Yep, we can't even EDC any sized LOCKING knife without having a 'good reason' (legitimate excuse) so we have to make do with a sub 3" slippy. Crazy situation.

Good! I hope you're right, but even if you're not, its your choice and I respect that. I don't see the reason why you need to criticize this guy for what he carries. You don't live where he does nor do you live his life. You have no idea what's necessary for him.

I live in Chicago, so I can't even really carry a knife without it being a potential legal-annoyance. I regularly carry my Leatherman Wave with me, but something I don't think many people don't consider for EDC (be it budget or local ordinances) is a good boxcutter. I got a nice simple Husky boxcutter from Home Depot for work a couple years ago, and I love it because it's nice and flat and fits in my back pocket so easy and effortlessly that I can't help but carry it around even on off days. Razors are super cheap too, and sharp! Originally they would get a bit funky and rusty after a week or two, but since I got a ton of ballistol, I decided to spray the razor with it and wipe it down before I put it in, and not only does it cut better, but it doesn't rust or get anywhere near as dirty. I've been using this same blade for well over a month or two now and it still looks fairly new. Granted I'm not gonna be fighting off any attackers with it, however for down and dirty work, or just for cutting something, can't beat a simple razor, and I won't feel bad if I'm using it for a dirty rough job that I'd be hesitant to use a good quality knife or my leatherman wave blade on.

I have been living in the UK now , for more than 20 yrs , and I still wake up some mornings and feel for my handgun. Damn I miss my guns , had 23 in South Africa , carried hip and ankle since the age of 16 , My EDC changed over time , but my ankle gun was always a Walther PPK 7.62 , and the hip gun I really liked among many that I carried , was my trusty Star 30M , was never a big fan of Star , but the 30 m was hefty and strong. I also liked the Browning HI-Power a lot. The law here is a bit strange , but the rule of law still works here , ..mostly, I respect this country , it is generous and its heart is in the right place. We just need a constitution like yours. Respect the USA enormously , and I would go to war with you guys anytime !! Had the privilege of the company of some great Americans during the Rhodesian bush war. Like your vids and your attitude.Keep well bud.

My EDC is a Springfield XD 45 Mod 2 Sub compact, Galco King Tut IWB holster, 13 rd spare magazine, Kershaw knife, Surefire Light, keys, Two cellphones (one work, one personal), tri-fold leather wallet. I wear a business suit all day long. With the IWB holster I am able to take my suit jacket off and have my dress shirt tucked in over the holster and no one knows I'm carrying.
I have practiced and continue to practice drawing from the different ways I have it concealed. I think that is very important is to know how to draw safely and speedy when needed.

If you read the description above you'll see he trades the larger semi autos out on different days so two guns, not three. I used to carry four knives. Now two if you count the blade on my multi-tool. I don't live his life, I don't know what he's dealing with or the risks he's faces. Maybe he's over the top or maybe it's all necessary. You'd have to live his life to know for sure.

