Excellent video, it discribes the trade almost to a tea! Only thing I would ad is that if you are afraid of a little or sometimes alot of sweat, plumbing might not be for you! Thanks Roger.
My dad wanted me to pick up a trade. As i go through college to get my degree, I'm working in HVAC, specifically refrigeration. In case my career choice doesn't work out, I'll be able to fall back to that. Some of these states are only populated because of AC
Another one is if you're not ready for confrontation. There will be times where you're going to have to do something to get the job done that they're not going to like.
Reason number 14: You don’t know how or care to TEACH the trade to an apprentice. I been there, some plumbers/companies just care about their earnings and don’t care to hire a willing helper to teach them the trade.
Lol or if your like me make the apprentice do the work to “learn” lol sorry I’ve “done this before you need to learn this” if o ya they new I was lazy and didn’t want to do it and used that as a “learning tool” of course I stepped in to stop them from hurting themselves or causing major damage
Thanks Roger. You're the best. I manage a call center for 3 plumbing companies and have all new employees. We need some plumbing terminology and basic plumbing for new call taker familiarity videos. Is there something you could refer me to?? I'm in a strange situation as my team is all in other countries and therefore even more unfamiliar.
Hey Roger, I appreciate what you do. I know i will never be a plumber but I will always be subscribed to your channel! You make incredibly entertaining videos, have you seen those chinese videos where they clean incredibly dirty pipes/drains? They get literally millions of views and im curious if youd ever hop on that trend , maybe an alternate channel / vertical source of income anyways, much love!
VIDEO IDEA AND QUESTION: Is it unnecessary to clean the water line in a refrigerator, or should it be part of regular maintenance?Alot of DIYers have tons to say on it. As a homeowner its concerning.
Discomforts in any tradesman is probably one of the top killers of the career in it. From the outside doesn't look bad.......I've noticed the simpleness of a kid who never complains about being uncomfortable "Its do damn hot" "its so damn hot" "Im wet" "my hands hurt." Seems like these are the guys who stick around. But, only a physco likes dirty hands! The dirt between the fingers is like sand in the teeth.... BLAH!~!! This is a great video if you're considering almost any trade. If you cant handle a little discomfort, you should probably look else where.
I don't want to be a plumber but I would love something in my pipes that prevent them from clogging Example a permanent installed hydro jetter installed in the main and the sewer line that would be perfect It would break up debris before it gets clogged
Are you throwing anything down that shouldn't go down the drain? How old is your house? You could have old cast iron pipes that may need to be replaced...a permentantly installed hydro jetter would be nice...if its possible..there might be easier options to fix that problem.
Hi Rodger, I'm currently a college student right now, but I have worked construction and for a general repairman for the last 2 summers. I have looked into the demand for plumbers in the future, would you think being a plumber would be a good career choice?
Everyone poops, long answer, you can do new construction( residential and commercial) Renovations, maintenance and service on top of side jobs (most people don’t want to touch plumbing even though it’s still easy most of the time) and if your good you can stick to heating/cooling side of plumbing and never touch sewage
Roger. Urgent. my NEW company fired 5 guys in 3 days at least 1 a day. INSANE. (I survived) should i look for a new company after only a week its day four of meeting new people 4am in the morning. The environment is toxic those guys were good plumbers. I got other offers for the same $$. Wait longer and see how things play out ? Or finish my week, and make a phone call tomorrow on friday after work to and take up a "friendlier" offer.
@@RogerWakefield they were just asking what time the day was over the forman asked who was speaking about the job. This guy said me i was...well the forman said get your shit and go home. People getting let go for asking questions about the job shit like that
These guys knew their shit but the forman had no patience for small talk . Like im allowed to speak while i work especially if im getting shit done. Long story short im working somewhere else monday. @@RogerWakefield Thanks for the reply Roger! I've been a pharmacist for 4 years, paramedic for 7 years, 35 years old. Going to pursue a plumbing apprenticeship in Dallas this year. Thanks for all the great info you put out!
Plumbing is a important trade but not king by a long shot. Hvac god right here kid you not I can repair any plumbing issues, probably not your guy for new install but if there is existing plumbing easy fix. Hvac we do electrical plumbing and refrigeration. Doubt many guys can figure out the hvac stuff just saying. Maybe residential but definitely not commercial. No plunger for me
Plumbing has helped me with being more patient…..it has taken 10 years and a lot of fixed van doors….but I’m getting there. Best part though is using something unexpected off the van to fix something unexpected on the job. Big dick energy.
I have to disagree. We have a lake lot that we put 200 amp utility on. but no water. We can fill a 300 gallon tote and gravity feed the water to the motorhome or go fill up the tank on the motorhome. One company offered to dig a well for 8k dollars but if they do there work and find no water we still have to pay the 8k. Next company is 12K for a well and it is guaranteed to find water. WOW. I can use electricity and use a pump to transfer from a tote for water in our motorhome. Pleas respond

As a master electrician, I have a lot of respect for plumbers who know their trade. Excellent video.
Many thanks
No video of yours has made me laugh this much. 3 weeks into my plumbing apprenticeship at a commercial site in Santa Monica. Love it.
That is awesome!

I’m going to have to go ahead and cut a 3x3 foot hole into your ceiling and btw I don’t do drywall
Always fun telling people you need to cut holes especially through decorative wall paper.
I'm definitely too routine, I'm not enough of a people person and don't have the therapist aspect either.
I'll stick to twisting wrench at a dealer.
To each their own
Your a badass. On my 3rd year and have always watched you videos. Plumbing Changed My Life.
Almost got my license! It’s tough work but only kings do tough work!
Try being a NYC plumber for 35 plus years LOL- seen some crazy sheot and usually fixing other peoples screwed up messes. Not always fun-
Plumbers definitely king of the trades

You can easily chase off people who would end up being rockstar plumbers if you don’t give them good direction early on.
If you cannot sleep because you charge a customer their months salary, for a 30 min repair. Plumbing may not be for you.
ooooo that's a good one!
If it costs you a months salary to pay for something I can do in 30 minutes, homeownership may not be for you.

Most GC don’t know anything
You wish, I think hvac is probably top because the ducting dictates where the pipes can go, sparkies are last
Can you pour bleach down tub , sink , shower drain? Will it damage the pipes?
Where do people get the idea that bleach will help slow drains? Use vinegar. This information is older than your mother
Do you use the vinegar with the mother, or without?@@serpentinefire921
Hello, what is the best way to get into the plumber world. I have been thinking about getting into it for awhile.
Best thing is to go do new housing plumbing construction.
how safe is plumbing? far as the hazardous gases your around and rats you might encounter
Having video on Dude Wipes? Do you know if they break down like the other flushable wipes?
I have not tried those yet..
Do you need to look like Mario or Luigi to be a plumber? Roger sort of reminds me of them, lol but I love him
LOL, I don't mind getting wet . What I do mind is when someone uses the toilet when you ask for no-one to use a toilet.
That grinds my gears ⚙️
Can someone with mold and dust allergy do plumbing if they wear a mask?
Yes, I would say so. I don’t think I’ve ever dealt with mold…dust, that’s hard to get away from sometimes
