Thanks, this video helped me! :) I'm using ver 3.1.1 with a BetaFPV PWM module, but even so, channel 5's input on the RX module definitely still needs to be remapped in order to get full resolution. The fact is that ELRS uses the channel 5 input for arming, ALWAYS! So ELRS treats channel 5 as a switch. This is the crucial take-away here. I chose to arm/disarm channel 3 (the throttle) on my radio, so I can afford to remap channel 5 on the receiver. It however now works for me. I can now have the left and right ailerons on different servos, using full range on all 5 channels of this receiver: Elevator: input 1, output 1 Rudder: input 2, output 2 Throttle: input 3, output 3 Left Ail: input 4, output 4 Right Ail: input 6 (!!!), output 5 So on the radio's mixer, I'm sending my Ailerons to the Radio output channels 4 and 6, which means they'll arrive at the receiver's input channels 4 and 6, and will the receiver will output them on ports 4 and 5. It's a hack, but it works.
Same here, I wish there was at least an accessible OpenTX dev board that allows people to create their own radios without having to buy a new radio to gut it for parts.
Would be great wouldn't it - I think the closest we can get (maybe) is trainer cable from a car radio into an ELRS radio and then to the car. Which is a very long-winded way of doing things, but better than nothing I guess
@@RCinginSC Hi mate, Have a look at what's going on with unlimited control and UHD FPV over the 4G and 5G network using Ras PI 4 mate.. Its absolutely insane, I believe that's the way its heading as we go forward. Ras PI 4 boards have gone from $20 to $300 in some places as people click onto this infinite RC link tech. For those of us into ground vehicles or boats and also cruising wings, It doesn't get any better🙂@CurryKitten - You could build one up easily with your skill set ...Give it a go!

Bravo thank you so much!!!! Spent the last 2 days fighting this - 8 ch full/100hz, thank you so much - full rez flaperons with ch 1/6. Fantastic. Also running elrs 3.3 on Frsky R9M/R9mini ( thx for that as well ). Hobbies are so relaxing lol! whew.
Glad it was helpful - there's been some useful changes since I made this though, so much better support for large amounts of PWM channels with full range on them
Liked, Subscribed and Thanked ! you just save my set up ! 5 channels is the bare minimum for a standard airplane using 1 servo per wing. Thank you so much, have a great day !
Since I was aware of the basic approach - using a kopilot its necessary - I skipped most of this. I hope you told viewers to drive the over the air ch5 high permanently. Otherwise some other issues with ELRS get wonky.
Learned a lot , but not sure if I understood it all considering you had pushed switch mode from 8 to 16 channel. Is there any way to run elrs with more than these 5 channels ? I need to add a camera gimbal which requires additional 2 channels beyond the usual 3 needed for a glider and 4th for the motor. But how would I get the 5 th and 6th channel needed for control of the camera gimbal pan and tilt ? Or is that what you meant that is still missing in the elrs receiver portfolio ?
It was missing, but watch a video I'm releasing on Thursday for some gear that might satisfy your requirements. Also, ELRS are bringing SBUS out in their latest release (which is in Release Candidate at the moment)
Hello! I have a LEFEI SN-L v2 flight controller which I access via sbus with ELRS with a Matek CFRS to SBUS converter. The problem that I have is that the flight modes are made with channel 5 of 3 positions and in ELRS, as you mention, there are only 2. The serious question is if the same thing that you explain for PWM works for CROSSFIRE? Thanks a lot
What ELRS aren't very good at is looking at older flight controllers, or protocols - so I don't think they'll ever have ch 5 as anything but a binary switch. ELRS was developed for latency over everything else, and the less full range channels they have the faster they can run. Crossfire was mainly developed towards long range, so aside form the fact it can speak SBUS (as well as CRSF) you've always had full range channels to do with as you please
I thought the telemetry ratio only has someting to do with how often a telemetey package is sent back to the TX? But appareantly it also changes the number of position that can be sent in a channel? Don’t really understand this🤔
I would guess this is down amount of data coming in/out and it having to reduce the amount of bits it can transfer per channel to keep up with the demands of the telemetry
Hi, I googled it without success, so I will try asking here: Is there any branch of ELRS with PWM outputs with the 0-100 % signal for DC motors? I would like to control motors by transistors directly connected to the RX outputs without ESCs or an FC.
This almost certainly doesn't exist. I did think you could actually drive a DC motor with a transistor via PWM. But I haven't read up in proper detail. Perhaps you need to stick an arduino in the middle to interpret the PWM signal and put out the necessary signal to your motor

No. If I use these in FPV, I use a camera that has it's own OSD with voltage on. There's discussion in ELRS about how this could be implemented in the current hardware, but what I'd expect we might eventually get is a PWM RX with a VBAT input so it is easily able to send back telemetry
Hello. I have same tx12 controller, and er5c receiver. Do i need external transmitter to connect er5c with tx12? Or it will work with internal transmitter and protocol crossfire?
If I have an ER8 receiver, can I set Ch5 to ch 9 in the ELRS WIFI and then set the mixer to Ch9 on the TX16, which is then set to ch5 on the RX? Google translates.
Yes. Since the time I made this video, ELRS is much better on PWM, so check out some of my later videos where I reassign channels and basically skip over channel 5. Ja. Seit ich dieses Video gemacht habe, ist ELRS bei PWM viel besser, also schauen Sie sich einige meiner späteren Videos an, in denen ich Kanäle neu zuordne und Kanal 5 im Grunde überspringe.
Since making this video - ERLS has developed more and you can pretty much get full range out of all channels, so it should be fine on SBUS as well. if you look up some videos I made from a few months ago flying my legacy autopilot in my mini talon, I used a mix of SBUS and PWM to fly
It's there, but probably not what you are expecting. The ER5A runs the DIY firmware, you'll see it if you join the wifi network that the RX will provide and look at the webpage at 10.0.0.1 where it tells you. The device category in the configurator is DIY 2.4 GHz and the device is DIY 2400 RX PWMP
@@CurryKitten Do you know if there is anything on the horizon to read battery volts for these recievers that may a use channel for telemetry like Graupner do?
There's discussion on this, I think it's likely be a pad you'd solder power onto rather than a channel. But there's nothing available (that I can see) right now
This wouldn't really be the sort of RX you'd connect to betaflight as it's main feature is that you can use PWM servos. That said, it can simply be connected to RX/TX/5V/GND and you can use it like a regular ELRS rx
