I really love the Russian Anthem, Brazilian Anthem and specially THE AZERBAIJAN ANTHEM
From Azerbaijan, to be honest I never expected anyone to give more than 30 seconds mention to our country in a list inclusive of the whole world but recognition is good when it deserves :)
Azerbaijan's national anthem is AMAZING, so much passion in it, it feels like it was genuinely written.
azerbaijani anthem is definitely one of the best ones in the world. It was composed by the greatest Azerbaijani composer of that time
Yes! Finally! Someone else that likes it! I am vindicated!!

Basing it on Wikipedia may be unfair, as Wikipedia likes picking random unstrumental versions, rather than the best version of each anthem.
My favourite anthems are *AZERBAIJAN,* Brazil, Ukraine, Russia, China, Argentina and Mexico.
Much love from Brazil!
Argentina and Mexico have fire anthems but they were done dirty here
This video is a year old so you’ll probably never see this, but Azerbaijan’s anthem is also my favorite, and as an avid f1 fan, I got to hear the best version of it that’s ever been performed before the race there a few weeks ago. Definitely worth a look

As a Native Azerbaijani Turk, I am very suprised that you love our Anthem ! Thank you !
Greetings from Baku City - Land of Fire !
🇦🇿😎👍🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
In my opinion, national anthems should not be judged on the basis of our usual music metrics like "Oh this sounds fire!" of curse, that's one aspect of it but not entirely. I would say that each country has its own perception of what their national anthem means to them or what it represents to the world. For example, Colonial Empires like Britain inspire pride in their monarchy and nation, the indian national anthem tells you how diverse the landscape and the states of the country are, the Turkish anthem perhaps boasts of their majestic history, some national anthem make you feel as if you're on a beach but thats their intended purpose as they convey the spirit of the nation. This is why the communist country have somewhat similar themed anthems in this music and meaning. More peaceful countries make you feel as though you are basking in the mild autumn wind on a clear day. I could go on and on just like this.
You see, a national anthem dosen't necessarily have to sound perfect.. It should do its intended purpose and that should be the metric to judge an anthem.
An anthem is far far greater than a simple piece of music, it conveys the struggles, culture, hope, history, present, future, mindset, and the will of all those who reside in that country. Not all nations want other nations to fear them, not all nations think of war 24/7, not all nation want to make a huge spectacle. In the end, its about what the essence of that nation is.

And like " _Kimi Ga Yo_ " is SO inspiring how in hell did it end up in E 😂
That's a difference in opinions, it would seem. I don't give two hecks about the lyrics of an anthem; this is a tier list of the music, the universal language. Kimi Ga Yo might be a beautiful, eloquent poem, but its notes and tune were boring and uninspired, so it got shoved into E.

What I like most about Brazil is that we have the national anthem being about our nature, our people, justice, freedom and then we have the independence anthem being a call to arms and mocking other nations.
The independence anthem literally says “there were more powerful hands (countries), Brazil mocked them” and “The Homeland shall be free or we shall die for Brazil” and “Amongst all nations of the universe, Brazil is the one to shine”.
Brazil is pretty cool, although I did not know all that about it. Interesting! I never took the lyrics into consideration.

I never heard of Azerbaijan's anthem before, but I would have to say it would probably be one of my favorites, too. It does resemble the Russian national anthem as well, which is also a favorite. It energizes my Slavic soul (and I'm of Polish descent! lol. Maybe is some of the Cossack ancestry in there). Speaking of Poland, Poland's anthem really, REALLY sounds like a high school pep rally. Some of the Central American anthems (like El Salvador) remind me of "cowboy music" (like the cavlary charge). I get that "Wild West" vibe. The only thing I really disagree with is Japan's anthem, which I actually quite like (although, maybe I'm remembering another version that was a bit faster and higher pitched).
Also, I would call Turkey's anthem (could be in my top 10 or 15) "Imperial". It really does sound like a fitting song for a mighty empire. The Ottoman Empire.
Italy's anthem sounds like some Tango Dance moves. Great Anthem Dance Battles.
The thing is...Azerbaijani anthem is older than Soviet-Russian
Central American marches remind me of military marches
Or it sounds like a 19th century movie scene from a military band or an amusement park. Like imagine women with corsets and dresses and men in top hats, tailcoats or flat caps
Let's face it the marches are good because they from 19th century mostly

