    Alarmo in HACS dose a lot of this for us , no yaml editing needed.

      I'll check it out. Sound interesting and will be a good point of comparison. Thanks for the tip

      Indeed. Alarmo has been around for a long time and it's perfect for the job. Lots of people using it, it's hard to believe you didn't know about it

      Yeah I've been really bad at checking out Custom Components. There's a mental block in my head with them not being "Native Home Assistant Integrations" but I realise many of them are built by the same people that build Native integrations.
      I need to get better at that.

      As soon as I realized you were not using Alarmo I had to stop watching. Looking forward to your Alarmo review

      Nice one! I've just now heard of Alarmo and I'll have to take a look

    Nice. Will be doing this in a couple of weeks time. Thanks.

      Best of luck! Seems like there might be some alternatives that I might need to check out and review too

    Very good video Stu. I'm setting this up with Alarmo. I'm looking for a wireless siren and keypad to add - any suggestions

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  3 місяці тому

      I'm yet to find a suitable wireless siren. I've got one left over from an older setup that was 433MHz and never worked properly on the system it was designed for.
      Keypad is an even more difficult one to determine.
      Personally, I'll probably end up using something like a dashboard on a wall-mounted tablet, or the HA-Switchplate with the keypad screen

    Nice video like always. Could the triggers in the alarm automations just be groups of the different sensors (motion sensor group and contact sensor group) so that there's no replication if you want to make any other automations?

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  8 місяців тому

      I initially thought about that but when you use a group as the trigger, it may complicate adding the data about what triggered the alarm, if that makes sense.
      I've been advised to check out the Custom Component "Alarmo" in HACS which apparently makes the whole process a lot easier.

    So have you considered doing a session on Battery back / UPS devices for HA and / or your WiFI router.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  9 місяців тому +1

      I've thought about it, but it's a bit..... basic?
      Not sure that's the right word.....
      The UPS powers my PoE Switch, and the UDM Pro Router, and the PoE switch powers my Home Assistant Yellow
      I'm not sure I'd be able to turn that into a full video.

      @@HiveMindAutomation Even that information is valuable to people wondering how they will put together something that will sustain them through power outages. Done on the Peninsula we have a power outage at least 1x a week as they much around with power upgrades and repairs.

      @@AndrewDanne I'll look into putting something together.
      Maybe I need to do a "Live Q&A Stream" or something sometime to answer some of these kinds of things that I'm not sure work as a full video.... for now I'll squeeze it into my "Quick Tips" series :D

    Nice but Useless.
    You need stand alone Alarm System. with backup battery Not depending on HA. at ALL.

    • @HiveMindAutomation
      @HiveMindAutomation  2 місяці тому

      You're missing some important info here:
      - My Home Assistant Yellow runs off PoE
      - My PoE switch is powered through a UPS/Battery Backup
      - My Zigbee Bridge is built into the HA Yellow, so also covered by the UPS
      While it's not entirely clear from your comment, I'm getting a vibe that you dislike Home Assistant for some reason, but you've not provided any real reasoning as to why you say "Not depending on HA at ALL"
      Sure, Standalone systems are great with hard-wired sensors etc.
      but, not everyone is in a position to spend thousands on installing a home alarm system that is going to be: - rigidly defined and impossible to customise
      - a complete pain to upgrade in the future (add sensors, integrate better "smarts" etc)
      - potentially in a home they rent
      I'm not saying this setup is for a High-security fortress.
      What it is is accessible to anyone with Home Assistant and a handful of sensors.
      Before writing off anyone else's setup as "useless", I suggest taking a second to consider use-cases that might not be the same as yours instead of alienating the thousands of people in the world that use Home Assistant as an Alarm System.

    nice. but sadly, most of this should be in home assistant already by default as a complete burglar alarm system (but of course it's not)

      Turns out there's some good custom components to handle this, I'll be following up soon.
