  • 3 months ago I shared a video on how to germinate Royal Poinciana seeds. In this video I give an update on the seedlings, and show you my next steps in developing them to become bonsai.
    Here's a link to the first video where I show you how to germinate the seeds: • Growing Flame Trees fr...

    How are they doing now? This is my favorite tree but I live in France. Do you think it could thrive inside the house if there is enough sunshine? I have really large windows. Thank you very much for your videos!

      Hi Roberta :) They're an incredible tree! You might have some luck - I know I got some to grow from cuttings inside my kitchen window, so as long as they still get plenty of light and warmth they should be ok. And mine are doing great thanks, a lot of growth just before winter, and now they're about to enter spring :)

    After how many days you will plant it to land ?
    And how many years does it take to show flowers ?

      I'm growing these for bonsai, but I could probably plant them in soil pretty soon if I were to keep them protected from animals etc and water occasionally. I've heard they can take up to 10 years to flower if grown from seed

    I have huge Poinciana and there are always little seedlings on the ground.
    Could I start from these rather than the seed?

      Hahah lucky you! For sure 😊

    Why did you trim the roots? I received a bonsai growing kit containing 4 different types of trees, 3 of which have recently sprouted. I'm still trying to learn the basics of how to care for them and what to expect.

      Hey Jonni; I trimmed the tap roots as it helps ratify the roots so you get more roots and more compact, which ends up looking way better in bonsai 😊

    It's okay to cut that main root like that? I have just 1 seed starting to sprout and it's in a rather small pot just wanna try to see how the re potting process goes and when to do it.

      Hey, yeah entirely safe with appropriate tlc, all of these have survived 😊

    how long was it before you repotted the seedlings, I have an issue with 6 seedlings in a cloth pot for germinating that are growing pretty big, should I repot them now, it's only been 10 days

      Hey 😊 definitely leave them at least a few months if you can but depends how crowded out they are

    I'm curious if you've been able to establish more than one branch. I've got two of them growing now and in my experience, these guys like to drop branches pretty regularly, and my oldest (2+ years now) completely stopped growing on the upper branches when a lower one sprouted. Otherwise, they do really well, but it's a strange pattern that I've noticed over the last couple years.

      Hi Bryan, I can't say I would know yet sorry, as all of mine are only approaching a year old. I know they branch out in the wild, but yeah so far I only have main trunks as well. I have just pruned them back (coming out of winter) so I am hoping they will get a few branches as they come into leaf, but I will keep you posted :)

      @@EuanElleryhi I got some flame tree seedlings that sprouted,should I put them in direct sunlight or can I use growlights for them ?

    • @EuanEllery
      @EuanEllery  Рік тому

      @@Taino76 sunlight is often better, but try not to put them where they will cop the full brunt of the sun until they get more established :) unless you make sure they won't dry out too much

      @@Taino76 I'm not familiar with it, but so long as it drains freely shouldn't be any issues :)

    Why would the leaves start falling off the next day after transplanting?

    • @EuanEllery
      @EuanEllery  2 роки тому +2

      Hey mate, could be a number of factors really. If you leave too much folliage after a repot it can be a bit too much for the plant to keep the folliage alive, so it will stop sending energy to the leaves
