  • There are endless number of wonderful video and film portraits of this wonderful and amazing place in Berlin. The Hauptbahnhof. It has a real WOW factor going on. The minute you walk into it or get off the train and experience this marvel your breath is taken away. In fact, I think it was my favorite place in Berlin to visit.

    Saw the station on our first trip back in 2008. Great shops and places to eat. Can't wait for travel to come back so we can go back! We miss Berlin very much. Great video. Thanks.

      +Starguard ! I can same the same thing until I actually bought a train ticket and went. Many times I had been in Germany, but never Berlin. I loved Hauptbahnhof. What a wonderful place to see and hang out. Has to be one of my all time favorite train stations. I went right before Xmas. Boy, do the Berliners love Christmas. Wonderful time to be there. I would have like it to have seen it in snow.

    To me it seems the Germans know how to do trains stations very well. I arrived in Berlin at this station and what a station it is! modern, efficient and easy to get around. I would welcome a chance to return there.

      Yes, but don't forget the Brits, they invented the train station. St. Pancras in London is something to behold.

      Michael Jiroch Agreed. I have the berlin - leipzig route on TS2016 and the sound is exactly the same. The germans make the best trains, once upon a time we brits were the

    I am originally from former East-Germany, Fuerstenwalde, just East of Berlin and my family escaped to West-Berlin in 1959. I must admit this main train station in Berlin is the most modern I have seen in the world. I wish we had this kind of commitment to public transportation in Toronto, Canada. We don't have it here, unfortunately. Yes, it means higher taxes and a commitment by governments to upgrade infrastructure and let professionals do the planning of public transportation projects - not politicians as they have done here in Toronto.

      siggi zippan, but Canada and the US are different situations. We are dependent on air travel. It's faster and cheaper than a rail system. Europe, cities are close together and towns are plenty. In North America are cities are up to eight hours apart by train. Less in the East.

I'm glad you took your camera through the food court. I sat at the very bench at 14:54 and had currywurst and fries. Now I want to go back.

      and we Germans love Japan, its people and its culture. Japanese people are reserved and fluid, our role model. Every year, for example, the Japanese cherry blossom fireworks take place in Hamburg out of hospitality to Germany, which we greatly appreciate. I know a Japanese myself and I am proud to have a musical project with her.

I used the video for taking some shot in slow shutter speed mode, with my camera while playing it at TV screen, for a small street photography project. Hope you do not mind if I use the shot, appropriately crediting the video for a post in Facebook in my profile where you can see them. I would have sworn I saw Jason Bourne. Well, maybe not. I haven't been to Germany since I rotated from Bremerhaven in 1966. Left the Bremerhaven train station and traveled through then Soviet territory to Frankfurt. Back then, as in 1963, there were still a few steam engines in service.

    We in America are so behind. I mean outside of NYC. Chicago. Boston. Philly. Dc. I mean what do we have ?. Our infrastructure is so behind Europe.

    • @MichaelJirochVisualArtist
      @MichaelJirochVisualArtist  4 роки тому

      MrSkittlez313 ...but there is a huge difference. Europe is small, and only hours between major cities by train. America is large, train travel is the same price as air travel and takes only a few hours from A to B. Unless we get on board mag-lift-tubes trains we’ll fall really behind.

    • @MrSkittlez313
      @MrSkittlez313 4 роки тому

      Michael Jiroch why don’t we have speed trains. Chicago and Detroit is 4 hours away. Why can’t there be a speed train. Imagine speed trains from Pittsburgh to Philly. Buffalo to Milwaukee and Indianapolis. Detroit. Cleveland. The whole Great Lakes and northeast can be connected. By trains. We don’t even have these kind of train stations. Outside of nyc. Most of America lives on west coast. Northeast and Great Lakes region. We can even connect Canadian cities. Speed train to Montreal. Toronto. Etc.

    • @MichaelJirochVisualArtist
      @MichaelJirochVisualArtist  4 роки тому

      MrSkittlez313 ...because we live in the 21st Century now....a flight from Chicago to Detroit is less than hour away. Far less expensive than high speed rail. It doesn’t make any sense to have high speed rail in a country as big as the USA when we have airline that can get us the far quicker and cheaper. Europe, it makes sense. It’s small.

  • @ted1091

    The biggest post-war architectural disaster of Berlin. They had the opportunity to build anything for Berlin's new main station. They designed this act of environmental vandalism instead. They should have used the old Anhalter Banhof - the beautiful facade still survives. People today want an intimate experience - one of warmth and connectedness, not cold anonymity. There is absolutely nothing intimate about this structure. In fact it is alienating and cold. A place that is vertiginous and gloomy in a climate that is often already gray. Being there is chaotic and exhausting.
