Whoa. I’ve listed to this on repeat. I see myself as being everything. This is the journey I need to take. I’m terrified of nothing and have been since a small child. Thanks Rupert
The trouble with the belief of a self (apart from God) is that evil (anti-God) forces can create religions that distract people from being here now, and focusing on what happens after this life. This creates a passivity re accepting the evil on Earth, because people think they will go to a better place afterward, instead of focusing on bringing Heaven down to Earth right now.
I don’t usually comment here unless someone asks a direct question, but for some reason, I started writing a reply to you. Usually that means I’m clarifying something for myself rather than the OP, so please, feel free to ignore this if it doesn’t resonate. Your beliefs are your business and I’m not here to convert anyone. (But I do like clarity.) While I appreciate your inclusivity, and I definitely appreciate that you find it unappealing and inaccurate to “push away” the person, the phrasing strikes me as a bit problematic. “Not just a person” implies that you are, at least a little bit, a person. Or personal. But that goes against your direct experience. I can’t find anything personal here. (Can you?) I sometimes find thoughts or sensations that imply I’m a person, but when I look, I don’t actually find the person they point to. Also, the word inclusivity suggests there is something other than me that I’m including, or that I’m not rejecting. But what would that be? As awareness-as wholeness/all-ness/boundless totality-I can find nothing but me. The closest I can come to finding something “other” is when I express myself as a limit, but of course any “other” in that instance is an illusion, as it’s just me/awareness. I agree that it is more accurate and natural to be the absence of rejection, as awareness is the absence of rejection. On a relative level, that looks like inclusion to me too. But in reality, there’s no division and therefore nothing outside of me I could reject or include. To say, “I am not a person,” doesn’t mean you have to reject the appearance/expression of the person or the world, it’s simply a recognition that you are the unchanging, impersonal totality in which the person/world appears and the reality out of which it is “made.” The statement isn’t a limit or exclusion, as the wholeness it points to is the all in all. I’m sure this will sound odd, but I’d like to thank you for your comment and for putting up with my reply (because it’s really not my place to say anything). Someone I know says something very similar to what you said here, and it always struck me as contradictory, but I never want to say anything to her, as she’s built her life (and career) around this belief. She’s not open to setting aside those beliefs (right now), but this has offered me the space to clarify something for myself. Talking through all this has unexpectedly been the answer to something semi-unrelated I didn’t realize I’d been grappling with in the background. You’ve unintentionally led me to notice a forgotten aspect of effortlessness in myself, and I appreciate that more than I can say.

People you’re wasting your time debating. People like Rupert can tell you the most profound, true and simple thing but the word is not the thing. Like what we call joy, the word joy is not joy itself (the feeling). One can spend a lifetime explaining and describing it to others, but if one doesn’t experience it first hand he could never know what joy is. Just keep an open mind but don’t believe anything just because you heard it. Inquire, meditate, find out on your own, before you even start talking about consciousness and experiences which doesn’t belong in thoughts and words.
I wonder, can BEING be improved? It may sound like a stupid question, but what if your being loves for example making music. Is the realer experience to sink into being without any sort of attachement like making music. Or is the realer the being that improves the things which its love?
“Is” is “Is”. So, what are all doing here, as separate individuals? Why are “we” not simply “existing” as a universal consciousness? Why the discreetness? “We” didn’t choose this. Why?
Like speech, any articulation appears unique and distinct but it’s origin is silence and it’s completion is silence, but silence remains underneath and untouched, it’s Eternal Essence containing all possible sounds. One articulation has the appearance of separateness and distinction but in essence is only silence. Similarly is the relationship of Existence (articulation) and Being (silence).
To experience. Being is curious, awareness is studying itself and the things around by being and knowing of its being. I like to think of it from a game design perspective. Universe refines itself and reflects on itself by placing itself in a limited body-mind of whatever creature, not just human (all life). Pay attentions to trees and squirrels playing around it. Do you still have that question? Why these trees are there and squirrels? Joy, right? Just being. That is the goal itself, at least from the perspective of the direct path, which to me exists solely to understand that universal truth. Now, what will you do once you know that? That is the question worth contemplating about

