As a forester I’m in poison oak all the time. One of the best methods to remove the oils is high alcohol Content hand sanitizer. Also Ivy X post exposure wipes, work really well for dogs, equipment like walking sticks, backpacks, phones, etc. and then obviously washing your clothes the wipes can also be used on your body to remove the oils.
I also was going to say for me finding oral medication for poison oak is what cleared it up for me. J had rashes for over a month and none of the cream was doing anything. Found an oral medication off Amazon and it cleared up in about a week.

Mesure the height of the van an write that on a sticker an stick it to the dash. That works for low clearances that are marked. If you mount a tall radio antenna on the front bumper an mark it with the van height, you can then pull up to any low clearances an see if you will fit. If you still have a radoshack around, they sell 102 inch steal whip antennas an 8 foot fiberglass ones that are good for this.
I am not trying to answer for her but being a person familiar with vehicle living I could answer on my own behalf. First off: It is not for everyone. As for living in the vehicle, really it’s our items that spend the most time actually “living” in the vehicle. It’s the down time/sleep time is when a person spends the most time in their unconverted vehicle. We tend to find things to do outside of the vehicle during the daytime hours like working 2 jobs and staying busy outdoors, relaxing on the beach, going to the library and studying, etc. Now unless someone sleeps in the daytime and works at night then it is a bit different of a lifestyle in the unconverted vehicle. It is definitely way to cramped up to actually “live” in something like a small car, etc so less time is spent in the unconverted vehicle. But once one gets into something bigger we then begin to spend more and more time in that larger vehicle, now actually “living” in the van/converted vehicle. I am sure you get it and how it works but some people don’t understand. It’s a process from vehicle to vehicle and we just learn to adapt. No matter what we go through the goal(s) that we achieve make all of what we go through or put ourselves through worth it. 🙌 😊
My fur daughter brought me poison oak not once but 3 summers in a row. I 1000% understand how you feel. Dr had to give me a medrol dose pack so my body would rid itself of the rashes more efficiently. Love you 2💖💙
Hi Nikki, you flip a coin in exactly the right way, whatever the face, I know right away if that is truly what I want to do,and if I find I don't mind the answer then I go with the result. There was a great comedian /comedy writer who once said, "Nothing planned, so nothing to go wrong!" Spike Milligan was his name.
I feel your pain! I am highly highly allergic to poison oak/ivy/sumac... My helpful tip of the day would be to carry vinegar. the second you think your about to break out, rinse with the vinegar. I keep a spray bottle handy so i can wipe my dog down... Love the videos! have a great day!
Your dog is amazing... very well behaved! Hope you get better with that poison oak situation, don't let it fester, I had a similar situation during a military exercise and it became a full on eczema problem that had to be dealt with medical intervention.
Love your rock flip thing... it's so healthy that you're able to listen to your gut reaction. Sometimes I fail to understand what I want; working on getting more in touch with my emotions...
Y’all are giving me travel ideas since you are up in my neck of the woods :-). I’m retired and waiting for my daughter to graduate college in June so I can load up my cat and go full nomad. I love, love, love that pup of yours. He is a four legged Dennis the Menace and cracks me up. Happy travels, girl and thanks for sharing.
Indeed!! You do such a great job with your video making! I often think of how you capture your short clips, adding dialogue and music. You have to always be on the ball, paying attention to capturing many details to make even mundane details and activities interesting!! (Helps that your dog is handsome - and you are gorgeous!!) Glad you are doing well!!!❤❤❤❤🐕👸
Reminds me…years ago we lived at a semi-rural location. Our cats occasionally challenged the local skunks. That was not pleasant. They hated being washed. That was a challenge in itself.
Hi Nikki- I get it, I have had it for three weeks at a time (a few times) . The best thing to do is exfoliate the areas really well with some sort of exfoliating loofa, scrub the crap out of it with soap. Once dry, put rubbing alcohol on it, it will dry it out. Also, keep using those wipes on Camper. The oils from poison oak etc are the worse and it will keep spreading unless you get them off. Also a dermatologist can get you cream prescriptions that will help get rid of it too. I live in Florida so I have plenty of experience with it if you have any questions!
7:16 seeing you eat on a dining table, what an improvement from prius. there is a saying here in swahili ' the big baobab tree started as a small plant like a spinach'. congrats , this is a big up for your new van! hmk
Very nice adventure. Awesome view point there. I'm sorry about your poison oak situation. Try to put some calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream to prevent the itch. Hope you feel better soon. Take care.
The problem with those compact reserve osmosis systems is that they are very bad with the first bit of water that comes out. So you can either drink poorly filtered water, or dump/waste the first 5 second of water. Buy a separate water quality meter if you don't believe me, because the one included with those RO systems are known to fudge the numbers to hide this problem. You need to wait for the next generation of compact RO systems which may (hopefully) fix this known issue.