  • @LinkHyrule03
    @LinkHyrule03 8 років тому

First, I'll post the more unique items in my EDC that I hope will give you some ideas:
    1) A compact from CoverGirl (mostly for the mirror inside)
    2) A flashdrive
    3) Kleenex ("disposable facial tissues" for those not familiar with the name)
    4) Paper, either a miniature pad of paper or 3x5 notecards
    5) Mechanical pencil
    6) Baby butt wipes in a Ziplock bag
    7) Mechanix Gloves
    8) Bandanna
    9) Earplugs
    10) GoPro camera (Hero 3) with spare batteries
Now for why I carry those:
    1) The mirror has many uses. It is very high quality but also not curved like many compact mirrors. Not only can you use it to look at yourself (as intended), but you can also use it to look around corners in a tactical situation to find the threat. Finally, the compact can also carry small things. I keep neosporin, bandaids, some electrical tape, and alcohol wipes in mine.
    2) A flashdrive is useful for me. If you don't routinely interact with computers and need to have storage on hand, then this might not be useful for you. I like keeping all my music and documents on hand with me. I keep my flashdrive with my keys.
    3) Kleenex is a must for carrying. I use this more than any other thing I carry, save for my phone.
    4) Paper is useful. I always have at least a 3x5 notecard on me, but I will also carry a miniature pad of paper frequently (it's about 2.5 inches by 4 inches). I mostly use them for shopping lists and writing down things I want / need to remember.
    5) I like mechanical pencils. I don't like that I can't erase mistakes with pen. The pencil is mostly useful in conjunction with paper.
    6) Baby butt wipes aren't only for babies and aren't only for butts.
    7) Mechanix gloves are awesome. I use them for lifting heavy things, touching dirty things, touching or moving things that could give splinters, and for providing thermal insulation during the winter.
    8) A bandanna is useful for me. I mostly use it as a sweatband if I am sweating. If I want to sleep somewhere I can also use it as a blindfold. It is useful for many other things. I'm surprised that Sootch hasn't covered the many uses of a bandanna on this channel. I should eventually look into getting a bandanna that isn't gang colors.
    9) Earplugs are easy to carry. Not only could you put them in if you knew you were going into a firefight (say you hear gunshots a bit away and have time), you can also use them to protect your hearing from loud road construction. I mostly just use them to block out sound when I want to sleep.
    10) Yes. I carry my GoPro everywhere with me (in my pocket, not on my face). Not only does it give me the ability to take good pictures and video when I want to, it also gives me a way to record something if anything bad happens (car accident, violent confrontation, interaction with police, etc). I personally think this one is really important.
Finally, the less interesting / unique things:
    1) Beretta Px4 sub
    2) Knife
    3) Multitool (along with the allen key that goes to my bicycle)
    4) Cell phone
    5) Fenix PD35 flashlight (1000 lumens)
    6) Spare magazine for handgun
    7) Mp3 player and earphones
    8) Wallet
    9) Keys
All this fits in or attached to 5.11 Taclite Pro pants. The only two things that are uncomfortable are the Gopro and the wallet, mostly because both of them are kinda fat. I keep all of this on me every day, save for the pad of paper (still have notecards, though). If, for some reason, I'm wearing a shirt that doesn't accommodate pencils, then I'll skip the pencil as well.

+Sean Straub If you're saying why do you need a gun? I'd have to ask why are you viewing this video much less commenting on it if not to cause someone heartburn. If you are asking why three? (which I thought might be a tad excessive myself but, as in all things, must be a personal choice) he said that he didn't carry them all simultaneously that they were "in the rotation" which you should have heard had you been paying attention to the video instead of preparing your scathing rhetoric.

I must say that I've made 3 recent purchases that have changed my world with EDC. 1 of which is a belt-pouch for carrying more crap lol Got this nifty belt pouch on Amazon for like $15-20. My friend Jenny who is much opposed to purses calls it my "Tactical Access Pocket", which I love. Biggest things that go in it are an extremely minimal amount of first-aid stuff, some Urban Prepper inspired things (like the EDC tin and "Mini Medi", since I'm always hurting myself somehow, I swear), and a battery charger pack for my phone that burns through battery super fast.
The other big two items are the Inova Micro-LED light (I have one in blue so it doesn't ruin my night vision in the dark) and a whistle I found at a local store, both of which are on my keyring with a Swiss Army Classic. I sometimes forget or can't carry a bigger flashlight, so that little inova light is nice so I always have a flashlight.

+Kevin Wintersteen It has nothing to do with where you live. You could live in the "nicest" place in the world and you still can't control everyone around you and what someone might do. That's why things like gun laws don't work because criminals or people with mental issues won't just obey the law when they've already made the decision to do whatever it is they will do and no amount of laws will stop them from doing it so why stop someone or question someone for wanting to be prepared just in case? Have you never heard the term "It's better to be safe than sorry"?

