    When I was a kid, I was asked what song I'd want to be played at my wedding. I chose this one (based on it's first line), which probably explains why I never got married.

    • @bunniewilder2515
      @bunniewilder2515 6 років тому +5

      Bfdidc I grew up on this movie! I used to practice jumping shrubs with my sister while singing With Cat Like Tread. Doing the Kevin Kline squat with one leg crossed from A pardox, which I'm convinced only he can do.
      I grew up wanting my grandpa, who is a WWII vet a master sergeant, tellimg him I would not get married unlesshe sang the Major General tune. He's an amazing singer, I was like Grandpa! You got this! Repeat, I am the very model of- and he'd go an eye twitch followed by a glare and refused to sing it as he felt it was a misrepresentation for him to call himself a major general. I'd pout, beg, try to cute my way in to making him agree. Every time, he'd shut it down before it began. So I got mad and in a childish out burst I yelled at my grandpa "Fine! I'm never getting married!"
      He's in his 90's now, is blind, and is selectivity deaf. Iam glad I backed down on that dream as I don't need my grandpa beating the wedding guest with an umbrella.
      I am not married either. But I had my grandparents as a gold standard of what a marriage should be. My parents are divorced, that was ugly. My sisters are divorced, that got really messy. Now I just tell people I never got married to skip my first divorce.
      Mad respect that you wanted a song from this play/film at your wedding when you grew up. I feel ya'!

    This version definitely sounds time compressed. Yes I KNOW it's a fast and challenging song to sing, but I also know the sound/timbre of each of these performers voices, and they, especially Kevin Klein, are not that high/treble in pitch.
    One might go so far as to say that Gilbert & Sullivan, and not Lin Manuel Miranda, composed the first musical raps for stage presentation.

    I don't think W S would mind much ...there is a lot of cross-referencing of music in their other works and he/they wrote at a time when liberties were regularly taken in Opera e.g. "The Last Rose of Summer" in the lesson scene in The Barber of Seville etc
    As Ruddigore is less often heard than Pirates I think that it is good to have this chance to air one of its best numbers.