This is a religious belief and not a properly basic belief. By all experience we are persons and have a very real distinct consciousness with a separate will one from another. The reason we have persons in this universe is because the creator is personal and made us after his image. Consciousness is proof of personhood. I mean how could you be a person without consciousness? What would be the criteria for Rupert to be convinced that persons are real? Would they need to not have consciousness? I agree with a lot of what you say Rupert, and I can see the benefits of controlling the ego etc. But when one says there is no person, I can’t help but extend this to, you are not a son, brother, father, friend etc. But without these, and others, we start to lose a lot of the best things in life. I’m sort of reminded of the difference between oneness and duality. Looking at Jesus, one of the trinity godhead. He identified himself as the son, and a servant, and God as his father, and the agency of God as the Holy Spirit. God may indeed be one but love requires an object. In disregarding our person, do you think we may be missing an essential ‘expression’ of the whole truth?
Maybe the thing that captures the oneness we seek to define is ‘fellowship’. I note that early in the book of Genesis God is named as ‘Elohim’ (plural). And later the son Jesus, describes himself as being in us and in the father, and the father, and we being in him.could we be different instruments (maybe harps 🙂) playing the same concerto together.
One more point, a hundred billion Neurons make up our brain, and some how become one awareness. That oneness cannot simply be electricity or even one em field, it is a unity that transcends the physical instrumentality. The vast complexity has indeed become one unified mind!
You're intuition is correct! To deny you are a person is to deny common sense and your God given awareness. It's the opposite of enlightenment and I'd go as far to say it's pure delusion.
The purpose of “there is no person” is to remove the identification with form. There is relating, in each moment, but no relationships. Life is continuous energy transfer, but it is all one energy ultimately going nowhere getting nowhere for no purpose. The point here is not to deny that a form was born from another form (a son from a mother etc) or one relates to another, but that there is only one actor playing all these roles. If you are all that is, in a timeless house of mirrors, what cause can there be for suffering?
@@TheJooberjones I can understand that removing potential actors may remove potential problems and make us feel more secure, but if you reread your post through the prisms of love and beauty they basically appear to be absent. I was just listening to Jack Kornfield on being 'present', and he says that being fully present can only occur if it includes all our fears and vulnerabilities. If we can learn to accept that then we are fully present. By that principle, banning unpleasant aspects from our scope of acceptance would reduce our scope of victory order the world. One example of this occurred during Jesus's crucifixion. It was the general practice to offer those to be crucified, alcohol to dull he pain but Jesus refused it. It seems that (this mysterious) "your" imagined self also has a purpose....to survive and reproduce... @NOBODY HOME The brain is 100% made up of *_non conscious_* constituent parts... no atom or sub atomic particle is conscious. If not from its very own *_non conscious constituent parts,_* where does awareness "in the brain" come from??
But the word "that" points to that which is formless, without a name. Words are not a problem, just as long as you dont confuse them with the real thing" which is that which cannot be named but to which all words, all objects point towards to
Yes, absolutely. Our body is only a school uniform while here to learn and expand. Your spirit essence is everlasting because we all are an inseparable part of divine Source/God who nailed himself upon us by reincarnating in human form so we can grow, expand and experience our true Selves. There is no external deity; your kingdom and God reign WITHIN you ... and that's also where you must turn in prayer: WITHIN. You and your divine imagination are the creators of every single day in your life. So if you are not happy with your life circumstances, then there's nothing to change but your self concept. God gives you everything you focus on in thoughts, images and feelings; no matter if good or bad. So you better work on your mental diet and weed out all the negative thoughts. Substitute them with positive ones, and you will soon see how your life changes "miraculously" to the better. Everything you desire also desires you, and everything you truly want is already yours. 💖🙏🦋💫

There should therefore be no one - meaning no "you" or "your" to even imagine...or have any purpose to survive or reproduce either by that logic...
No?
@NOBODY HOME The brain is 100% made up of *_non conscious_* constituent parts... no atom or sub atomic particle is conscious.
If not from its very own *_non conscious constituent parts,_* where does awareness "in the brain" come from??
"That" is a word, just as "I" is a word. Words are impermanent appearances.
Who do they appear to?
But the word "that" points to that which is formless, without a name. Words are not a problem, just as long as you dont confuse them with the real thing" which is that which cannot be named but to which all words, all objects point towards to

Thank you for annihilating me???
God/pure awareness cannot be annihilated
@@Teller3448 What do you reference as "me"?
@@glynemartin There are no synonyms for 'me'....except to say that its the subject of all experience.
@@timeless4369 What makes awareness pure?
you are not nothin
This is hilarious
Beautiful 😘
I realized that the sun only exists because of my Light of awareness, because I exist, the sun is light. In other words my Light gives light to the sun, and contains it. Hence our being is the light of the world
That's powerful🥰
And beautiful🥰
Sounds like hell.
