I've only watched the five westerns Stewart and Mann did together, and I would rank them: 1. Winchester '73 2. The Man from Laramie 3. The Naked Spur 4. The Far Country 5. Bend of the River. John McIntire and Robert Wilke were great villains in The Far Country, I found Bend of the River very episodic (although I liked the last 10 minutes), and, having seen The Creature from the Black Lagoon long before I saw Bend of the River, every time an action scene broke out, the music reminded me of the Gill-Man.
Great ranking! I've never even heard of this director, so this ranking was kind of educational for me as even though I love Jimmy Stewart, I haven't seen or (mostly) heard of any of these movies lol.
Perfect! That’s exactly what I want the video to do - speak to those who know the two, and speak to those who have never heard of the two together. Glad you enjoyed it!
Mason from Letterboxd here! Love the Mann/Stewart westerns but I haven’t seen his other three. My favorite is definitely The Naked Spur… I had no idea it was ole Jim’s birthday! I might watch one of his films right now as a matter of fact
@@maplestreetmovies have you seen Broken Arrow? It’s a Stewart western from the same period as the Mann ones. I really enjoyed it, despite the very offputting relationship between Jim and a 16 year old Indian girl
,Winchester 73' is one of the best Western movies ever I must admit that I never saw the Nr.8 and 7 of your list 🙄 Strange, but for me ,the nacked spur' would be the last on my list of the 6 Stewart/Mann films I know till now 🤷♂️ So again we have a different opinion 😄
Only watched Glenn Miller Story but I wanna watch more, I always get a bit weary before watching westerns as I think I’ll not enjoy them so I haven’t watched many, however most of the time I do enjoy them (I loved Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, so I will watch more) I can’t wait to see your James Stewart complete filmography ranking soon 😂
I used to be hesitant on westerns too! It was my 25 Movies Challenge focused on westerns that changed it up, I realized how many different westerns are out there! Haha yes!! Hope to release it on his birthday in 2025!
Love the Stewart/Mann westerns. He was supposed to do another with Mann, Man Of The West after these, but Stewart pissed Mann off by choosing to do a Hitchcock he had already commuted to, so Mann cast Gary Cooper in the role instead & ended his relationship with Stewart.
Good list man, I think I like The Naked Spur the most of their collaborations as well. It not only has one of Stewart’s best performances but fantastic performances from Robert Ryan and Ralph Meeker. If you’re looking for another Anthony Mann western Man of the West is a good watch.
@@maplestreetmovies Yes, Gary Cooper is in that one. It's one of his last films and I think he's great in it. Man of the West is similar to the Man from Laramie in that both of them were bleak for their time (as far 50s westerns go). It's still a good collaboration of Cooper and Mann. The Westerner and Vera Cruz are a couple of other Gary Cooper flicks I recommend.

Thanks bro! Great Job. I just watched Winchester '73. I think it's Anothony Mann's #1 film of all time.

My favorite parts of "Winchester 73" are seeing very young actors Bernie Schwartz and Roy Harold Scherer, Jr.

Woohoo! I’m planning on rewatching The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance!

@@masongraves4228 I haven’t, but I own it 😂 I need to check it out!
I recently watched The Glenn Miller Story, and I must say, it made me like Glenn Miller a lot more.
It's great to see content from you again. Are you, Nick and Jackson going to do your 24 hour movie marathon?
I plan to sometime this summer, Nick and Jackson won’t be able to this year! Sorry you’re just stuck with me 🤣
Awesome video!! I'm a huge fan of their collaboration!! classic, influential movies!!
cult classic westerns (?)
good job!!!
Thank you! What’s your favorite between the 2?
@@maplestreetmovies hard to vote, but probably "bend of the river"? "the naked spur" is 2nd or 1st. depending on my mood maybe?

That’s too bad :( but also a blessing in disguise if it meant more collaborations with Hitchcock lol

Okay, but Shelley Winters is great in Night of the Hunter. She is less good in Winchester 73.
I like Night of the Hunter, I just don’t like her 😂
Shelly Winters rules you goober!
After you see this movie, you still don't know the facts of Glenn Miller's life. It's pretty much pure fiction.
You dont sound like a jimmy stewart fan to me!!!!
