This is one version of the story. Storyline revolves around COVID. As others mentioned, the open scenes from each member are Easter eggs from past videos. The darkness closing in and surrounding them is COVID. There are also other Easter eggs about each member which follows. Pigeon, flash, banana, etc, which you picked up on. Then Miku transforms in to her name sake and becomes the light and gathers them as COVID starts to let up. But then COVID resurged and they are pulled by into the darkness. Cut to the real life scene, and their dark somber mood. Saiki leads them out of the of the dark times and Band-Maid makes the world a better place with their live on-line Okyuji's. Cut to the scenes where people are watching Band-Maid on their remote devices. Then the Sailor Moon scene, yes, Saiki is a fan, and they power up to battle COVID, the darkness surrounding the Earth. Band-Maid UNLEASH!!!!!ed their super powers and destroy the darkness. They then post up and are ready to UNLEASH!!!!! WORLD DOMINATION! PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘

I wrote this a while back. I see the meaning in the video a bit differently. The monster, the darkness, is despondency, despair, no dreams, no hope. In the first part they are all in this darkness except Miku who has her dream of the band but she needs the others. The pigeon flies and finds them and brings them out of the darkness into the light of a shared dream. That hope, that purpose gives them flight. This part is just them, personal. Then the COVID restrictions hit, and the lifting and then renewed restrictions crush out not just their hopes and dreams but the hopes and dreams of all, worldwide. Slowly they awaken and little by little, dan dan didi dan dan, they start to bring the light of hope back to themselves and through their online concerts bring it back to their fans. Now they smash this monster and with renewed hope set to bring light of joy back to the world.
Band Maid is tailor made to be an anime series project. Their brand transcends music. I’m not at all familiar with anime so definitely get insight from someone who knows. I do know that Saiki is as much a fan of Sailor Moon as she is the Hanshin Tigers. No doubt that influenced this video.
Band-Maid of late has this certain phenomenon thing going regarding their more progy-punk hard rock and Anime written tunes. These songs are hard, complex and will totally grow on you like a thousand pound R&R leech. The Maids in this format are relentless and powerful. Their new “AniMaid” (anime) Covid-fighting "Unleash!!!!!" MV and new battle gear is exciting, meaningful and classy! As Maidiacs report: Maid Music will continue to dominate the world until everyone succumbs in ecstasy to its brilliant and undeniable forces!!!!! 💥🎀💥 Thx, Dirt!
I believe this story/animation was inspired by the band's struggle during the COVID restrictions and battling to bring their music to the world regardless.
Just a FYI: The Warning also had a Webtoon gifted to them for their song Animosity. There is a video of the girls reacting to their first time viewing of it. You should check it out too.
Great reaction and this animation is just a fun gift for the fans, their label, Pony Canyon, has an in-house animation group that did this video. When "UNLEASH!!!!!" hit's 10M views, the label will pony up the money for "Band-Maid, the anime".

So fans spent ages replaying and discussing what Music video the animation was highlighting.Yes very Sailor Moon animation said to be Saiki's favourite anime. The story is very much Band Maid saving the World after lockdown and the Covid lockdown. Great fun and needless to say the music is just so full of ear worms to make the most jaded person hum away.
I LOVE this song. It shot up into the top 10 for me from almost the first listen. It just kicks your ass from the first to last note and tells an amazing story. They worked so hard through COVID and and brought us into their world. They fought to not only make new music and entertain us, they did it through the lens of caring about the fans and trying to motivate us in our own struggles during COVID. It was a pretty special thing to be apart of at the time. I've never been more dedicated to a band in my life and very few come in close to how much love they show to their fans.
regarding the "rapping" I would agree that this isn't, it's very rapid, syncopated vocals... if you want to hear her do something that sounds like actual rapping there is a section of Influencer. This is just a one off animation for this video. There are a ton of band maid easter eggs in it, you picked out the flask, but there are plenty of others. The locations theyre in, the other girls actions, etc. You are not the first to want more of this, I thought they captured the lovely maids in anime form quite well.
The attention to detail is really impressive. The etching on Miku's guitar is perfect, and the Rickenbacker is accurate right down to the "Made in the USA" sticker on the pick guard. _Everybody_ wants to know when the anime series comes out! If you're looking for a suggestion, how about all the callbacks at the beginning of this video? The first one is the *"Blooming"* music video. It's a very impressive song from start to finish, and one of the first of their videos I ever saw. Brilliantly scored and played!
