Folk Dance KUMMI KOLLATTAM -

Kummi is a folk dance, popular in Tamil Nadu, danced mostly by Tamil women in circle. The rhythmic clapping or beating of the drums. Kummi is one of the most important and ancient forms of village dances of Tamil Nadu. It originated when there were no musical instruments, with the participants clapping their hands to keep time. Kummi dance is performed during festival seasons such as Pongal, the harvest festival. It is also performed during family functions such as marriages, childbirths.
