😊😊😊😊 I'm SOOOOO SORRY ~~ as I was re-watching this for inspiration, I thought of a couple of more questions.... #1. Do you think this setting would work with round wire, & if so, what gauge do you think would be the best/ most sturdy [but not too "bulky/ chunky"]?? - I'm thinking that the minimum would be 20g AWG [0.80mm] if not thicker... & #2. IF I was to use round wire ~ 1st making the "peaks/valley's" or zigzag pattern; then "squishing"/squeezing the prongs together; & then hammer it [for reduction of any bulkiness, to add strength & to create a flattened surface (so that the prongs can butt up against the stone sim. to square wire] ~~ Do you think THIS approach might alot for utilizing a smaller gauge [i.e 22g] & also make it poss/more effective than just plain-Jane round wire? 🤗🤙🏻💜💙💜🤙😋 Anywhooo~~ Aloha & Mahalo Nui Loa for sharing your beautiful, unique, versatile, practical, innovative, etc, etc, etc designs & tutorials w/us!!
@@CASHayward I’ve seen round wire used before. It think 20 gauge would be fine from on the size stone. Your ideas sound great! Have fun! 🎉🎉🎉 Thanks for watching!! ☺️💜
This is a very clever way to make a bezel frame for a faceted stone with a pointed bottom. The point sits in the space and the light comes through for the shine. I really like this setting. Very smart. The set looks lovely. Can't wait to make one. Thank you, Melissa! You are such an artist. Interesting that you put them in the tumbler for an hour, stones and all. This is a great way to harden the wires, and answered my question about whether stones would get damaged in a tumbler - obviously not. Great bit of info!
Thank you for this tutorial. I needed to set a faceted stone and am a bit out of practice so I watched a few tutorials and this one was by far, the easiest to follow. I literally spent 8 hours trying to do it before watching. Then, I tried your technique and got it on the first try. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for this video! I know that a lot of jewelry makers will claim that the settings are nickel or lead-free, but I just don't trust that information. And practically no settings are made of stainless steel (or they're ugly-looking)! But I know that Beadalon sells stainless steel wiring, so it's perfect for me to make my own bezeled settings! Thank you so much for creating this alternative!!!
Not Bad, not bad at all!!! Infact, this is genius. I would through some solder on the prongs, just to stiffen them up. So funny, I have the same gems, size. Mine are Smokey Topaz, lol. I am SO DOING THIS! I Subscribe, twice👍 Phone and TV❤

OMG, Gurrll-ZZ--Thank U SO MUCH4 POSTING!! I had a huge amethyst I've been trying to figure out what to do with. I scaled up by using a foot--12 inches--of 18 gauge JEWELER'S BRASS for that golden look. It worked like a charm. I decided to put the bail on the length side so that my gem is wider than it is tall, and it looks great on the beaten-wire GF necklet I have for it.

So glad I found your video this afternoon! For the past few months I've been vexed with the smaller gems I have in my (ever growing) inventory but I think this solves my problem! I do have one question for you: are you using half hard or dead soft wire?
When you say you put them in the tumbler, for how long and what material are you using to polish? I really like the way that looked. Gorgeous settings by the way.
This is an excellent tutorial for those of us new to prong settings! I am still very much learning and this well-made video motivated me to try this setting. Success from first attempt helped me to continue practicing and now I can't stop making them-lol! Good job.
This video is great!!! I’m having a hard time finding that flat head plier u used. Can I find that at Home Depot? The one I got from Amazon is too thick. Thank you 🙏🏻
I love your tutorials. I wish we had easy access to materials here in the uk, everything is so expensive and hard to find! This is a lovely simple way to wrap a crystal or gem. So once finished would you work harden that in a tumbler l with shot to work harden and clean? I’ve found a wonderful little tool from a utuber called “the art of metalsmithing” she shows things she has found alternate uses for and one was a teeny tiny washing machine for makeup sponges or just a kids toy and remove the basket and add water and pure soap and turn it on then add a little larger shot to it and then the earrings or pendant and let it run, I was stunned how well it worked, and for what I do it’s great small and easy to store. I’ve avoided certain techniques and wire as I don’t always like the flattened metal look of work hardening with the hammer! So I’m curious what do you do once you have finished a make, do you clean or work harden or what do you do? 😊
@@ZurickDesignsyep the wee washing machine is AMAZING, I’ve only done sterling silver ear wires, my first go at these using half hard and dead soft sterling wire, I was worried as the wire was white, but once made and through the washing machine (lol) it was bright and shiny and hard, may have needed longer or I may need to gently hammer the eye but for a first go, it was great. I’m wary of things needing work hardended as I didn’t really have thr gear for it now I have a mini work around along side the hammer! I jus t need to find a decent source for getting wire in the uk that’s legit! I’ve had them for a year and they sit there as I’ve not figure out how yet! 😊😊