Oregon just changed from 8 hours to 12 hours on rest stops. I've been constantly harassed by ODOT for parking multiple days but I have no where else to go and I'm homeless living in my car. I don't bother anyone else and keep to myself. It's been very hard and it not like how Van Lifers make it seem. It is very dehumanizing to be in this position.

I would worry about things like this myself. I ended up just buying a small cheap condo then moved up to a mid sized 2 bed 2 bath. Myrtle Beach has a studio for sale for 89K right now with $250 a month condo fees. Cleveland, Indianapolis have even cheaper condo's. If you can work at an Amazon or a place where they'll let you live in your car in the parking lot for a couple years... That's what I'd do now. Maybe get a planet fitness membership for showers and such. Libraries always have free internet now. If I could go back in time to my twenties I'd have joined the Air Force and saved my pennies for eight years. Lot of people though, seems they've spent $20 before they've even made $5. Young women are the worst... But, a man usually pays for them eventually...

So glad to see you have a security camera! I would use it every time I left especially when leaving Camper in the van. :) Hope your poison oak gets better. I have had to get shots before because I’m so allergic. Best of luck.

Another think with skunk smell use milk for tomato juice works great ! Takes the smell out especially a milk bath . Have fun !
Aww Nikki, sorry to hear about the poison oak infestation, that's no fun. 😢 Glad you and Camper were still able to get in a bike ride in the mountains AND make it to the coast tho!⛰🏖 Such amazing views! Hopefully the poison oak problem is improving and/or you've figured out the source, I know that is painful. 😭Thanks for sharing!🚵♀🐕🌊🏖
You guys are awesome 😎 I love that rest stop! Been there many times in my travels 😁 Hope you and Camper get better soon😊 Enjoy the coast, I love it here😊
Nikki I love your videos. I am retired and over 65. I love the idea of living in a van but hey I just go on adventures with you. My husband and I do a few road trips and he is a more outdoorsy person than I am but I do love nature. I just like to limit my time in it haha. Anyway, you should do an ebook on safe places to stay when doing van life and the restaurants that you have discovered on your travels as a guide book especially for the ladies living the van life. With the cost of housing and not wanting stressful jobs I notice more people are on the road living and enjoying life.
Hi Nikki you make Awesome and Amazing breakfast and I know about poison oak had it on my wrists both sides it hurts for 2 week just try to keep it way from wrists just a tip😊
Another great video and the fact you do this full time is just awesome! I'm sure there are a few draw backs but nothing can compare to all the Beautiful places you visit! And Camper is such a great pup 😊
Girl it seems like things just keep going wrong, Camper getting skunked, poison oak in the van... plus you've been crazy busy what with the race and then Moab- hopefully now you can take a few weeks for yourself and chill!!😎 Always enjoy watching your adventures!!! Much love from Washington state!💚
I drove truck for 20 years and rest stops scared the heck out of me. I never got rest at a rest stop in California. Good luck with that plan. Stay safe.
For poison oak and ivy, use a grease cutting soap like Dawn dishwashing soap, mechanics orange hand soap and or Lava bar soap + a couple good wash cloths. Wash cloths work the best at getting urushiol oil off your skin. Put the used wash cloths in a zip lock for the laundry at a later time. ua-cam.com/video/4oyoDRHpQK0/v-deo.html
Poison oak. Sumac. And Ivy terrible. Takes me 6 weeks to recover and washing everything I may have touched with Poison on it. 😢. Thank you for sharing your adventures. Hope your skin heals super fast.
The video today was really awesome. Such beautiful scenery. And a place you can visit the mountains and the coast in one day. I'm impressed that you stop during a climb to get passing shots. Such dedication. Not sure I'd be willing to do that for fear of losing momentum! LOL
Oh Nikki you poor thing that poison oak looks really sore, hope you are starting to feel better and winning the battle with it. I really appreciate what you do to make these videos, going uphill on a bike, holding a camera would have been tiring enough, but stopping on a hill to collect the camera and then restarting without the momentum that you had - wow, thank you. Hope you and Camper have a great week x
Hey Nikki 👋, poison oak, no fun . Have been there and know what you're going through. Great video and some good views. Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend ahead. 👋
So Nikki I looked up this and this is what I came up with for getting the smell off of camper ¼ cup of baking soda. 1-2 teaspoons of mild dishwashing detergent like Ivory Snow. 1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide solution. Mix in a bucket and use immediately. Work the foaming mixture well into the coat. Leave on for five minutes. Rinse with warm water. Follow with dog shampoo if desired. Good luck. Ok 👌🏼 🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out
So sorry to hear about the poison oak. I am also going through the same thing here, which started about 4 days ago. Sadly my adventure in getting it was just doing yard work. Just one of the hazards of living in the south. I always just use strong rubbing alcohol, anti-itch lotion, and bandages for the worst spots. Hope it passes for you soon and wishing happy trails for you.
Re skunk smell rub blue dawn dish detergent on kamper while he is dry let soak for a while then wash him as per your usual method should help with the smell
Marie’s poison oak soap 🧼 will get rid of the poison oak. Try to avoid hot or warm water after exposure. Like warm if you have to. Encourage your dog to rinse of in cold water when you believe he has been exposed to poison oak. Jumping in the ocean, lake, river or any cold water to rinse after exposure can result in no infection. I’ve lived around it most my life. Helpful tip lather up whith the soap and let it dry before rinsing.
Try washing Camper tomatoes. People I know who have dealt with skunking say it works. To treat P-Oak try calamine the pink stuff also oatmeal based products can help with itching.
I live 3 blocks from the dizzy den, if you're through Philomath later in the day, across the street is Dirt Road Brewing, good beer and some good food options.
Been a fan of yours praying for you lm originally from north Caldwell new jersey. No living in bay city mich. Have really enjoyed you and camper. On your travels. You are blessed
I was just in Newport two weeks ago exploring myself. The Newport Brewery is a must stop next time your there. The food and brews were great! We stayed in our RTT at the Beachside State Recreation Campground near there.
Best thing for skunk stink is mix a third joy dish soap ,baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Makes a paste coat dog completely then s rub off usually only takes one time ,sometimes 2 depending on h9w direct a hit dog took
Thanks Nikki for taking this 75 year old sick old lady along on your adventure. This video was especially great!!

