Wire Wrapping Tutorial- Viking Knit Wire Wrapped Cabochon Pendant
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- I was recently requested to make a video on how to wire wrap a cabochon pendant with a viking weave.
This is a fun and delicate weave and I really like how it turned out!
The wire maintenance could get a little frustrating at times but I think the results are worth it!
Enjoy!

Do you think you will give this Viking Knit pattern a try?
Have a great week!! ☺️💜
I love the look of the Viking weave, as you said ... it has a light look to it. With my hands attempting to work that weave would be an exercise in dexterity and patience ...I'm not very good at either of those anymore. I'll just watch you if that's okay. I feel calmer that way.
I am going to try this x
How do you ocidizethe wire? Is it something you have to do?
@@lettykins1000 you don’t have to do it. Just personal preference. It ages at he metal. Here’s a video on how I do it…

Thank you for your videos. You are the first person to go slow enough and explain what you are doing. I am going to make one and also do a herringbone ring. I love 5hat you show and say what ga wire.
Thanks so much! 💜
Awsome, I have a bunch of large CABS. Can’t wait to try this. My hands are twisted from arthritis, I was glad to see you shared your difficulties and challenges. I will be less frustrated when I come across the same situations. Have a Blessed day. Christine.
Just take it slow and take breaks!
I have arthritis in my thumbs and it’s a drag!
Too bad the prehnite now has liver of sulfur in the fracture and in the pitted areas. Copper will patina on its own. It’s never worth it in my opinion to use liver of sulfur.
Beautiful!!!! You have the patience of a Saint for doing the edging. 🥰
Thank you! 😊
I absolutely love Viking knit. It's incredibly tedious, but makes gorgeous chain for chunky pendants.
I have done this before and I do think it's tedious, but the results is worth it. I have had many people ooo an aaah over it. Thanks for refresher!
I love the guitar pick idea.
Thanks 😊
Wow! Very intricate, delicate and tedious! A cacophony of wire work... You make it look simple! Very talented! Thanks again, see you next time! Have a wonderful week! 😁
Thanks so much for your kind comments! Have a great week! ☺️💜
Originally Maratime vessels used this weave system ( only out of rope) as a kind of anti shatter net guard system for jugs and bottles while they transported them overseas. I've since used this technique on large bottles and beer steins, but never experimented with it with copper wire. From what I've seen, be it cord or cable, it fabricates gorgeous patterns. Now I'm half way tempted to do a jeweled bottle cover out of 3 lay ( strand) copper cable and place cabs on the cork cap and outer section of the bottle as a Christmas gift.
That sounds really cool!!
Very interesting to hear how these weaves are incorporated elsewhere besides jewelry!
So beautiful! Excited to watch
Yay! Thank you!
Thank you , it’s beautiful, love it . ❤
I'm glad you like it! ☺️💜
😂 I tried this it’s the second stone I ever tried thanks for the great videos
You’re welcome 😊
I did and it´s one of my favorite ways to hold a cabochon. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 💜
Thank you for this very detailed video, and now I know the name of this technique.😊
Glad it was helpful! ☺️💜
This tutorial was very clean and Explended! !!👑👑🔔🔮
Glad you liked it! ☺️💜
Will definitely try! Thank you! Your instructions made it seem possible and very clear.
Wonderful! 💜
Yes love the Viking weave is very distracting and help a lot if you are stress because you concéntrate on what you are doing so you forget what you are stressing about🤭🤭🤭 thank you love it very much ♥️ 💐
So true! 💜
I have made bracelets with the Viking knit, single double and triple. I don't mind the tedium, it's calming. Funny thing is, I have a prenite stone I've been wanting to wrap. Thanks for the idea.
Wonderful!
I was just wondering how to turn this design into a bracelet 😂 I can’t visualize how to do so.
@@mysticalwonderland8479 probably could with some figuring things out!
I like it. I don’t like making it but love the results when it’s finished. 💚
I know right! ☺️
I personally love the look of double viking knit for chains. May have to try this with a cabachon.
I absolutely love the Viking weave, one of my favorite techniques. And I love the stone and the color is beautiful 😍
Thank you! ☺️💜
Happy Friday 🤍💐
Thanks for sharing ✨
Thanks for watching! 💜☺️
Stunning work
Many thanks! 💜
Thank you for sharing this video , now I can do my Viking weave hole lot better peace, luv, life, health and happiness ase!❤
Right on!
Beautiful. I will definitely try. Thank you for the tutorial. Well done.
Thank you! 😊
My cabochon is very small and I'm not very good at this yet, but I really appreciate the instructions - I gave this a go and, while not perfect, I'm very pleased with how my little pendant turned out. Thank you very much!
Wonderful! 🎉☺️
Great video ;) I have made many bracelets using this technique and I love it. Wire management can be tedious at the start but since it is a lot easier to hide your wire ends in a bracelet, working with shorter lengths is possible. When making a bracelet since you pull it through a draw plate to adjust the size, the neatness of the weave is not as demanding as wrapping a cabochon. I have also made some rivoli adjustable rings with this technique. The trick is to be patient when stitching, something I had to work on when I first started with this weave ;)
Definitely!! ☺️💜
You have easy to understand directions, and have BEAUTIFUL creations! I've been beading since 4/5/2005. I'm HAPPILY gravitating to another direction
Wonderful! You’ll have fun! 💜
I love the Viking stitch, even do it on long road trips. Can't wait to try it on a cab! Thank you so much for the tutorials.
You are so welcome! ☺️💜
Beautiful!! Love this pattern.
Thank you! 😊💜
Beautiful!!! Thank you for teaching us! ❤
You are so welcome! ☺️💜
This looks pretty challenging but I will give it a try at some point. I like that you can see the characteristics of the stone through the weave. I'm thinking a wooden dowel sawed in half lengthwise would make a good form for this or half round bail making pliers.
Great idea! ☺️💜
Yes, I love the fact that this weave really shows the cabochon off to full effect!🌹🌿🌼😊
Wow - it stunning & I'll definitely be trying this one out! Thanks so much for your lovely tutorials ❤🌼🌿🌹🦋
That’s awesome!
You’re so welcome! ☺️💜
❤ love the way you teach thank you.
So glad! ☺️💜
Beautiful work, ❤
I'm definitely going to try this weave. 😍 Thank you!

