the hate that was poured on ozil after this loss was such that i have never seen before. Tony Kroos even refused to defend him. one man was blamed for the failings of other 22 players, german football federation and coaching staff.
agreed. In fact, stats showed (Can't recall correctly) that he had a 95% creation opportunities in that World Cup. Then we even had Gomez being recorded as Germany's oldest, fastest player lol. Ozil really got unnecessary hate.
Not to mention how they ignore the role Kroos plays by assisting the Korean player to score with his backpass toe poke. Kroos also assisted the goal Sweden scored in the 1st game with another one of his backpasses, but people forgot about it because of his last minute free kick goal that won Germany the game. People also forget that Kroos was also the one assisting Higuain in the 2014 World Cup final with a backpass (the 1 on 1 Higuain then missed)...
It was disgusting. I don't blame him for cutting all ties with the German National Team. It's like old habits creeping back out again making a scapegoat out of a minority member...justifying it with his supposed "support" for Turkish president Erdogan due to his photos with him...the Grey Wolves tattoo doesn't help
Correction for the commentator: during the first korean goal, it was actually a german defender who played the pass to he korean player. You can see his foot poking the ball back. Therefore, it doesn't count as a "pass," so no offside
Why the commentator was so fixated on the touch off the defender’s leg, when there was no touch from a South Korean player after the corner was taken, is beyond me!
@@danpreston564 When you see it live, it looks like the South Korean player made the pass; only on the replay do you see it was actually a German backpass. As I followed the world cup 2018, this was the best match ever. South Korea did not win the world cup but they defeated the world champion here at this time...I really enjoyed this match, best one!