Oh how i miss oregon it'll be july before i get to visit again. Thank you Nikki for showing some of my old stomping grounds again.
Girl it seems like things just keep going wrong, Camper getting skunked, poison oak in the van... plus you've been crazy busy what with the race and then Moab- hopefully now you can take a few weeks for yourself and chill!!😎 Always enjoy watching your adventures!!! Much love from Washington state!💚
She has been a busy bee since before getting the van. I agree with her taking a chill pill lol. Also a viewer from Washington state
I drove truck for 20 years and rest stops scared the heck out of me. I never got rest at a rest stop in California. Good luck with that plan. Stay safe.
camper be like, "you have an egg sammich, but I don't have an egg sammich"
Bathe in baking soda 1/3 c peroxide 3 large containers tsp dawn. Lather up and leave on dog for 5 min….it really works for skunks

Poison oak.
LOL
Thanks Nikki for taking us along in all your lovely journeys you are living my dream life. ❤from Australia
Good luck. Ok 👌🏼 🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out
While you are in that aera you should stop in at Treehouse Point in Fall City, Washington and check it out. You would love it!!
Keep safe & Happy travels,Nikki & Camper...
So dang proud of Camper minding so well off leash! What a good boy. Dawn dish soap on the poison oak btw
Aww love the coast! Hope that oak gets better. Have family in both Eugene and Creswell(super small town). But enjoy trips to the coast when I’m there.
Re skunk smell rub blue dawn dish detergent on kamper while he is dry let soak for a while then wash him as per your usual method should help with the smell
Use (Dessert Essence) Tea Tree Oil or Ivarest to make the itching stop.
Hello
I love watching your videos, they are very entertaining and I use them to learn English. Greetings to you and Camper from Spain!
I live 3 blocks from the dizzy den, if you're through Philomath later in the day, across the street is Dirt Road Brewing, good beer and some good food options.
Camper is awesome! Happy travels
Wow is it breathtaking, all the scenery
