- Packed full of pumpkin and topped with a drool-worthy peanut butter frosting, these dog-friendly Pupcakes will have your pooch begging for more. This recipe uses just a few ingredients and comes together in under 45 minutes.
Recipe: sugarspunrun.com/pupcakes/
Ingredients
⅔ cup creamy peanut butter (it is important that the peanut butter you purchase does not contain xylitol, which can be deadly to dogs. Most brands do not use this ingredient, but always check your label first) (160g)
1 cup pumpkin puree (227g)
⅓ cup olive oil
¼ cup honey
2 large eggs
⅔ cup water
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (190g)
2 teaspoons baking powder
Frosting (optional, see note if you wish to decorate like the photos)
4 oz cream cheese, softened (113g)
½ cup peanut butter (120g)
1-2 teaspoons water, as needed
Instructions
00:00 Introduction
00:30 Preheat oven to 350F (175C) and line a 12-count muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease with baking spray. Set aside.
00:35 In a large bowl, combine peanut butter, pumpkin puree, olive oil, honey, and eggs. Whisk together until smooth and completely combined.
01:33 Add water and stir until completely incorporated.
01:55 In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
02:04 Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and use a spoon or spatula to stir together until just-combined (try not to over-mix as it can make the pupcakes dense and dry, but if your dog is anything like mine they won’t mind).
02:31 Evenly divide batter into prepared muffin tin (fill liners all the way full). Smooth muffin tops if you would like your pupcakes to be smooth on top after baking.
03:01 Transfer to 350F (175C) oven and bake for 18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow pupcakes to cool in the muffin tin for 15 minutes before carefully removing to cooling rack and allowing to cool completely. While they cool, prepare your frosting.
Frosting
03:27 Stir together cream cheese and peanut butter until smooth.
03:46 Add water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until you reach a consistency that is easy to spread or pipe over the cupcakes.
04:07 Spread or pipe frosting over cooled cupcakes and serve to your pup!
Notes:
Frosting
While the pupcakes in the photos looked beautiful with all of that icing, I ultimately decided my dogs didn’t need quite that much fattening frosting and so I’ve reduced the amount that this recipe makes (they didn’t seem to mind!). This recipe makes enough to frost the cupcakes much less generously than shown. If you want to decorate the pupcakes as shown, you will need to double the frosting.
Storing
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to one week. Pupcakes may also be frozen for several months.

How cute
Great treats for our furry babies 😋
This is right in time!! My pup's birthday is next week!! Thanks Sam! ❤️
You're welcome! Happy birthday to your pup! :)
I tired eating them before my dog ate them to make sure they were cooked well (because I made it in the microwave) They were more moist then normal cupcakes because I added tons of water cause my dog hates dry food. He was SOOOO happy!
My dogs love pumpkin, so they will definitely love this recipe. I can’t wait to try this for my doggies. 👍🏼👍🏼 I make dog treats every week for my dogs.
I think they are going to love these! 😃
Great recipe my dog loves them. Thank you
You’re welcome! Say hi to your pup for me!
Thanks so much this really helped and my dog loved them!
So glad they were a hit!
Awesome video Sam! Thanks!! It's great to switch up the pumpkin with bananas from time to time! Mine love them both! Your rock 🥌🪨😎👍📸📷🙏😃😘💕❤❤❤

My pleasure. What's your puppy's name? 😘🐶🐾
The ingredient she mentioned that is sometimes in peanut butter is spelled as Xylitol. Also, try to avoid anything with xathan gum as in certain amounts can cause your pup to feel ill. Basically, reiterating everything she said in the beginning of the video, you should always consult with your vet if you are unsure about any ingredients or foods that you may want to give your furry companion~
Awesome!!! Who knows what Sam will come up with next 😉
Here's a question everyone will be thinking, "Can I eat these as well?"
Sure! You could eat them, but I'm not sure they'll taste great.
Of course you can but it won’t taste sweet or nothing … I make sure w.e treat I make my dog I can eat as well because that’s my baby, not saying I eat her treats lol ya get it
Cute puppy
Thank you! 😃
Cute dog
Thank you! 😊
❤🎉dogs loved pup cakes 🎂
Yay! 🎉
Almost at 100k! 🤩
We are getting there! 😃
Your puppy is so adorable 😍
I'm going to give these a try for my dogs and thank you for the heads up on the xylitol. I always try to be mindful not to give my dogs anything containing that ingredient.
Thank you! I hope your pups love them too! 😊
My dogs loved these! I didn't make the frosting and it was probably a good thing because they ate them so fast it would have been messy. My local pet supply store has dog ice creams that I served with these 😂
🤣 I'm so glad they enjoyed them so much! ☺️
This is really helpful🎉 since my New dog is coming I want to make him a cake to welcome him to his new family and House❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤🎉❤
Congratulations on your new friend!!! I hope he loves them. :)
Finished the recipe as written but decided to leave off the whipped topping. Instead I brushed bacon grease over the top. I used less than a tablespoon to cover all 12 cupcakes. I'm a bad dog mommy. lol (I also make home cooked food for them so I know what they are eating on a daily and a treat is, just that, a treat) I broke up one for the 3 of them and froze the rest. They loved them. Thanks for the recipe.
I'm so glad they were well loved! I'm sure they weren't complaining about the bacon grease. 🤣
This is so fun! Sadly, my dog is allergic to a lot of things so she doesn't get anything except for her kibbles. Thanks for sharing!
P.s. your pupper is so cute 💙
Awwwww poor puppy! Give her some extra pets from me. 😊😊
How to make colored icing
By any chance would you mind telling me what brand peanut butter you used. P.S. love the videos
I really use whatever I have on hand whether that be generic, jif, or skippy. I just don't use a natural peanut butter. :)
Since wheat is not great for dogs, could we sub oat flour or rice flour?
I haven't tried it so I can't say for sure how they will turn out.
My dog does not like peanut butter can I leave it out or what can I use to replace it?
I haven't tried it to be sure, but if you do I'd love to know how it goes!
I dont have a dog 😭 but I want a dog.
:( our dog is allergic to eggs what can I substitute for the egg?
I haven't tried it with an egg substitute so I'm not sure what will work well here. 😔
1/4 cup applesauce or 1/4 cup banana 😇
@@delmarierivera7830 thank you so much 😊
Can you use grams please ???
I do have all of the gram measurements in the description. 😊
Does it have to be olive oil ?
As long as it's safe for dogs you can use any oil really.
Not sure about the olive oil for dogs
Always check with your vet first but I do discuss this on my blog post. :)
Hi, Can I use oatmeal flour ?
I don't think it will be a problem. It would probably make the pupcakes a little dense, but I'm sure the pup won't even notice. :)
@@SugarSpunRun I can’t wait to try! Thank you.
Is there a email you can be contacted at?
I have another question about an other recipe you did.
I made this but my dog did not like the cupcakes. I think it needs more flavor.
Oh no! I've never met a dog who turned down peanut butter 😲
Always such a bummer when all the dog treat recipes have peanut butter the one ingredient that could kill me
:(
You could use bananas or just pumpkin.
It’s not recommended you use all purpose flour for dogs
It won’t hurt them in moderation, it just doesn’t have nutritional value. This is supposed to be a treat though. 😊
What what in the butt
M so sorry... but this was not what I had subscribed for...
Not every video is for everyone and that’s ok. I hope you are enjoying everything else. 😊
it’s only one video you’ll cope
Wow, what a Debbie downer. I personally think this video is great.