I'm from Indonesia where shin tae yong so ridiculously loved by a lot of us indonesian football enthusiast. This raise a question tho, why did coach shin agreed to coach our national team? For me that is a blessing and i almost 100% sure the rest of us also feel blessed.
im a Colombian living in Indonesia and I began watching Indonesian games because of that. I think the reason is because he was disliked in his own country and Indonessia offered a decent salary. It goes to show that a coach matters a lot more, in many countries, including mine, they hire an old football star to be the coach but they don't really know what coaching really is.
4:44 the assist of a lifetime. Non football fans will probably underestimate the skill it takes to pull off such a powerful strike at such an awkward angle with his left foot.
As a Korean, that match was incredible and after scoring two goals Korea's night was madness! I was middle schoolers at that time so it gives thrills!! It wasnt a fluke. The Korean team was incredibly determined on their defense throughout. The goalie was amazing. They deserved to win. I remember screaming when Son was bearing down and putting the ball in to an empty net. After losing against Mexico, Germany’s comeback win against Sweden seemed to indicate that the Mexico result was an anomaly. This match squashed all of that and Germany has been on a downward spiral ever since.
I still don’t understand how. This team was more passionate and football oriented than the shambles team that went to qatar. But even though both teams failed miserably, it still feels like the 2018 team was up for a fight. This match is what effectively ended a decade of German football domination. But considering they play at home, they could win the euros make the semis
Deserved for all the racially motivated harassment they put özil through for an entire team’s failings. And even six years later they did not learn from their mistakes and fail to defend their minority players. As a German myself I pray they keep on falling until they hit rock bottom.
The day I, as a German, bet on a 2-0 win for South Korea and won 41,000 bucks when a player who once played for my favorite team scored the second goal…
The AFC is Germany's new boogeyman! You can bet the DFB will be PRAYING that there won't be an AFC team in their group for 2026 so they have an easier time making it out of their group...
@@iamramfanpaizo This has to be a joke lol. Have you watched the world cup in the last 20 years? It was Italy, Spain, Germany and then France who dominated. Argentina is the only team that was able to compete with European teams during that time. Brazil has been meadiocre for years. Second tier European teams like Croatia or the Netherlands have had bigger successes then the likes of Uruguay, Chile or Columbia. It's not even close.
2018 World Cup: Finished last in the group stage. 2018-19 Nations League: Lost 0-3 to the Netherlands. Euro 2020: Lost 0-2 to England in Round of 16 (they had even barely escaped the Group of Death after Hungary almost knocked Germany out of the tournament). 2020-21 Nations League: Lost 0-6 to Spain. 2022-23 Nations League: Lost 0-1 to Hungary and only finished 3rd behind them and Italy. 2022 World Cup: Finished 3rd behind Japan and Spain in the group stage (they would have finished last if Costa Rica were 2-1 up until the full-time whistle, which also qualified as a runners up the expense of Spain, despite losing 0-7). Also, in 2023: Euro U-21: Finished dead last in group stage behind eventual winners England (despite the fact Germany were the defending champions of this tournament). Women's World Cup: Finished 3rd behind Colombia and Morocco after yet another shock results against none other than... South Korea! Morocco had just got slapped 0-6 at the hands of Germany. The men's senior team only won 3 of the 11 friendly games, losing 6 (including a 1-4 loss to Japan). At least, the Euro and World Cup triumphs for the U-17 only saved the German Football for the crisis.
Germany had just been champion of the last edition of the 2017 Confederations Cup, a year before the World Cup, we all thought they were going to go further and they were surprisingly left out, two defeats against Mexico and South Korea and a victory against the Swedes. That's football. 😮😳🤯
I am from the Netherlands and thus contractually obliged to hate the German team, but man do I love Muller talking to the ref after the decision. He is not complaining or angry but asking how much time is left and communicating that to the rest of his team.
it's lack of football knowledge which he had... even if Süle touched the ball, it would still be offside, because that touch would not count as a new defending situation... he really doesn't know much about offside rules at all ^^
ngl, he seemed pretty biased to me. Like for Germany's opportunities, he would hype them and be positive and for korea it was like - ofc that's an offside or at least they tried it's not like they'll qualify. Like I could feel the condescension from him and while Germany certainly was a tournament favorite, as a commentator he should stay neutral
It’s a classic example of Eurocentric commentating combined with a lazy attitude and lack of research on the other team. Thankfully, the norms are changing abd the standard of commentary is steadily increasing.
Its quite odd how Germany despite still having superstar players could not even place second in the group stage, the coach is brilliant too, but I guess the determination of the Koreans beat all of that
@@Blueflag04 Important players? Like who? They were playing with their best XI in this match compared to the S. Korea's team, S. Korea were simply better, take the L and move on, it's been 4+ years already
Back then, Heung-Min Son, Sonny was young but he became an unstoppable one even though turned over 30 recently in the EPL. In the upcoming Asian Cup, he might be the captain of the winning team, the South Korean national football team. Because his team has Son himself, Min-Jae, Hee-Chan, and Kang-In since they are all excellent players in the Euro football world. Their head coaches in club teams didn't want to allow their dispatch to maintain their team capacity but the head coach Jurgen Klinsmann in the South Korean team refused it. As a German, before the WC started you know something was totally off. I even didnt watch this Game, because the 2 previous were way worse than what you could have expected. In the end it wasn't suprising how the game ended.
there’s a term for it called champions fatigue. It’s nearly impossible to win back to back champions due to the constant changes of the personnel or the game itself revolving and the coach not adapting to it so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I feel like Germany got everything out of their system now and will have a chip on their shoulder to prove everyone wrong. 2026 WC will be their comeback szn and as a fellow Korean, i will be rooting for Germany. 🇩🇪

the hate that was poured on ozil after this loss was such that i have never seen before.

Correction for the commentator: during the first korean goal, it was actually a german defender who played the pass to he korean player. You can see his foot poking the ball back. Therefore, it doesn't count as a "pass," so no offside

The commentator clearly did not see what happened. The goal was given because it was flicked to Kim by Kroos, and it didn't touch Süle at all.
it's lack of football knowledge which he had... even if Süle touched the ball, it would still be offside, because that touch would not count as a new defending situation... he really doesn't know much about offside rules at all ^^

I was in europe for the first time and in a beergarden in Munich for this match. When that first goal went in there was complete silence until well past the end of the game, it was crazy.
This is what the World Cup is all about, they may not of went through but the memory of this game will live on forever for Korea amazing!
My favourite match of that Tournament ❤😂
😂😂
Ini karya Shin Tae-yong. Semoga terus sukses STY dan menular ke tim Indonesia. Siapa yang kesini gara gara Asian Cup 2024 ? 😂

South Korea Vs Defending Champions Germany is very impressive.
5:13 That guy who fold the German flag accept the defeat.

The first ever group stage knockout for a great nation. But at last germany is still the best 💥🐐