the dominican anthem may officially be called "himno nacional", it might not be

i think that it fits the anthem as a whole

As an anthematologist I really appreciate the video! Of course there are some that I disagree with and some I agree with but I liked hearing your reasoning behind them! (Also I of course appreciate the shout out to my site @4:47 and the use of a term that as far as I know I was the first to use (“Latin American epic anthem”), so that’s always pleasurable to see your creation being used.
One thing I would suggest is to compare apples to apples - ie have all instrumental so that vocals aren’t affecting judgement (of course it can’t be the other way as a few don’t have lyrics).

All of the anthems, (found on the Wikipedia national anthems page), were instrumental, save for maybe four or five; Barbados's was instrumental. I didn't take anthem lyrics into account because
a) I only speak English, and Google translations wouldn't do non-English anthems justice

In the defense of Bhutan's national anthem, an instrumental version of the song like what is played on Wikipedia doesn't do it justice because Bhutan's National Anthem is very much a song that is made by the vocals.
Salvadoran here. I know we have a kick-ass anthem, but didn't expected somebody to put it that high on a list. :)
I'm from Costa Rica, and the thing I like when the anthem plays is the lyirics
perhaps lyrics could've saved it. But sadly this ranking didn't take lyrics into account, in order to avoid English bias.
as an Azerbaijani I'm honored that people like our anthem. Uzeyir Hajibeyov is one of the greatest composers of his time. Of course, we should not forget Ahmad Javad who has a great role in our anthem.
6:55 Cyprus and Greece have the same anthem because they're both Greek nations, two states, one people. The Hymn to Liberty is a pieace of Classical Music, composed in 1823, during the Greek revolution, in the British owned Ionian Islands. It is the longest national anthem in the word, at 158 verses, all of them rhyming. It's a great anthem!
7:30 Slovak Symphony Orchestra's version of the Ethiopian anthem is so much better than Navy Band's (which is what that website you used, uses for their list of national anthems). It's amazing
so Jordan's anthem is shit because it's short and repetitive but San Marino's is great because it's short and repetitive?
You make a good point; I can't really use length alone as a reason for one to be good and the other to be bad. I guess... it's more like a catalyst. The anthem being thirty seconds long amplifies my feelings about it, because the anthem's statement is much smaller and therefore more... definitive, I guess? If an anthem made a boring initial statement but tried to amend it with a decent bridge or an amplified version later in the song, I would feel better about it. But Jordan makes the one statement, (one that I personally dislike), and just repeats it as if it's enough to sustain an entire anthem. It all boils down to personal opinion, really. I like the San Marino motif, and I dislike the Jordan motif; I think San Marino's is so good that it's enough to be an entire song, while I think that Jordan's is so bad that to assume it could make an entire song is an insult to the listener. Thank you for your insightful comment, this really got me thinking.

Yeah, I was debating putting it in G. I don't remember the specific thought process, but I think I put it in the general rankings just because the chording stood out from the others a little. That might not have been it, I'm not entirely sure.
The Turkish anthem has got to be the best one for me. Not only does it give off an evil and dramatic vibe, but the melodies just draw me in and impress me every time.

@@uRDM true
To be honest , I don't think our anthem is that remarkable.
( The music isn't that inspiring)
HaTikvah - It's about yearning and having hope. We usually play it on Yam HaShoah (Memorial Day for Victims of the Holocaust) and Yom HaziKaron (Memorial Day for Victims of Terror and Fallen Soldiers) or when there's been a terror attack.
Some will sing it on Yom Ha'atzmaut, which is independence day, which is why it is about having land that they have yearned for and that they have continued to hope for. (Ode lo avdah tikvatenu // Hatikvah bat shnot alpayim -
Our hope is not lost // Our hope of two thousand years)
Either way, very good list as most do just look over the national anthem of the Israelis.
Interesting! I never knew the history and depth of it. And thank you! I had to put it pretty darn high; there are few anthems that are brave enough to sound anything other than proud, and Israel's did that while also managing to sound really good.
I totally agreed with your list. Many people from different places love my country anthem (uruguay)
If I may offer my opinion on this, I do have a critique. From the looks of it, you just listened to the versions of the anthems on wikipedia, which from my impressions, are not as good as some of the other versions that exist. Mainly because the wikipedia versions lack vocals a lot of the time. I guarantee that with some of these anthem's vocals, they would be plazed a whole lot higher, like Argentina, South Africa, Portugal, Tunisia, Andorra, Bulgaria, Greece, Cameroon, or Georgia. If you see this, I would recommend searching on UA-cam for the vocal versions of these anthems, because even from just the examples I've listed, I agree that the wikipedia versions are in many cases nowhere near as good as the vocal versions.
I think Turkey,Azerbaijan and Mongolia anthems are really goood
Your opinion is 66% valid