Beautiful pendant, love the Viking weave, but not confident enough to try it yet. 😁

Thanks! ☺️💜
That’s absolutely gorgeous. ❤ you videos. I’m almost ready to start since my arm is finally letting me use it again. Long story but mending finally. This is so pretty. Wow
Thank you! ☺️
Glad you are in the mend! 👍🏻
Gorgeous!!!

Beautiful!
Awesome.
I am going to try this Viking knit thanks for sharing
Awesome!
Never Have you tried but I want you something is nagging at me to get one is done so I think I’m gonna do one tomorrow. Thanks a lot.
Love your work
Thanks! ☺️💜
Love it thank you 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💖💖💖💖
I'm glad you like it ☺️☺️
Wow that's gorgeous 😍 ❤️
Thank you! 💜
Just a suggestion is to bring the wire up through the loop and then put your mandrel in and pull tight, could work😊
Cool! ☺️💜
I tried and failed, but I kept trying.😊 and still trying
You can do it! Keep practicing!

I would like to know if it’s better to wrap your bale before you start your Viking knit or can you just start wrapping your frame which is easier? Thank you. I love your tutorials.
Wow being new to this I just love it. Do you have a video on beginners lol. I look and say I can do that and FAIL. Thank you❤
I have lots of videos great for beginners.
Here’s a playlist I have or you can sift through my videos.

I will make some as soon as I get nice stones to work on! Loved this. One question. How did you make the bronze wire darker?
This is copper wire and I used liver of sulfur to oxidize it ☺️
This is beautiful! I watched this with no volume, what are you doing to the wire at the end to makr it look darker? Or is it just gaining a tarnish? It looks amazing!
Yes! Oxidation
Very cool! Do you also have a video for doing Rivolis like this or another wrap?
I have faceted gemstone videos.
That's frickin awesome thanks
😃🎉
Love it nice good job
Thank you! 😊
Super
Very nice
What happens if you run out of wire when your aaaaalllllmmmoooosssssttttt done? Can you add or do you have to (gulp) start over?
Uh oh! I don’t have a video for that but there some out to we’re with good tips!
How do we add weaving wire if we ran out?
Not sure. I haven’t had that problem yet. It’s easy to incorporate a new wire when you’re making a chain but I’m not sure with this style 😕
Can you do your weave in slow motion so us newbies can see how you did it, please?😅
Set your play back for a slower speed and see if that helps.
do you make these for sell? and would you trust this weave to hold a 2k$ gem or would it be to easy for the gem to work out? Love how your pendant turned out and im needing one for an opal Ive bought.
I feel it’s pretty sturdy
@@ZurickDesigns well been waiting for my silver wire to get here they lost the last order I sent in but they sent another order and it should be here monday so ill get to give this weave a try. Thanks for such a good video of how to make it.
@@Leafbinder oh man! At least they sent out another order. Have fun!
Won't the copper wire naturally get the patina?
To a degree yes
❤
Acaricia mucho el alambre y tarda demasiado en hacer el trabajo
Idk why but l cant do this knot
😕
I like making my weave but not row one.
Beatiful linvet you to islam ❤
Around 15:47 your really messy and too fast.
Ok
Do you have another tutorial that focuses just on that technique?
@@cherriesage1022 not yet
That's rude. Slow the video down if you're having trouble keeping up.