IN: For the past few months I've been carrying the Machine Era black aluminum wallet with 5 cards and cash, keys on a red Lucky Line flex-o-lock, aluminum AirKeys from the Keysmart website (surprising how much weight these save), a polished titanium HangKey pocket dangler from Cogent Industries and a Gerber Shard. Knives are a mix of Paramilitary 2, ZT0561 and a Spyderco Dice.
OUT: Obstructures titanium pry/open tool (fit and finish on the HangKey blows it away!) and also not as functional of a OPMT (for me) as the Shard. Prometheus EKO looks cool, I love the "DO NOT DUPLICATE" etching and the F&F are good, but again not as functional as the super cheap Gerber.
Considering the addition of a Olight S1 or a Foursevens Atom of some kind.

You may want to consider putting your car key on a quick detach thing instead attached to the key bar all the time. The ignitions in vehicles, especially older ones, are designed to only have the car key and key fob for the key hanging out of it. All the extra weight from other keys, lights, etc. will wear the ignition switch out much faster than it would otherwise. plus you don't have that annoying banging from the keys swinging around into the steering column while your driving.

Great video Don! But one suggestion that I'd make is some sort of multitool! I personally always have one on me whenever possible. My EDC multi tool of choice is the Leatherman S2 Juice and it is just perfect! Has everything I need (knife, scissors, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, can/bottle opener) and nothing I don't. It's also small, light and compact too. I HIGHLY recommend everyone carry a multi tool of some sort on their person!

Not really much to add for me; thrunite tn12, SOG Flashback, keys, wallet, phone, no firearm for a little while, but I do always have my victorinox signature on me and man do I love it. You never realize how much a pen comes on handy until you carry one all the time. And hell, most of my friends use my flashlight and pen more than I do!

Apparently ankle holsters have gotten better over the years. Back in the 80s I tried an ankle holster for my PPK. It never felt comfortable. Worse, I got into an altercation with a perp and the fell out on the ground. Fortunately a state trooper friend grabbed it for me. That was last time I wore that setup.
Since then I've always stayed with OWB, IWB, or shoulder rigs, depending on the gun and/or clothing choice.

as always, great video. i have 2 items in my edc you might have but didn't list. 1) i always have a pen. 'Fisher 400B Space Bullet Space Pen - Matte Black' is how it's listed on Amazon (for like $22). this pen is compact with rounded corners so it won't poke a hole in your pocket as well as it will write upside down and even under water. it writes great too, awesome pen. 2) my second item is another pocket knife (small). 'Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD Pocket Knife (Black)' is how it's listed on Amazon (for like $11). i say a second pocket knife as this one is super small and thin but is very useful with it's scissors, small straight tip you can use as a screwdriver, tooth pick and tweezers in there too. i have on in the grip of my AR-15 too. now i do carry a normal sized pocket knife (kershaw) but i almost always have this little Victorinox and it's a great edc knife. anyway, just wanted to mention those small items for my 2 cents! thanks again Sootch, have a Merry Christmas and Happy and Safe New Year!

Great video with lots of useful gear. I would add a Multi-tool like a Leather Wave for normal day and a SOG EOD Powerplay that I customized by removing the C4 spike and web cutter and added the scissors and socket set adaptor to have the bits available for any task I may need to do. Might want to try the Desantis Magazine carriers I have 3 of the double models that allow me to carry my Glock 40/357Sig, Standard double stack for my SIg 226 or 229, and the one for single stack 45 acp 1911 mags. For winter carry you should also check out the Desantis NY undercover shoulder rigs I have them for my GLocks, Sigs and 1911s they are a great improvement over the Galco Miami Classic with the snaps that allow you to carry your extra mags vertically or horizontally.

