You just do not go hiking in the mountains without duck/duct tape. Ideal for fixing loose soles on your hiking boots. Don't forget the cable ties as well.
HVAC does not typically use or like Duck Tape because it does not last and it hates sunlight. HVAC uses an aluminum foil or Hardcast to join ducts. They sometimes use a black high grade cloth tape for noncritical joints. Your common Duck Tape does not work well in a hot attic, outside or longer than a few years.
@TexasEngineer "HVAC does not typically use or like Duck Tape because it " Wow. You are in HVAC. You work with ducts all the time. And you STILL don't know that it's DUCTTTTT tape.
@@Migglesworth If you watch the video, you would have learned the original name was DUCK TAPE. Why? It was water proof, like a…DUCK. It was not invented for AC ducts. The darn stuff does not like attic heat or UV. I use a black cloth version or a metal tape or a real sticky stuff with metal backing made by Hardcast.
When I was about 6 years old, my dad humorously told me that duck tape was used in zoos to tape duck's bills shut, so they wouldn't eat too much and get fat. At the time, I believed him
Duck tape, AKA pusser's tape, in the UK "Pusser" is Royal Navy slang for a purser, a ship's supply officer, now called a Logistics Officer. Or Gaffa tape, why? The precise origin of the name is unknown, one hypothesis is that it is named for the gaffer (chief lighting technician) on a film crew. When cables are taped down on a stage or other surface, either to prevent tripping hazards or conceal them from view of the audience or camera, they are said to be gaffed or gaffered. Gaffer tape was invented in 1959 by Ross Lowell, director, cinematographer, and founder of Lowel-Light. Lowell reworked Johnson & Johnson's Permacel duct tape product by combining the Permacel adhesive with a silver fabric backing to create gaffer tape which could hold a flat metal plate to a window. if you can fix it with Gaffa tape, it can't be fixed
J&J recognized Mrs Stoudt as the inventor but she was never compensated. She had a brilliant idea, it changed her working life but didn't enrich her pockets.
I always understood it was also called Duck Tape because the cloth used was called cotton duck, a well known water resistant strong canvas much used for soft luggage. I still refer to the tape as Duck Tape regardless of other explanations or variations - ! 😅
I learned something in this video that I did not know. I always thought when people called it Duck tape, that they were pronouncing it wrong.but found out that there is a reason why! "THE MORE YOU KNOW" 🌈
In 2010 (2009?), my band was one of the acts entertaining at the International Duck Tape Festival in Avon, Ohio. One of the highlights of my wacky professional music career. lol Duck Tape people are a great audience.
Actually, there are two items that looks similar, but they are not. One is duct tape, and it is used to join and seal air ducting. It meets various requirements such as flammability and adhesive temperature limits. Then there is adhesive cloth tape. It looks the same and costs about 1/3 less than duct tape.
@mbrownie22 funny when Iwas a child 70 years ago, friends of my grandfather told us grandchildren about them being given gum and ducktape when they boarded the airboats during WWI incase the planes were shot up!
"It is duck tape! It was developed during WWI to patch the air boats. Tape made from canvas Duck. Long before ducts were invented!" That's called being stubbornly stupid.
Correct, the tape is named after the cloth used to make it, called “duck” or “doek”. The latter is the Dutch word for fabric or tarp, pronounced “dook”, which is where the name comes from.
Yes.. I aways understood that “duck” was a type of light weight canvas material.. the sort of stuff used for say a painters drop cloth or a machinery / car cover
I wonder if Mrs Stoudt was ever compensated for her idea. J&J probably got the patent rights.
Probably not, the man who invented post it notes got screwed by 3m
They probably sent her a free box of J&J Band-Aids.

Don't forget the flammability requirements of HVAC duct tape. I also prefer the foil tape over that of the cloth type duct tapes.
@@Migglesworth "Duck Tape" = trademarked name.
When I was in the Navy, we called it Ordnance Tape, and was camo green. It was used to secure the arming wires on bombs, loaded on carrier aircraft.
In the Royal Netherlands Navy it's called "McGyver tape".
Duck tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side and binds the universe together.
👎🐒👎🐒Are you an insomniac? Do you stay up at night "thinking" up comments like this?
In the military, it is sometimes called "500 mile" or "1000 mile" tape for its ability to withstand very high winds.
When I was about 6 years old, my dad humorously told me that duck tape was used in zoos to tape duck's bills shut, so they wouldn't eat too much and get fat. At the time, I believed him
She should have named it Stoudt Tape because she earned the notoriety.
Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs. I've always said "duck tape" was wrong. I've learnt something so I'm happy.
Nice to see someone who is willing to learn. 👍👍

Gaffer tape is 10X Better. It is what Adam Savage uses and he hates duct tape

Duct tape... if it's all you have. You'll survive and get by.
Red Green has entered the chat.
It doesn't work on ductwork. Dries out and comes loose.
Duct tape is like an old woman...
Serial Killer Credo: "Duct tape is silver, but silence is golden."
Just found this guy not long ago n so far so great

Can you do a episode on 550 Paracord?
We'll note this on our list. Thank you :)
Hi! We made an episode about this :) You can check the video premiere here. Thank you! ua-cam.com/video/i8dTGcIGBTg/v-deo.html
Could it be used for leaking fuel pipes or fuel tanks?
nope
Sure!
Sure, if you want to die. It doesn't seal ANY pipes or tanks very well, and any fuel will dissolve the adhesive very quickly.
no. the adhesive would dissolve in fuel
It is duck tape! It was developed during WWI to patch the air boats. Tape made from canvas Duck. Long before ducts were invented!
WWll
@mbrownie22 funny when Iwas a child 70 years ago, friends of my grandfather told us grandchildren about them being given gum and ducktape when they boarded the airboats during WWI incase the planes were shot up!
Romans used ducts
"It is duck tape! It was developed during WWI to patch the air boats. Tape made from canvas Duck. Long before ducts were invented!"
That's called being stubbornly stupid.
was duct tape ever patented?
Rome wasn’t built in a day, but that’s because they didn’t have duct tape yet…
But they had ducts
Who invented the snap ring, how its made...
Another suggestion..
We'll cover this in our next video. Thank you!
"duct tape"
It's Duck Tape.
Duck is a thick cotton cloth.
Correct, the tape is named after the cloth used to make it, called “duck” or “doek”. The latter is the Dutch word for fabric or tarp, pronounced “dook”, which is where the name comes from.

Well, so much for AI.
That's called being *_stubbornly_* stupid.
Duct tape is the WORST thing for ducts. Aluminum foil tape is what is used.
Duck tape is a brand name. Duck brand duct tape. Dumbest business idea ever, picking such a name.
Gorilla tape is much better. Much more adhesive and lasts longer.
IT IS DUCT TAPE USED FOR TAPING THE SEEMS IN DUCTWORK
yeah, but it isn't used in HVAC
👎👎👎 I don't like having to do the editing for you. This should have been 3 min. long.
How is (TUMS) made. Who invented TUMS?
Thank you! We will cover this in our next video and acknowledge you for your suggestion! :)

Gaffer tape - Used on film sets - By the Gaffer - The dude fixing cords and wires so nobody trips in Them🤷🏼♂️