oh gosh oh frick oh hdajsdnjkgnajkgnaksjdasd
Just finished listening to all the national anthems myself, glad to see that most of the ones I like are on the top of this tier list 😄
also, bro rated the SADR's anthem (at least I think that's the SADR flag at the bottom of C tier at 40:40) but not Palestine's 💀
I've been looking for this video.
This video has been looking for you.
Proud of the Moroccan Anthem, Dima Maghreb!!!
nice 😎
Well, the best anthem is from your motherland. Each national anthem carries its own national memory, for us, just listen.
Hippie response
@Riley McCabe it's a hippie response because it doesn't take a side
I at first felt bad that Brazil didn't make into the top 3 (especially with the vocals and lyrics taken into consideration) but then I heard Azerbaijan and I was like, ok I get it.
Watch Jacob Collier playing the German national anthem and you will absolutely change your mind. It is beautiful, one of the best ones in my opinion.
now drive through Glendale with the Chadbayjani Anthem.
But I don't want to die
bruh i really liked the anthem for jordan its short and sweet
you are allowed to have this opinion, but know that it will forever be in violation of the Truth. you will pay dearly
@@uRDM lol
Interesting thing about the spanish anthem is that if you go to a football game or something you will sometimes hear the crowd sing, even though the spanish anthem has no lyrics. That is due to it having lyrics under Spains facist dictator Francisco Franco. After Franco died and the new democratic state of Spain was formed the lyrics were removed but the anthem remained the same, so older Spaniards often sing the old lyrics, which is the murmor one can hear in the backround at sports games and so on.
Interesting! I did not know this.
@@uRDM Antoher interesting fact is that the chinese anthem is just from a movie soundtrack, as there werent really any republican patriotic songs, seeing as china had been a monarchy forever pretty much.
Didn't believe you so I looked it up and you're totally right; that's so weird! I really gotta look further into these than just the notes, there's so much cool history
@@uRDM There is lots of history to the songs, the EU's anthem is ode to joy, which has caused some tension with Zimbabwe as when Zimbabwe was Rhodesia their national anthem also just used Ode to joy, making the memories of that era be connected to the song. I find these little things neat.
may i ask how does america sound close to any of those anthems? its s tier like russia 2 of the most greatest countries im not hating im just asking
similar in style, orchestration, chord progression, general vibe, that kind of thing
I watched all the video nobody said such beautiful words for our anthem before ❤ i like Americas anthem 🐺🤟🇦🇿🇹🇷🇵🇰
🇹🇷❤️🇦🇿❤️🇵🇰🤘🤘
yay! :D
So sad to see Argentina’s anthem in D tier. Lots of sources claim it to be one of the best. Maybe you listened a version with the new vocals, which are awful. Anyway, cool video
Netherlands isn’t called William. Idk why its translated but its called Wilhelmus. Its based on the name of the leader who lead the revolution against spain. I can get why it might seem weird to people who don’t know our history. But for dutch people it makes sense
oh, interesting. I suppose it could make sense in that kind of context. Netherlands is now off of the weird list lol
I find funny how you mentioned a dude skipping across battlefields in both 6 and 4 position, and the lyrics of the Italian national anthem at number 5 that are actually written by a dude in a trench that has not been mentioned.
this needs more than 400 views bruh
edit: probably because of _k i r i b a t i_
Thank you! Sadly, the tiny niche of national anthems doesn't draw too many viewers; I knew this going in and mostly made it for fun (and because I was mad at Drew Durnil for doing one that was basically just Europe and his opinions sucked).
Oh yeah the pure horror that is the kiribas national anthem drove a majority of potential viewers before they even clicked the video, they could sense how bad it was and didnt want to chance it
@@uRDM
i suppose that's true about the tiny niche
lol when i said kiribati i was mentioning your pronunciation, the ti in kiribati is pronounced /s/
Ohh, yeah I'm am big stupid mb
So Scotland’s national anthem doesn’t count anymore, we sing it when we play other teams including the rest of the UK, we NEVER sing god save the Queen if we don’t have to. I assure you Scotlands should be on there
Already had and finished this argument with someone else, actually. Look for "Louis K"; we went about six messages deep, several paragraphs apiece. (But the end result was that Scotland still will not be on this list's updated 2022 version.)
Have you listened to the anthems of some of the partially recognized countries like South Ossetia, Artsakh, or Somaliland?
Nah, I only considered countries fully recognized by the United Nations. I think I listened to a few of the extraneous anthems while I was browsing the website, but I don't remember anything about them. Except North Yemen. Deary me, North Yemen.
Artsakh is not recognized
There is not artsakh. And artsakh didn't recognized. Karabakh🇦🇿
Not a country but part of. I recommend you listen to the anthem of tirol : "Dem Land Tirol die Treue" I really love it. I like our german anthem but I'm really jealous of our austrian neighbours who have this one for Tirol.
Gave it a listen, and I agree; it's really good! When it started, I was thinking B-tier, bottom of A-tier maybe, but as it went on it shifted higher and higher. After listening to the whole thing, if it were a national anthem, I'd put it around #14 or #15.
in my opinion row row row your boat inspires more pride than the British anthem
not sure the British had any pride to begin with lol
/s
@@uRDM can confirm we don't
Ayyyyyyy
It's because it's England's anthem. They are the only ones who sing it. The rest of us have our own which are actually good

