I opened a bottle of Octomore 14.1 a few months ago, my first Octomore ever. This whisky is on a league of its own! It’s so much more than just a lot of peat! Every single detail about it is of the highest possible quality! Funny that you chose to compare those two: just the other day I decided to open a bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan that’s been sitting on my shelf for a few years now, since the time it was sold for about $80 (it’s $130 now in Oregon) . Maybe it’s because I hadn’t had an Ardbeg in a while and I missed it, but right now I favor the Corryvreckan. Not the most fair comparison though, with Octomore being matured in ex-bourbon and Corryvreckan in French wine casks. Both fantastic whiskies! Looking forward to your Ardbeg flight. Cheers!
Surely there was peat coming up from those Glecairns! Unfortunately Ardbeg (which I love) special releases have not been all that specially at asked price. Octomores have been steadily great offerings….
I'd like to say that it was an interesting battle, but I feel no other peated whisky has a chance when Octomore is in the house. I prefer the 13.2 to the 13.1. I love Ardbeg too though did not have the Hypernova. Uigedail is the best IMO all round. Cheers!
I very recently did a 14 and 15 series vertical/horizontal (does that make it a hypotenuse tasting?) and the 14.3 won. I can’t rationalize $250 for a 5 year peated whisky though. That’s complete highway robbery. I enjoy an 8 year cask strength Bunna Staoisha just as much and for $65 a bottle. Bruichladdich has a problem and needs to help stop the madness. Ardbeg is complicit. MANY brands are.
I agree. 2025 is going to be an interesting year. It already has been and we are only a month into the new year. Your flight sounds like it was very expensive. Cheers!
I didn't think the Hypernova was worth anywhere near the $200 price tag. I could argue any .1 Octomore is worth the lower $200s lol. Bruichladdich has just been crushing Ardbeg with special releases since Glenmorangie took over. Cheers!
@whiskeyisajourney Yeah man, like I know $200+ is a lot. But I can't think of anything else to compete with it unless you're pulling out $500+ peated IB scotches.
Thanks!
Got you in for another one in January. Good luck!
Another great pairing. (I remember that 13.1 as being really strong ...) Cheers.
Thanks. 13.1 is a peat monster. Cheers!

Both of these bottles are good, but like I said in the video the Octomore is on a different level. Cheers!
Nice comparison, glad I passed on that Hypernova it had a subtle warning in the form of “hype” 😆
Haven’t had Octomore but my favorite Ardbeg is a Dark Cove I just opened last year and the Scorch LE which I thought was better then the CR
That's funny! It's still good, just doesn't compare to Octomore.
I didn't hear no gasp. And if there was one, your whisky, your whisky. Giddyup!
I had high hopes for this blend.

You are not the only one feeling like Ardbeg has lost a step with all the releases lately.

I'm partial to the 13.2 as well, but I needed the ex bourbon to compare to the ex bourbon Ardbeg.
I have a lot of the Octomores. 13.1 is one of my favorites! Ardbeg seem to be more hit or miss currently. I do like the matchup though!!
I wanted an ex bourbon and a heavily peated matchup. These 2 bottles fit the bill. Cheers!
Mr Fas! Will you do a cheesecake tutorial 😢 please 🙏
If I do one it will have to be on my other channel. I've been thinking of converting it over to a cooking/BBQ channel so that might be an option. 🤔
@@whiskeyisajourneywhat’s your other channel?!
@aprilanelson17 my original channel reviewing cameras. It's my name Peter Fasciano I haven't posted anything in 2 year

Octomore is the top peated bottle for me. I have only ever had the 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3, but it's on an entirely different level than other bottles.

Ardbeg can do no wrong IMO, best for the money is the Wee Beastie
I've been dipping into all my bottles of Ardbeg since this video. They are all good! I can't wait for the First Friday Flight Fight.
Thanks!
I have you down for 1 in January.. Best of luck John. Thanks again for the support!