My EDC changes, depending on what I'm doing. But I can sum it up in two categories.Minimum carry1. S&W M&P Shield in 9mm in a Bravo Concealment BCA Holster IWB w/8 round mag2. spare 8 rd mag on belt (Bravo Concealment), and 7 rd mag in pocket3. Black Dog Concealment flashlight holder, holding Stream Light ProTac 2L4. Cold Steel AK47 knife5. EDC Pouch containing bandaids, Leatherman Juice, Tylenol, tweezers, nail clippers, lighter, duck tape, cloth to clean glasses, in back pocket or cargo pocket6. Badge (Reserve Deputy)7. Keys containing 550 cord lanyard8. WalletOn Alert carry1. Shield goes to left ankle2. Ricci Ankle Medical pouch on right ankle, Rats Tourniquet, Israeli Bandage, gauze, gloves and spare mag for my Glock, (Still a work in progress)3. I dawn a SOE EDC Cobra Belt as an outer duty belt containing Glock 21 w/streamlight TLR HP and 2 spare mags all in Bravo Concealment holsters.4. High-Vis sash labeled SHERIFF in case on belt5. I will be adding more medical, handcuffs, and low profile radio pouch.6. Spare mags for Shield in pockets. The shield is for giving to my wife or friend if needed. 7. TDI Knife in NSR Tactical sheath, center line. 8. add Cold Steel knife, flash light, badge and all the other stuff from above as well. This rig is easily covered with a large shirt or jacket, sometimes even a sweeter vest for more dressy occasions. And comfortable enough to wear all day. But of course I am use to carrying a full police duty belt all the time too. Just thought I'd share. No truck guns or anything like that either. I don't see the point in that, if you go to your car, good luck getting back in, just take your pistol to the fight.

I carry a Mcusta MC-14D knife, Cocobolo grip with VG10 Damascus blade. Very sharp and beautiful. Then i have a Citizens stainless steel watch. Light wise I really love the J5 Tactical from SurvivalKit dot com. When on special you can get them for $12. Runs on a AA or a 3v 14500 and is super bright and small. My Carry is either Sig officers 1911 in stainless or a 9mm XD, with Everyday Carry holsters and two spare mags. Only Wilson Combat mags for the 1911 though, the rest are rubbish. Stay away from Kimber mags folks. The 1911 is a tad on the heavy side but very narrow, and my holster supports its well. I know there are a lot of 1911 haters out there, but I think 45acp is well suited for the task. The Everyday Carry holster is very similar to Crossbreed but half the price. They are custom made to order in Kentucky. Then I carry a small inexpensive Cabelas brand multitool. If I worked more with my hands I'd have a legit Leatherman, but what I have is small and light and was on clearance for $5. Then of course the other usual stuff, empty wallet, phone, etc. Wish I could carry at work or at least in my car, but the laws are what they are where I live.
For guys with 1911 Officer's that take 7 round flush mags, Wilson Combat makes a metal base plate for their 8 round magazines that works very well. Also gives for hand more to grip on.

    - Small Bic lighter (even though I don't smoke)
    - Bandanna (useful as a handkerchief, a doo-rag / sweat-band, bandage, or I could tie a bunch of small items I need to carry up in it. I could also cut a piece off, coat it with lip balm, and use it as tinder, if I need to start a fire).

I have found that IWB vs OWB in terms of speed of deployment is irrelevant.. I carry my weapon in the same location whether IWB or OWB and have complete muscle memory developed for gaining access to my firearm..
A suggestion if I may.. Having a trauma kit (or at least a tourniquet) and a fixed blade knife are important tools as well.
My EDC consists of a Springfield XDs .45 ACP 4.0 with CT Lasergrip, Coldsteel Code 4 pocket knife, 2 spare mags (7 rd) if OWB in Kydex mag carrier and 1 in my pocket if IWB, flashlight, Coldsteel Steel Tiger (Karambit) fixed blade, a 5.11 web belt, and a CAT tourniquet. My holsters of choice are the Crossbreed MiniTuck (IWB) and Crossbreed SnapSlide (OWB). Ammunition is Horniday Critical Defense. I try to apply the KISS method when choosing tools..

Just curious, you may have mentioned in the past, but what is your day job? For my work my work "uniform" is a tucked in button down dress shirt and some sort of dress slacks. While I carry a knife, flashlight every day, the only CCW I could figure out would be the ankle holster, as most waist carry seems to require an untucked shirt or jacket worn full time.