At least Azerbajcan has its brother-country Turkey, dude.
First of all, we are 1 people, 2 countries!
With Turkey, Azerbajcan is OP.
Its economy, its military is not "middle-of-the-road", cuze it has Turkey.
And its population is not only 9 mil. Its 9mil + 84 mil. We Turks and Azerbaijanis speak the same language. U know what i mean? Keep that in ur mind!
🇹🇷🇦🇿
And better, watch out what ure saying!
Never say again that a country sucks, and never say they are "middle-of-the-road-culture"!
The Turkish and Azerbaijani culture are the same and they are uniqe. Cuze we are not europeans or arabs, we are Turks!
Ur "middle-of-the-road-culture" country could learn alot from us, cuze America doesnt rly has any culture. And believe me ur ancestors, the europeans learned alot from Turks, history proofs that.
The Turks were the first ever to make military marches.
The Europeans feared us when they heard our armies come with military marches.
And so Europeans, ur ancestors got inspired to make their own marches.
And before u delete this comment. Read it carefully.
Read it and remember this comment for ever!
Basta ! 🇦🇿🇹🇷
a) I'm only considering legal, real political boundaries here. If I were combining nations that were the same peoples, America and Canada would be together, North and South Korea would be together, Ukraine and Russia would be together, it would go on forever. If Azerbaijan's population is 9 + 84 million, America's is 328 + 38 + 67 + 25 + 5 million (USA + Canada + UK + Australia + New Zealand). It's a silly way to delineate countries because it's so amorphous.
b) Azerbaijan is literally my favorite country, dude. Out of all 196, it's Azerbaijan. I spent five entire minutes talking about how awesome it is in the video; I am probably, out of all 300 million Americans, the one you least need to be ranting to about how great it is.
c) everyone has culture. saying america doesn't have culture is just being rude. any kind of past or tradition counts as culture, even if it's something silly like s'mores or baseball. I will admit that I shouldn't have called your culture "middle of the road"; that was a bit disparaging. I just meant not particularly noteworthy to someone who's never heard of them before.
This is such an embarrassing comment because the dude in this video literally praises Azerbaijan for several minutes yet you still write paragraphs criticizing him and insulting his country.

U really did La Brabançonne dirty, it's a tri-lingual anthem with (at least i think so) varied and vibrant sounding lyrics.
