I think it's definitely important to scrutinize bethesda for these sneaky money schemes in public because they do make good games, skyrim obviously being their largest success (arguebly because of the modding community). I still want more games from them but i want to make sure that they get their shit together through feedback from the players and fans of their game because THEY are the people that know what makes the games so good, bethesda probably doesn't know that or is less aware of it.

I'll admit, I was on the Bethesda hype train after Skyrim. But this shit is just too much. If Starfield is even a fraction as bad as 76, they don't deserve to make ES6.
And after a quick break, water is wet
Personally, I've loved Bethesda's approach to making games before 76. Yes, Skyrim and Oblivion were made a bit lazy, I'll admit, though one could argue it was lazy in a deliberate sense given how Bethesda had racked up a massive modding community with Morrowind and Fallout that only kept getting larger after; so they worked with the knowledge that the modders were there to touch up, and so focused on making the product broader every time.
Not so with 76, being online, where the modders can't come to save it, and we can finally start to see where Bethesda's work-shy methods come to bite them in the ass. I'm told that a smaller sub-team within Bethesda's group was responsible for the game instead, and not Bethesda's main team, but I don't buy it, nor do I find that a valid excuse for what's transpired with the objectively-disastrous tailspin that's been this game's marketing campaign so far.
And as someone who's been a pretty flaws-and-all supporter of the Scrolls-verse and the lore behind it, I'm at least mildly worried about the next game. But only mildly. Okay, maybe a little more than that.
*Okay maybe very concerned I dunno.*

@Eiszapfen der wütenden Winde
I wouldn’t say they are weak minded just naive in that they believe a company will be bound by what they said.
1: The game hadn’t been released yet and Bethesda responded to the still growing anger towards micro transactions and loot boxes correctly (speaking from a business sense) by claiming Micro transactions wouldn’t be giving you a advantage to try and get people to buy the game.
2. The game came out of the water and landed on the deck flopping and gasping for air. They needed to recoup losses and fixing the game wouldn’t really bring the player base back and nor would it repair their reputation so why not include those lucrative micro transactions. This temporary buff micro transaction they put up was to test the waters and see if they could get away with it. I guarantee they will try a more permanent buff if this doesn’t get significant enough backlash.
I hatd Bethesda since they made FO4 into a damn minecraft game and when they were just relying on modders to make their games for them.

At this point, its like watching a building burn down to ash
Set on fire by the inhabitants no less, and they don't have a way out of there.
And then the ash burning to dust
It's like this:
An old man built a small shed, he added tools to it that other people could come and use to tend to his garden, as well as being able to eat some of the food.
He adds a barn onto the shed and now people drink the milk from the cows and ride the horses in return for caring for the animals.
Eventually his farm grows larger, it's not as nice anymore because he's not around to take care of it anymore.
Here's when fallout 76 comes out:
He suddenly goes crazy and burns the farm down, every promise he made to everyone enjoying the farm is broken. He doesn't even come by to see the farm anymore and instead just takes the extra money for his other farms. It's not good enough, he takes the ashes from the farm and all the small sticks and burns those down too.
While construction workers continue placing bricks and adding floors.
While the owner continues to try and repair the building mid-fire.
Can I sue Todd Howard for giving me clinical depression?

The radiant AI in oblivion thing is actually kind of a funny story. They couldn't stop the NPCs from eventually rioting and all killing each other, or becoming hoarders and buying up everything in all the shops, and other hilarious things. Basically, they had to tone the AI WAAAAY down in order for the NPC's to not just completely ruin the player experience.
Even after toning the radiant AI down, there were several unwanted interactions left over in the final product. There were street urchins who would steal food and get themselves murdered by guards, and stuff like that. Retail worker here again. Just wanted to say that at my store, a Walmart esque store in Ohio, no one has been buying Fallout 76. Now, we just got a recall of sorts that said to pull all copies from the shelves and to hold onto. Corporate would later determine how many we are to keep and how many we are to send back. That’s right, corporate is going to be pulling back the game that hasn’t sold (something it hasn’t done to Battlefield B for example, which also hasn’t sold at all) and will most likely sending it back to the publisher, because it’s hogging up shelf space and isn’t selling. I have never seen this happen to a game, that is a “major franchise release”, in my 17 1/2 years at the store. Truly, remarkable that not even our stores want the damn game.

Should be "days since last Fallout 76 blunder" at this point lmao
The fact that people still play this game is a sin. How can anyone possibly be so blind and desperately supportive of a game and company that literally doesn't give two flying shits?
Because they've become complacent with an industry that routinely serves up full-priced beta versions of a game with promises of "fixing it by the end of next year." It's just what they expect and therefor don't see anything wrong with it. They're willing to delude themselves on the promise of a playable future and get upset whenever someone points this out to them, to the point that they'll often double-down and support the busted release even more fervently just to spite you.
People don't like being told they fucked up. It's better to word the argument in a way that draws them to that conclusion themselves.
I doubt people are playing this game all that much. I'm sure people are playing, but not enough to warrant this constant news cycle lol it definitely is more fun to make fun of this game than it is to actually play it.

My favorite recently was Legends of Aira. This is a game that promised no p2w, and cosmetics only. Recently, the devs made a reddit post trying to rationalize how xp potions are not actually p2w so they can sell them in their cosmetics only shop. Needless to say, this did not go over well, and the devs had to rollback on that idea. While they did pull back on that, it just highlights what the future holds for that game as the devs will no doubt try to rationalize future p2w as not p2w.

Somehow I think there is 3 different organizations inside these companies:
-The devs, who do what they are told and try to do something cool with the tasks they are given - further subdivided between the drones and the people who care;
-The marketing department, who are precise with telling people what they want to hear - sometimes thinking they are being honest, but realistically they don't have the hand on the project;
-The guys up the ladder that says "Who cares? JUST DO IT! ITS GONNA BE ALRIGHT!".
Somehow that doesn't look like a good idea. And that is expecting not everyone involved is willing to screw up with their customers. Which I think there are not. But they are not the ones with the power.
Sooo....am I the only guy that waits for reviews before spending my hard earned money?
Nope. My boyfriend and I have both adopted that practice. The last game either of us pre-ordered was Skyrim. Game companies have proven time and time again to hype something up and make promises, only for it all to fall flat. We're cautious when we hear about preorders in the last few years. As long as millions of people keep buying them, things like these will never stop to happen. And look at the great controversy games like Star Wars Battlefront II and Battlefield V, despite all the hate and bad reputation surrounding them, they still sale over 9 millions and 7 millions copies respectively.

Bethesda sold items, that gave gameplay advantage only for some time? I don't know about you, but as far as I see it, this is all new levels of scummy...
No. It's a cosmetic item. The event ties to it, sure, but they make it clear that it's only an event to promote the items. Buy it or don't buy it. Either way, the buff is temporary. This is not as nearly of a problem as people make it out to be.
If it gives you gameplay advantage, it's not just cosmetic item. Even if for short period of time. Heck, especially if for short period of time, it's like you pay 2 win, but you can claim the victory, only in specific time frame. That's the most scammy thing about it.
@@peste2574 Delusional much?
